The hotel is on a big piece of land, which includes several beaches and some small Islands that are connected like keys. The premices are very well maintained and you can sit around more lively or quieter places, just as you like it. The rooms are clean, everything in the bathrooms functions, and the beds are very comfortable. The sliding doors to the balcony have very good Sound protection so that you can sleep even when the music is a little bit louder outside. Hence, I can really recommend the hotel. Are there downsides? Yes, there are but a few: the table wine is very poor and the choice of food could have more variety. The most unpleasant element is, when you want to go for breakfast and your room is in such a location that you go through the foyer. There, people are waiting for you to sell tours to you that are fairly expensive; it is really unpleasant how aggressively they are in their sales strategies. While I can understand that they presumably work on the basis of a commission, it looks like it makes most people upset and deters them from the tours. You just do not want to go on a tour, for which the acquisition is already unpleasant. It would be much better for all parties involved if they sat behind a desk and let people approach them.

Stayed January 11-18 2020, Very clean hotel, a bit older but still very nice.

Food: Now food is a delicate subject as some will like while another will not, all for the same plate. For us food was great, we went to all the "a la carte" restaurants, and they were very good, buffet was varied and found the quality of the food was great. For the "a la carte", reserve immediately when you arrive after checking in if you want to be sure to have a spot. The snack bar could use a better variety, it is limited, but it is just a snack bar after all.

Room: We had a great spot in Villa 20, 2007, so you need to know that this resort is built on a mountain side, so that villa is down the hill near beach (not the main beach) and it is a very quiet spot, though the services in that area are a bit far, they have a shuttle though, but we liked it because it was a very quiet spot, we were 50' from the beach, 30' from the bar and pool, plus we had a view of the ocean and a very large balcony where we could chill out and, when it rained, play cribbage. So for us it was perfect, we had the A/C dripping but a quick call to the front desk and it took them about 40 minutes and all was fixed up and we never had any issue again with it, so service was outstanding to help us fix this small issue. Now if someone wants to be near the action, it would be better to be in the main building, but if you want to be quiet and relaxed, then this area (villa 20) is perfect, and you do have all the services right there, bar, light snack and short walk to snack bar that is on the lower level of the mountain.

Shows/Entertainment: We found the shows at night to be boring, nothing great, the only excitement that occurred during the shows was the circus one when they do the fire portion, for the rest, to us, was not worth going to, they really need to work on that, I have been to Bahia Principe many times in other resorts, and this one is not up to par for shows.
Proximity to town and main beach: What I really liked is how close to town the resort is located, they provide a shuttle to the Pueblo Principe, from there you can walk in town and be with the locals, some people like me, really enjoy this, some do not. All depends what you like, but if you want great deals on souvenirs, or local products that is the place to go, half price minimum from anything offered at the resort, you need to negotiate a bit though or go to the Super Mercado there the prices are labeled, best place to purchase rum. For the beach, it is small but very clean, there is a bar from the hotel and a local bar on it, a bit of seashells when you go in the water. But if you like a wide beach with turquoise water, you will not find it at this hotel. From the beach you can go on the small islands in a national park, t's free and a good place to have great views of the bay.

Finally, we had a great time, plenty of relaxation, great food, great location, great staff, and fun to be able to be with the local Dominican population (if you want to).

My fiancée spent the week over New Years 2019 into 2020 here. It was also my fiancée's birthday on December 30th. From the get-go, Bahia Principe put a nice sign on her door and a bottle of bubbly in the room to enjoy. Very nice touch!

Room: our room was facing the 'inside cove' as the other side of the building faced out over the beach / Samana town. It was beautiful, spacious, and modern.

Samana: we spent 2 hours in Samana town exploring on a rainy day. It is a 3 minute golf cart ride from the resort, it leaves every hour. We bought our local Dominican rum there and popped into a few shops.

Beach(es): there is the main beach accessible from a staircase or the main elevator. Very beautiful beach, with a bar, and daily activities. The secondary "beach" area is in the cove on the other side of the peninsula. We found this more secluded and enjoyable, quieter, still with access to 2 bars and the 'snack restaurant' down on that side.

Food: buffet was definitely the best option. While the a la cartes offer more relaxed experience of being able to sit and be served, the food is on par, if not slightly worst, than what is served at the themed buffet dinners!

Service: great, friendly staff all over. The Entertainment staff were engaging and high energy. Never any complaints.

Overall: amazing 5-star hotel for couples of all pedigrees. While still family friendly, I didn't think there was as much going on for the younger audiences compared to other chains I've been to.

We were so disappointed because we spent extra money on a suite. The location of the suite was horrible. Far from everything and had many stairs to get up and down on the hill. We had a stroller so it made it impossible. We had to wait 20 mins for a trolley to take us to the main pool or beach. The room was hot and had lots of mosquitoes. The AC only works if you leave your room key in it. My kids had 20 bites within minutes.

I asked for another room, inside the main building. The manage had a attitude with us. Ot was very hurtful they I had to have an argument to get relocated. The lobby has no AC so not only was it difficult communicating with them I was hot while doing so. They said didn’t have a suite in the main building so we took a basic room. No mosquitos in the new room but a leaking AC.

Our new room had a leak and every so often water dropped on us. The AC didn’t get cold at night due to their leaky AC system. Their restaurants are a joke. The buffet was better than any of their restaurants. There was no kids club offered. Food was beyond basic.

The hotel manager refused to refund us the difference from a suite to a basic room and minimized all my issues. The hotel manager said to email the management. I even purchased the room directly from the hotel site.

After the trip I emailed the Management it took them 3 weeks to respond. They said they won’t offer us a discount and to come back again. Ha ha.. I will never go back. They aren’t a good business and don’t do right by their customers.

Listen customer service is everything, and their service SUCKS. The only thing nice about the hotel was the location.

This hotel is not good for anyone who had mobility issues. No elevators in the villas, a few in the main building and no wheel chair accessible carts. The entire place is set up on steep hills that most people needed carts to go up to main building and down to the beach/villas. One of the a la carte restaurants is only accessible by going down a flight of stairs off of the pool area or by taking a very long steeply sloped road.

Was a nice hotel, there were obvious signs of water damage in places, most likely caused by the hurricanes. We had a jr. Suite that was called a "villa", again nice room, some water damage, no elevators. Was below a "cliff" so we had to either walk and take a ton of stairs or wait for a cart to take us to the main building where the buffet was located.

The beds were super hard. Felt like sleeping on the floor that had a thin foam to lay on. The rooms were cleaned daily if you wanted it and the maids were excellent. The air conditioning system was fantastic.

The a la carte restaurants were fantastic. I enjoyed every meal that I had and the buffet is always good and had variety. Their buffet themes were good. My favorite was breakfast they fry eggs for you or make omelette fresh for you. The hours they were opened though were odd and slightly inconvenient on occasions

Everyone was nice and accommodating there was a slight language barrier for us since I know the most basic of Spanish and a lot of the staff only knew the most basic of English. They all seem to understand French the best.

The excursions were decent but somewhat expensive. Might be a good idea to look around at local tours yourself than going through the hotel.

All together, was pretty satisfied with my stay. It was a good vacation. Probably would never stay in this particular resort again. But would stay in a related resort.

Hubby and I just needed to relax and this was the perfect place. Junior suite was gorgeous and the staff great. The Italian specialty restaurant was ordinary but the gourmet restaurant superb! The regular buffet was the best we've experienced in an all inclusive. Relax on the beach or by the pool is heavenly and strolls along the water peaceful. There's access to the public beach which is also beautiful. There's a little market there to browse. Be careful, some vendors are selling plastic for silver. Don't be afraid to haggle. If they won't let you put a match to the larimar it isn't real.

The hotel is in a beautiful location with gorgeous views from the top of a hill. One can look out to the ocean and over to the town across the narrow bay. There is a shuttle into town every hour but one can also walk there in less than 15 minutes. The entertainment staff is really nice and full of youthful energy and rhythm. Every night there is a different show, some better than others. The food is varied with a theme each night in the buffet, from which the is a lovely view of the ocean. There are two beaches, one which is longer and two smaller more intimate ones on the next inlet. The beaches are not the greatest but there is always space and a bar nearby plus plenty of shade. One disappointment was the specialty restaurants. the French one was not bad however the fish restaurant and the Italian one were not top notch. Overall we had a very nice time and given that we found a last minute deal it was great value for the money.

Perfect! My husband and I came down on February 25 with our niece and her boyfriend and we leave tomorrow. My husband and I have stayed at many all-inclusive throughout the Caribbean and South America and this is by far my favourite spot. We have stayed at Grand Baha’i Principes before and always enjoyed them but this is my favorite! It is quite small and we had a room on the second floor so we could easily get to the lobby buffet and the pool. The views from our balcony work gorgeous and there was never any trouble getting the chair either at the pool or the beach. The food at the buffet is always excellent and although I don’t usually stay up to watch the entertainment I did this time and it’s worth it-especially the circus night and the starz night. The animation team works very hard to make people feel welcome and included without being pushy –they were all amazing. We will definitely return to this beautiful resort and I think it will become our regular vacation destination!

Let me first start saying that most of the staff go out of their way to meet your needs. Having said that the hotel needs to be updated... The food and drinks were repetitive and needs variety. The reason why I waited until know to write a reviewed is because I wrote an email and I was waiting for an answer before posting this review. After having a few issues with the air conditioner and a toilet not working ( which could happened anywhere) I’m really upset with the service I got the night before I left. I was been picked up at 5 am and I went to the front desk to see if there was anything I need it to do. The person there said no just to check out in the morning. At that time I waited for 35 minutes to be taken back to my room. There was one of the front desk employees seating in one of the carts taking a break on his cellphone and I ask him how much longer do we have to wait.. he came back and told us I’m not a driver but get in let me take you and In Spanish he made a comment that people should learn to walk! I speak Spanish but I decided to ignore him.the next morning when we went to check out at 5am the same guy was there and as I was checking the bill I notice that there were charges that weren’t mine. I told them that I wasn’t going to pay for that, they said there was no one to talk to at that time and if I didn’t pay there were going to be charge for it. I repeated myself that I wasn’t going to pay and the guy from the night before told me that they will call security and NOT allowed me to leave the premises. At this point I saw his name tag. His name is Hector Salas. MR. Salas threatening behavior towards my husband and I was very scary. We paid and I told him to have the manager contact me and I’m still waiting for a phone call.I’m a member of the privilege club and and I was treated like a criminal. It only takes one person to ruined your vacations. Like I said before I’m still waiting for a response....

Been to many islands in the Caribbean, fell in love with this place 14 years ago. Have been returning every year for all these years and spend 4 weeks and would love to stay longer.
There is food for every taste buds
The beach leaves something to be desired but an allergy to sand fleas I do not take a chance. I have never heard anybody complain about them but the beach is small.. compared to other resorts.
But what makes up for that is the panoramic views and the friendliness of the staff.
We stay by the pool and always meet repeat visitors and have a ball.
It is like coming home to a family reunion.
Love the place!! Will be returning for more years to come.
