I was robbed in the middle of the night whilst sleeping and the robber used a knife to cut through the mosquito net. Stressful and life threatening. Manager finally recovered the phone after involvement with the police 6 months later. My phone was returned to the manager by the police, The manager still has my phone and has still not returned it despite constant dialogue. Even the owners have not returned my correspondence about the matter 9 months later. Be warned - make sure the security is in place on the island if you do stay there. It was not on the night of the robbery. Merioni adimaisau (the manager)- please send my phone back - please, pretty please....

We stayed here for a few days over Christmas at the end of 6 months in the Solomon Islands and it was delightful. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming and our accommodation was very clean, comfortable and the views were inspiring. The food was sumptuous and the walk around the island interesting. We enjoyed snorkelling from the jetty and viewing the many colourful fish, while the views from the lookout on the island walk were magnificent.

We stayed in Tavanipupu on May for 5 days, on the Royal Nima. We were meet at the Airport by the staff and we were welcomed on the island with a coconut drink and flowers. Situated in a lovely island with beautiful gardens, we were upgraded to the Royal Nima and it was true bonus. Well designed, with a natural air system, you really don't need air con. The outdoor shower, with hot water was a pleasure to use, when we get back from our snorkelling sessions. The reef is beautiful and full of wonderful fishes. It was a pleasure to snorkel there. The staff was attentive and nice, and care for the Nima twice a day. The food was good, though sometimes it could be more local (like fish...) . And the suplies were not so regular as they should be (no milk at breakfast for 2 days...) We arranged our stay through email with Mereone, the manager that we met in Honiara. The process was easy and accomodating to our demands (like paying there and in euros). Overall, a very good stay in Tavanipupi Resort. Maria and Carlos

Tavanipupu can only be described as sadly beautiful. Situated in a lovely location with immaculate gardens, the comfortable villas are well-spaced but starting to show their age. We stayed in the Royal Bungalow which was comfortable, except for the non-existent water pressure in both the inside & outside showers and lack of hot or even warm water at times. No toiletries were provided except a couple of small bars of soap. The body wash dispenser in the shower was either broken or empty. No tissues were in the room either. It was a new mosquito net however above the bed, which was prepared each night by the gracious housekeeping staff. Aerogard & bug spray were also available in the room, along with umbrellas for occasional rain. The Pros: - nice location, beautiful grounds, spacious villas - warm, gracious staff (longer serving staff members clearly well-trained, but newer staff unfortunately not well trained in hospitality under current manager) - great snorkelling along a nice house reef to the left of the royal bungalow jetty - lovely coral & fish galore - great snorkelling off the beach island (a coral cay) - a short boat ride away with the engaging Brian, the activities man - tasty food - but a little on the heavy side The Cons: - Villas (especially the bathrooms) and main dining & bar areas starting to really show their age - Poor management skills leading to many basic supplies running out or being unavailable - eg. the resort had run out of milk on our arrival (offered afternoon tea - oh sorry, we are out of milk; Weetbix & rice bubbles on the breakfast buffet but no milk; offered bacon & eggs for breakfast - oh sorry, we are out of bacon; etc.......) - Free wif-fi but only worked in the dining area - We did not receive any of the inclusions we were meant to get in our Hideaway Holidays packege (except for the massage given by one of the housekeeping ladies) - ie. no champagne on arrival - they had none; no breakfast in bed; no private beach picnic; no romantic dinner for 2. (We subsequently stayed in a far more remote resort in the Western Province, and they were fully stocked with everything & said lack of stock would only happen under poor management.) - No credit card facilities available to settle bar tab, beach trip etc on check-out - quite strange given that Tavanipupu is now owned by the Solomons Bank. - We got the distinct impression from long-serving staff that they are very saddened to see how run down the resort is becoming, and that they hold fears for their future employment. - All email communication with Tavanipupu management was very poor & almost barely literate. - Given the price of the accommodation, you could have been exceptionally disappointed by what was on offer at Tavanipupu, but really all we could do was laugh & go along for the ride & enjoy nature hahaha. As we were leaving, the manager Mereone arrived back on the island after an extended stay in Honiara with 2 of the bank managers, no doubt to discuss their asset. We would have loved to have taken the bankers aside and told them the real story of the resort from a customer perspective. Such a beautiful place with beautiful people - but such a shame to see it struggling under poor management. Tavanipupu resort desperately needs a more experienced manager to bring it back to a better standard in order to attract more clientele. There was only one other couple staying at the resort the entire time we were there. It has so much to offer, but is being let down :-(

On arrival at the jetty, my partner and I were warmly welcomed by the resort manager, Mereoni, who handed us flower garlands. We’d booked one of the 2 Lagoon View Deluxe Nimas. Our bungalow was very clean and spacious, with beautiful bright floral arrangements. Loved the outdoor shower! During our stay we had access to complimentary kayaks, SUP boards and snorkelling gear. On request, the staff can organise excursions to nearby islands as well. Calm turquoise waters make putting on fins and a mask to explore below the surface irresistible. The island’s encircled by an impressive coral reef that’s home to many tropical fish species. Parrotfish, clownfish, triggerfish, lionfish…..you name it we saw it! The restaurant menu is set each day, so whatever’s been freshly caught is what you’re served and it’s all delicious. My favourite dishes were the chilli crab, ceviche served in a coconut and lobster mornay. OMG, my mouth’s watering just writing about the food that we ate on Tavanipupu! The resort bar has most of the basics covered and we drank pre-dinner G&Ts there every night. There’s not an extensive cocktail list, but beers and spirits with mixers are no problem. Picture-perfect views, warm seawater, amazing seafood and idyllic seclusion made Tavanipupu so difficult to leave. On our first night, Mereoni told us “You arrive as strangers, become friends and leave as family”. I second that sentiment, we’ll be back!
