2021 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
We’re family-owned and our passion shows. Cala Luna is one of the only hotels in Guanacaste, Costa Rica that remains green all year round. There are few barriers between us and nature. Open-plan spaces and secluded accommodations meld into the lush jungle that attracts more wildlife than anywhere else in the area – monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, birds, insects, and us. Within this natural retreat, we offer five-star barefoot luxury that’s open to everyone. We nourish our senses daily through delicious home-grown ingredients, gastronomic farm-to-table dinners, holistic wellness, spa therapies, and deep connection to Mother Earth. From dining with us at our homestead La Senda and walking the world’s largest labyrinth, to sipping cocktails on the beach as the sun slips over the edge of the ocean – you choose the memories to carry home. Welcome to an unforgettable experience.

This was a great place to stay just outside of Tamarindo for our family of five (3 teenagers.) We had a spacious 3BR suite for a reasonable price, and although we ate out, it was nice to have the kitchen for leftovers. The grounds are beautiful jungle (lots of bugs in this area in June, but hotel can't help that) with a lovely beach for walking nearby. It's a quick $5 taxi ride into Tamarindo which we did every day for beach time and every evening but one for dinner. The hotel restaurant is excellent - both for the included breakfast and the one dinner we had there. Our kids enjoyed the hotel cats, and we saw a few monkeys too. The grounds have 24/7 security and we felt very safe at all times. What really made our stay was Donovan at the front desk, who helped us with anything we needed. When our tour company was having problems getting us the required Covid test at a time that worked around our scheduled tours, he came through and got us one. When we wanted a last minute private boat tour to cap our trip, he arranged a great one. He got us taxis to and from town, dinner reservations and more, always with a smile. This service really lifted this place to 5 stars for us.

I have fallen in love with Cala Luna Boutique Hotel. From the first time I had a class on the grounds until I finally stayed the night - the feeling is so tranquil. The staff is amazing as are the grounds. The rooms are spacious and the showers/bathtubs are out of this world. When I entered my room - it smelled so fresh! I couldn't place the sent, but it made me feel good. The pool and the seating areas are amazing! The gift shop has local artists work which I purchased a few things. The breakfast was amazing! Thank you for an amazing stay! I will definitely be back!

Beautiful hotel with a great vibe. The rooms are super nice, big, modern yet thoughtfully decorated that you feel you're in the middle of the jungle and beach. The beach is only a short 3 minute walk, and it's a beautiful volcanic beach. Very private, and we got to see the most amazing sunset. The restaurant at the hotel had the most amazing cocktails and the food was delicious. We left the hotel feeling renewed and very at peace. Wonderful!!

We just returned home from our family trip to Costa Rica literally last night. We traveled with our teenage sons and daughter. Service, food, location ...ALL of it was wonderful! I’d return tomorrow if I could! Donnovan was so kind and patient at the front desk... always willing to help with anything I needed. The waiters working in the on site restaurant were fantastic- friendly and very service oriented. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful - it feels like you are tucked away in the jungle....and every morning you will see staff cleaning and taking care of the surroundings. I personally LOVED the beach. Yes, it is rocky, but very private. And the rocks make it even more picturesque. You can take a ten minute walk to Tamarindo beach and the views are stunning. Finally, my family loved the easy access into Tamarindo. We rented a golf cart and drove into town to look around and try some of the beach front restaurants. I would love to return someday!
