Enjoy your stay in Sancti Spiritus!
I was happy every day I stayed in this hotel. It is adorable and the staff are lovely. The architecture of the building, and the beautiful bar and lobby are just great. We had nice breakfasts and good drinks. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Sancti Spiritus. Also, we enjoyed the local ranchon and the hike to the waterfall - it was a gorgeous swim.
After our booking at another hotel in town was cancelled last minute due to power outages, our group of 24 hikers was redirected to the Plaza Hotel in the late afternoon. The hotel had only two staff members at that time but they rallied and even had a welcoming cocktail waiting for us. They then prepared dinner for us all, as well as breakfast and packed lunch the next two days. They even prepared a special dinner for us the second night as it was our group farewell dinner. While they operate under the restraints that plague Cuba these days such as lack of certain foods, gas, and electricity, we were so grateful for the kindness and efforts made to ensure we had an unforgetable stay. The hotel is Cuban Colonial with good size rooms, mostly working ensuite bathrooms and a lovely open-sky atrium. It is situated in the city square, a collection of beautiful architecture around a park-like plaza. Sancti Spiritu is a lovely town and we're so pleased that circumstances meant we were able to enjoy it and the graciousness of the staff at Hotel Plaza. …
We didn't stay here - just stopped in for a pre dinner drink on the very lovely ground floor terrace looking out to the Plaza. It's a good vantage point for watching the life of the city. Great Mojitos, I must say.
Sancti Spiritus is an interesting town, and this little star of a hotel makes the stay comfortable. Watching the sunset on the small terrace with a small glass was splendid! Very nicely refurnished - to extravagancy. No lift however (3-storey hotel)
This is a very quaint and small hotel. Food service and bar are excellent. Rooms are roomy and comfortable. Place is very clean. There is a nice balcony in the front of the hotel, great to observe passersby in the plaza across from the hotel. There are businesses around the hotel, and people are polite and welcoming.
After reading previous reviews of this hotel, I was a little worried about the location right on the town square. Fortunately, my room was in back of the hotel away from the main square. We had a large room/suite with a big living room, a nice big bedroom and a large bathroom. The large bed was very comfortable. Our room and the windows faced an interior garden which allowed light. We had no view of the street or the noisy square. The room had a window air conditioner in the living room and another in the bedroom. The electric sockets in this hotel were mostly 110V so we didn't have to worry about finding our converters for electric devices. We had a large TV in the living room with CNN. We had the one and only room in the hotel that didn't have a hair dryer and none were available at the front desk. Fortunately, someone in our travel group loaned me theirs. We spent two nights at this hotel. Our breakfast buffet was very nice with eggs, pastries, fruit, juices and Cafe American. I think that we might have gotten a little bit special treatment because we were a large group of 29 people. There is a bar on the main floor. You can also walk up stairs past the third floor to sit on the roof which is nice in the evening for a cool breeze. There is a wi-fi store just a block away where you can purchase wi-fi access for under 2 CUC. You can access the wi-fi anywhere on the square, but it i also accessible on the front terrace of the Plaza Hotel.…
We had 2 nights here as independant travellers,we noticed most 2 tour groups only spend one night on there way through. The Hotel is clean and charming the only thing we found is at night Parque Serafin Sanchez is a noisy meeting place and we did have trouble getting off to sleep, but if you can sleep in, its very quiet in the mornings. Breakfast was the standard Cuban fare, plain, boring and repetitive, but really with few exceptions its the same everywhere. The highlight of this hotel is sitting in the bar facing the square and watching the passing parade of locals,
We stayed here for two nights on a GoNext trip, using Sancti Spiritus as a central location for excursions into the countryside. The hotel and the square it’s located on have charm, but it is not up to American standards. It’s clean enough and has inviting areas for sitting. Our bathroom was small, with only a shower and no shampoo or lotion. The towels were poor quality, and there were no washcloths. We were treated to towel art when the room was cleaned. There was no hairdryer in our room. Some rooms did have hairdryers, but they were attached to the wall, and there was not one to borrow. The beds were comfortable enough. Take earplugs. The rooms on the street are noisy all night long, especially until about 2:00 am. All of the coffee is in the breakfast area, which normally opens at 7:30 am. Breakfast offers a variety of choices, with eggs cooked to order. A bar is open at night. Not knowing what other hotels outside of Havana are like, but guessing that many also lack amenities that Americans are used to, I recommend this hotel, as long as you are prepared. Getting to see the countryside made the inconveniences worth it.…
My wife & I stayed hear with a group of ten guests on our first night in Cuba in preparation for a 7 day classical tour. The location is excellent just off the town square, ideal for short walks to familiarise yourself with the area.We were given a cocktail upon arrival, people warm & friendly. Our room was clean and no better than adequate, very tired in need of an upgrade.Bathroom supplied only cold water with no toilet seat. This proved to be a common problem in hotels we subsequently visited. The food was basic and the service was slow. Our attempt at a nights sleep was prevented by street noise and a turbo charged air con unit.
Charming hotel except the rooms have some potential for charming. The front porch was lovely to sit on and watch the square. Hallways were decorated nicely. Noise can be a problem. Window air conditioner was adequate. Bathroom was small. Shower was not up to American standards but this is understandable and expected. Breakfast was okay. If you want to experience Cuba in a smaller town, this is a good place to stay as long as you adjust expectations accordingly.
