When we read the reviews for Pod Skalo B&B, we saw comments about earplugs being provided, which seemed a bit curious. Once we booked the rooms, we were told we were in luck because the annual national costume festival would be during our stay. The town swells to almost three times the population. Okay, the earplugs were in case the adjacent pub became too loud. It rained during the day and evening so the festival was significantly downsized (to our disappointment). There were no noise concerns and we really doubt it would be a problem during a warm summer evening.

We chose Pod Skalo because it was a short drive from Velika Planina. Pod Skalo had a comfortable, homey feel, starting with the friendly and helpful hosts. Rooms were not large, but they were clean and adequate for our needs. It definitely did not feel like a place offering ten rooms and a hostel—it was quiet and peaceful, and our hosts were attentive. The breakfast was very good and included locally sourced products. They will prepare eggs to your request. We appreciate the family history of Pod Skalo and really enjoyed our stay. We would not need to think twice about staying here again.

Gostilna Repnik was the restaurant they recommended for our anniversary dinner and their recommendation was excellent. The food and service were top notch. The restaurant was about one mile from the hotel.

To keep it short: It was just perfect!
Nice and clean room, just a few mins of walking to Kamnik, a cool Pub directly at the hostel,...
The hosts were super nice and helpful. We got some great tips what to do or where to hike.
The breakfast was outstanding! Fresh, lokal specialities, eggs, sausages...
It was our highlight on our two-week roadtrip through Slovenia. We would definitely recommend it. Thanks!

I booked rooms to be close to the Arboretum where we participated in an event of the Slovenian Association of Rose Breeders. We stayed two nights at this small hotel where the rooms we had, were small, but clean, (I would like to have some more hooks in the bathroom - you might think to put these on the doors- belive me it would be helpful for more comfort). The breakfast was OK, quite rich and varied with real chicken eggs not from the store ... very good coffee, everything was tasty. Too bad there is no restaurant there (instead of the bar).
At the reception we were kindly welcomed and we were provided with maps, touristic leaflets and a lot of valuable information about the region, restaurants, places and so on.
We will recommend this hotel.

I stayed here for 2 nights, in a double room. The room was small, but very clean, and the ensuite was bigger than most and clean. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The staff were very helpful, and provided far more information than the tourist office! Pod Skalo is a short walk from the bus station. My only negative would be the road noise, which can't be helped.

Our family of 11 adults traveled to Slovenia this Christmas to celebrate the holiday with our Slovenian cousins. We stayed at Pod Skalo on the suggestion of a cousin who lives in a nearby village. Pod Skalo far exceeded our expectations! The rooms were very clean (although may be considered small by US standards); the breakfasts were delicious (cereal, eggs, breads, yogurt, cheese, meats, local honey and jams); the hosts were so kind and helpful (even making "to go" breakfasts on the day of our departure). You can choose the type of room you want and if you want to have the breakfast option. The overall cost is very reasonable. We did not have lunch or dinner there, but it was an option (for an extra charge). This was our first stay in a hostel, but Pod Skalo was more of a B&B than a hostel (although it does not supply toiletries). The next door pub was warm and inviting.
We stayed here because of the close proximity to our family, but Kamnik would be a good location for a stay in Slovenia. Pod Skalo was a 5 minute walk from the town of Kamnik and a 25 minute drive to the capital of Ljubljana. It is within an hour of Slovenia's main attractions (the caves, Lake Bled, etc).
We will definitely stay here again and would recommend to others!

We stayed here for two nights when we arrived in Slovenia. Upon arrival the staff were very welcoming and gave us a lot of information about the area and where we would find restaurants in town. The facilities of Pod Skalo were excellent with a laundry room, games room and a common room to cook your own meals and watch tv. We really enjoyed the breakfasts, there was so much choice fruit, cereals, bread, cooked meat as well as the offer of cooked eggs cooked to order. Pod Skalo is in a good location just 5 minutes walk from the town and there is also the bar next door which was very popular and worth a visit.

I only needed one night in my own room. I needed an ensuite and private room as Im aady travelling alone. Bonus was it is spotless in all areas and a filling fabulous breakfast. The room is not air conditioned nor does it have a TV but there is a lounge area with a tv and a communal kitchen. I would stay again. Value for money, great location etc etc.

Staff very nice and helpfull
We were in a 10 beds room, but very calm and quiet. Rooms and bathrooms are modern and perfectly clean.
There is no kitchen but a fridge and a common room. There is also a pub just next to the hostel.
It is 5 minutes walk from the center and the bus station.

I had a great stay at this hostel, where I arrived by chance after another well rated B&B has refused to host us because it was 23:20, saying it was to late.
So we arrived here at Pod Skalo, where the owner open the hostel and got us accommodated in less than 15 minutes.
The room was great, warm, impeccable clean, and very comfortable. Because we had to leave early we haven't had any breakfast, they even let you pay less if you don't stay for breakfast.
I highly recommend this hostel.

I've had a wonderful time staying in Hostel Pod Skalo! The hostel is close to the city centre and the beautiful old house has a nice and rustic touch. The dorm room is quite spacious, with great beds and the toilets and bathrooms are the cleanest I've ever seen in a hostel! Breakfast was cheap, really fresh and there was a lot of choice.

In the area of Kamnik there are many options for hiking (visit Velika Planina), (mountain)biking or other outdoor activities. The friendly staff is happy to help and suggest the most amazing trails for you. They also mention you may always call them when you are in trouble, get lost, have problems with busses, etc. I felt very welcome during my stay and can highly recommend Pod Skalo!

Is there air conditioning and if no, are fans available? Thank you.
Answer from Vesna R
Kamnik, Slovenia3 contributions2 helpful votes
Unfortunately we don't have air conditioning, but we would seldom need it. The building is a renovated old house with thick walls and is located on the north side of a hill which provides enough shade in the summer months to keep the place cool. We can provide fans on request. Best regards
