Stayed for one night. Wished we could have stayed longer. Travelled as two couples. Charming little pub with a great atmosphere. Accommodation nice, clean & comfortable. Beautiful location with lovely views. The food is spot on (especially the desperate dan pie). Will definitely stay again.

Visited in the evening. Nice lot of people eating and drinking so good atmosphere. Food was good, though nothing very special but certainly adequate. The Desperate Dan pie was huge! Friendly landlord and lovely log fire. Would certainly return.

We visited this place a few times throughout our week long stay in the area, sometimes for food, sometimes for drinks. The staff and locals alike are friendly, making you feel welcome. The food was great, especially the Desperate Dan Pie (see photo). The nearby pint glass puts into perspective just how large it was. The beer and wine selection... More

Stayed here for 2 nights in September. It had been recommended by a family member so expectations were pretty high, and we weren't disappointed. The welcome is second to none, if you like home cooked comfort food (which we do), it simply cannot be beaten. The food really is outstanding! Rooms are basic but have everything you need for a... Lovely food , great beer , great location . You have to go out of your way to find this gem of a pub but it is well worth the ceffort , get there early as it is very busy . Bed and breakfast available but not used so can't comment on this.

Nipped in here for a pint and a meal as I was staying at a B&B just up the road. Firstly the pub is located in a lovely area with spectacular views. Pleasant outdoor seating area and a nice touch of having a separate dog friendly room inside. Beer was good and meal was bloody gorgeous! I had meatballs and... More

Popped in for a quick bite after a busy day outside and chose the steak & ale pie. Streuth... I've not previously procured a pub pie of such prestigious proportions. Well made too. With generous meaty filling and a proper pastry crust attached to the dish, rather than the more typical hovering puff pastry monstrosity. Great beer tonight too -... More

A very warm and friendly welcome at this quaint old English pub. Excellent food, real ales, clean comfortable rooms and excellent service. Set in a quiet village in the heart of the rolling hills of Derbyshire.

We only stayed the night but we will definitely be returning. Fantastic food, we both had the Pie and the meat melted in our mouths. Great accommodation for being a dog friendly room. Our only complaint would be not having blackout curtains and the shower cubicle is small, but very powerful!

A speculative visit which proved to be very rewarding. Very much the 'local' atmosphere with ambience to match but one got that 'cosy' feeling. Ordering and payment at the bar but a carry-over arrangement was easily negotiated. Food helpings were enormous so dessert out of the question. Small dining room but very comfortable though approached by short flight of steep... More
