Casa de las Anas made for the perfect stay upon my return to the Dominican Republic after 13 years. Nestled in the mountains of the province of Santiago Rodríguez, in a town called Monción, is this truly lovely home, perfect for a taste of authentic Dominican culture. Ana Julia, is truly the most hospitable, warm, thoughtful hostess you could imagine. She keeps the home clean & tidy, is an excellent cook (preparing whatever Dominican cuisine you might be in the mood for!), and assures that you feel comfortable and at home. I enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the roosters, listening to bachata and merengue from the radio at all hours of the day, relaxing in the patio hammocks, and cooling down from the humidity in the backyard wading pool. Monción is lovely; small & friendly, with a surprisingly happening night life! Walking distance from Casa de las Anas are a few bars, one featuring live merengue & bachata on Friday nights! The Rio Mao is nearby for a nice dip, and the city of Santiago is just a guagua (public bus) ride away; great for souvenir shopping and a taste of Dominican city life. I stayed at Casa de las Anas during hurricane season, and it is likely one of the best places to be when a storm hits the island. We were safe & dry, up on the mountain with no shortage of dominoes, music, Presidente (Dominican beer) and homemade sancocho (a delicious Caribbean stew)! I loved my stay & already planning my next trip back! Thank you Julia & family for such a wonderful time!

Good home cooked meals tailored to our dietary needs, quiet, comfortable clean rooms with mosquito netting made it easy to sleep. There’s a couple of sights to see but I enjoyed most getting to know the family and their friends in the town. We went out dancing in the town center two nights over the holidays which was a ton of fun.

My partner and I traveled to the Dominican Republic for the first time this year. Before going, we decided we wanted something away from the tourist crowds and beach scene. The Casa de las Anas is a simple, but extremely comfortable B & B with amazing food. In the area nearby many families still have subsistence gardens with yuca, bananas, yams, peanuts, corn, beans, squash and other fruits and vegetables and many medicinal and edible herbs growing too. Many families also raise chickens and other tasty birds like the guinea. The town is unbelievably safe (for us coming from Chicago and Mexico City) and one can easily walk out of town in any direction and enjoy stunning mountain scenery, including several shady cool spots to swim in the very clean river. We were the only tourists in town and people were friendly and helpful. I would recommend speaking some Spanish to most enjoy the region, but am certain that the people of Moncion will make you feel at home even if you don't speak the language.

my future wife and i spent a couple of nights last week. julia is a very good hostess.the food was very good.more that we could eat. This is not a 4 star hotel. The rooms was simple and basic. The reason to go is to experience the dominican culture, and to interact with the local towns people. we talked to a young mother that her son had clef lip (if i spelled that correctly) and she said that an american took a photo of her son and in a short time doctors notified her that they can do the operation for free for the child and she was so happy for that and to see another american.I would gladly give up a 4 star hotel to stay at casa De Les Anas. for the great experiences we had. Oh! of course we cannot forget the crazy roasters. We were laughing so hard that we dd not sleep.
