The hotel was nice itself, however it is more oriented to people with children, not for couples. There were many children attractions, but little animation for adults. The food was not bad, however it would be better for hotel to use cards with names in order to know what you are eating, since it was not clear from the meal appearance what is included in the meal (happily we were not allergic to anything). Sun beds at the beach were for extra charge. In addition, water in bottles was also extra charge even for all inclusive! Rooms were clean, ideal for couples, however bathrooms need a little bit renovation. Beach is lovely.
Overall, good hotel, however more oriented to families, but very calm and relaxing for couple stays as well. If you want something more luxurious, better choose something else.

The hotel is located on a nice, but quit area with a beautiful view at the beach and the sea. The food in the restaurant was very good and more than enough choice for everyone. All the hotelstaf was very kind, friendly and they work hard every day with a smile on their face. We want to give a special shoutout to the barstaff Gianni and Eleni. They made our stay in the hotel even more pleasant.

We also like to thank the hard working manager who was taking care for the guests having the best stay in the hotel.

We also have some minor points for improvement:

It would not be an unnecessary luxury if water were available 24 hours

The appearance of the hotel could use a bit of color and decoration. The bathroom is in need of some renovation. Here and there large mold spots.

We also wondered what inspired the architect of this hotel when he designed it. The logic of the building itself and the layout of the rooms were lacking.

Despite these areas for improvement, we enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Golden Coast resort. Special thanks to the amazing and greatl hotel staff!

Greetings from Christianne and Charlotte

Myself, my husband, mother and father in-law originally booked to stay at the 3* Planos Beach Hotel in Tsilivi but due to an error on the hotel's booking website we were transferred to one of the Planos' sister hotels, the Golden Coast Resort (GCR), about 4 miles away. Having read some reviews about the Planos, and after visiting the hotel before we were transferred, I was relieved that we'd been moved as there were some very unhappy people at the Planos (someone was complaining at reception while we were waiting for the taxi), the pool area looked cramped and people were rammed in like sardines in the only corner of the pool that appeared to have any sun. I don't think we'd have been very happy there; the compromise was the location of the Planos vs the quality of the GCR hotel. We were offered free transfers between the hotels whenever we wanted because of the error and we were delighted to have been allocated two VIP rooms that were next to each other with amazing sea views.

So, on to the Golden Coast review.........

Rooms
As previously mentioned, our third floor room was located above the restaurant and had THE most amazing sea view (the best view we've ever had and we've stayed in 5* hotels all over the world), it was very spacious, spotlessly clean and the beds were firm but comfortable. The air conditioning unit was brilliant and much needed in 90% humidity and 29 - 32c temperatures; the maids came in every day and a complete towel and sheet change was every couple of days. There was a kettle, mugs and two glasses but the coffee/sugar sachets weren't replaced every day (I think it was replenished once in 10 days). As the hotel had a number of self service coffee machines, I suspect the expectation is that guests get their own coffee, but we did miss not having this to hand as soon as we woke up in the morning before going down to breakfast - nothing is available at 7am. My other slight niggle was that whilst there were open fronted encased shelves for storage, there were no draws and only eight hangers in the wardrobe so my clothes/underwear/swimming togs were stacked in various cubby holes and my husband [very graciously] operated out of his suitcase.

Also, other than a hook in the shower, there was nowhere in the room to hang up a towel or anything else to dry. I absolutely agree that hanging towels over the balcony would definitely not be the done thing as it would look awful for such a high standard of room, so I improvised and used the chairs with pegs brought from home. It was very windy - you'll need pegs.

There's a tiny fridge in the room that was not stocked with anything on arrival or for the duration of the holiday. It's not big enough for a standard sized bottle of water but you can position it at an angle if you remove some of the shelves.

There was a separate loo and shower (no bidet). The shower was fabulous but you need to fold the shower mat by the door as the water spills over the threshold into the sink area.

Food
There's one main buffet style restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating on the same level as the serving area, with another level of indoor/outdoor seating on the next floor (it was a bit tricky having to ferry the food and drink up the stairs if there was no availability in the main area). I really liked the open plan kitchen/cooking area, the buffet style service was similar to others I've experienced with a wide variety of various foods served in bain marie's. I thought the food itself was lovely, but it was generally luke warm and the food wasn't labelled, so it was hit and miss with anything that wasn't obviously pasta, chicken or potatoes/french fries. Another guest had noticed that the bain marie's were plugged in but not switched on (?!)

Food Serving times:
Breakfast 08:00 - 10:00
Lunch 12:30 - 14:30
Dinner 19:00 - 21:00
Snacks at the bar 11:00 - 12:00
Ice Creams & Afternoon Tea at the bar 16:00 - 17:00

There was always a beautiful selection of cakes, yogurts, cereals, salads, cold meats, olive oil/vinaigrette, bread, etc. Interesting to note that there was also a microwave available for guests to use!

The kitchen is run like a military operation and I couldn't fault the service. As my father in-law has specific dietary requirements, the chef gave him a guided tour on what he could and couldn't eat at every service (handy to find out what was on offer) but the staff were very friendly and approachable if you asked about what was what.

Inevitably, whilst I can't knock the quality of the food at the hotel, it does get a bit 'samey, samey' so if you fancy a change of scenery and food, there's a lovely little traditional fish restaurant to the left of the hotel (about a 5 minute walk) and another larger one to the right (10 minute walk). Both places are very reasonably priced and offer all kinds of food, not just fish. Alternatively, if you don't mind a 15 - 20 minute walk, there's a great grill house called 'Crossroads' up by the main supermarket in Kipseli. I'll write a separate review about that, but it's a lovely place and the food was gorgeous.

Bar/Drinks
The all inclusive service runs from 11:00 to 23:00 from one bar that serves as a beach bar in the day and the main hotel bar at night. Due to the multi-functionality of the bar, all drinks are served in plastic glasses at all times. Local beers (not Mythos), spirits and white/rose wine are included but you can pay for imported spirits/beer (3 euro for Mythos, 5 euro for spirits).

The wine is surprisingly palatable and cocktails are available on the all inclusive. The local spirits aren't as strong as in the UK, but if you're partial to an afternoon cocktail or two, be thankful as you'd probably completely miss the dinner service if you have one too many!

Huge thanks go to the lovely bar staff - Nicholas, Xrusa and Panagiotis who worked so hard to make our stay enjoyable. They work so hard and were always very pleasant, courteous and helpful.

Our fellow hotel guests were mainly Eastern European and Russian, but they were also very pleasant and if they spoke English, would often say hello or good morning. Every other British guest we came across had been transferred from the Planos as well and for the most part were happy about that, although there were some who would have preferred easy access to the amenities in Tsilivi.

In 10 days we had 4 nights with entertainment. The South African Tenors (winners of Greek's version of BGT) were fabulous, so were a rock/pop duo, but the Greek Dancers were mediocre (I think we needed more cocktails to get into it) and there was a duo that was absolutely dire; I went to bed but could still hear the monotonous, flat droning from my room. I was glad the bar closed at 11pm.

Pool/Beach
There are plenty of sunbeds mainly located on a grassy area facing the sea, with a few on the sandy side of the beach (there's a 6 euro charge for some of those) and a few around the small pool. The sea is separated by a little man made 'peninsula' that creates a calm sandy(ish) lagoon to the right, ideal for children, but the left hand side has a rocky beach and it's rocky underfoot in the sea too, so you'll definitely need sea shoes. We bought some from the on site mini supermarket for 9 euros.

The hotel don't provide beach towels as standard but I think you can hire them (and bathrobes) for the duration of your stay for 5 euros, with a 1 euro charge to have them cleaned. There is a laundry service but it's outsourced and costs 8 euro per bag without being dried and 10 euro to be dried. I have no idea of how big a bag should be or how long it takes to come back. I rinsed things out and brought clothes pegs to secure stuff to the chairs on the terrace.

Location
There's a mini market at the hotel by reception but if you need anything other than kids stuff, water, beer, cider, sea shoes or fridge magnets you'll need to take a 15-20 minute walk up to the main supermarket at the crossroad for cigarettes/tobacco and everything else.

Other than the fish restaurants on either side of the hotel and the Grill House at the crossroad, there's nothing else. Ideal for a relaxing break for couples or a family with young children.

There's a free transfer service to the Planos at set times of the day (not on Saturday or Wednesday) and a taxi should cost 11 euro each way.

The reception staff are really helpful and friendly (special thanks to Sophia)!

Overall
We enjoyed our stay and we are very grateful for the upgraded hotel, but if we'd paid full price for our room and the upgraded hotel, I would have been disappointed (I think I'd be looking for compensation if we'd stayed at the Planos). The room would have cost around 240 euro in September, and 315 in July/August. Egypt, the Caribbean, Mexico or Cape Verde would have offered much more for that price. I feel bad for saying so after being allocated such wonderful rooms but I have to be honest. That's what Tripadvisor is all about.

This would have been a 5* review if the room was spot on and the food labelling/heat was sorted.

Located on the beach far from noise and busy streets. That is ok but on the other hand, the evenings are boring. Very small territory, no activities. Beach towels extra paid. They charge eur 1.00 per towel for washing! Wine dilluted with water does not show good attitude towards all inclussive guests:). Food is very average. The room with direct access to the pool was the compensation for other not possitive experiences. Wold not return to this hotel.

What a fantastic hotel. Situated right on the beach front this spacious hotel is perfect for a nice relaxing holiday whether you are by yourself or with the family. As soon as you arrive the receptionist is there to welcome you and help you check in to your room. All the staff are very helpful and are there for you if anything is wrong. The rooms are state of the art, nice and spacious and well cleaned every day. There is an amazing atmosphere around the hotel and if you are looking for a lovely getaway with plenty of sunshine this is the place for you.

Stayed in August as an all inclusive. Rooms were clean. Great selection of food, the beach was clean and water was clear. The staff were friendly and we had a great time and a special thank you to Yanis the barman down stairs that made our stay extra great. He had great advice and fantastic local knowledge and a happy person. Our favourite entertainment was the Greek musicians on Monday day with dancing. I cant fault our stay.
