Maybe the price will compel you, and that’s surely an OK thing. But I would never stay here by choice, and I’m sure that there are many more interesting places around here at a good daily rate - it’s Georgia, after all! This place is basically a Formule 1, and if you can live with that, then fine. But it really has nothing beyond hot water and a bed in a largish, echoing room. Verdict: if I wasn’t on a group tour, I surely wouldn’t be here!

Bagrati 1003 is a 3* hotel quite close to the city centre. Be reassured, not put off, by its unpretentious honesty. Although relatively basic, it’s rooms are quiet, shiny clean, effectively air conditioned and offer satisfactory WiFi. It doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t, which is a rare quality these days. So consider staying there and proving to yourself that you don’t always have to be a Luxe-Prince or Princess. It’s reasonably priced too, so go spend what you save on wearable trinkets. Then, if you can’t resist more selfies, you could try and appear to others to be more than you really are on your internet posts. Something that Bagrati 1013 at least doesn’t do. An honest choice.

This place certainly isn't 5-star, but it was clean and I got good nights' sleep, which is what matters, yes? My room was large — about forty square metres including the bathroom — and basic — no fancy mood lighting here! It was warm when I arrived but the newish individual air conditioning unit quickly brought the temperature down to a good level for sleep. Shower pressure was good, but there was no ventilation at all in the bathroom. Towels were a bit frayed, and some metal debris from the laundry was found attached to one — it looked like part of a metal-bristled brush. Power stays on when you leave the room, so you can charge devices and keep the room cool. Wifi was OK, though a little slow. Staff were helpful — one even translated the laundry list into English for me. The bed was comfortable, but the pillow was thin and lumpy (I had to bolster it with a second one from the second bed). Only one bed had a reading light. No bottles of drinking water were provided. Breakfast started at eight — no good if you want to make an early departure — and was a very basic spread. It was presented along a single long table, meaning we all had to queue. So if you're the sort of tourist who likes the end of the toilet paper rolls folded into little triangles, you might not enjoy this place. Otherwise it was quite adequate.

This is a difficult hotel to figure out. It feels as if it was built for some grand event and now just stands empty, although there were wedding photos being taken outside our large room. Good location near smarter part of town and restaurants. Breakfast was fairly basic but we managed to supplement it with supplies from nearby shops. Staff were helpful.
