We planned over a period of 2 years a super wedding for my son in the Maldives.
To my horror, the resort Sun Siyam cancelled our fully PAID reservation 3 days prior to departure, as a result from non payment to them by the intermediate local travel agent.
A blessing in disguise that STEPPES ,a very high performance UK travel agency, looked after us personally and recommended Anantara Veili.
In the matter of 24 hours the Anantara Veli management organized the most perfect beach wedding ever...
They upgraded us to delux water villas and ensured that the 3 villas were next to each other.

On arrival
We were welcomed into the comfortable Anantara airport lounge and after 5 mins whisked away on a 20 mins fast speedboat trip to our paradise.
From the moment I laid eyes on the resort I knew that we had landed in heaven on earth. ..
We were assigned the most wonderful, efficient, gentle , smiling, courteous butler called RIFAU.
He looked after my whole family and I crown him King of Concierge... a magnificent chap who along with Hannif and Disney streamlined the wedding preparation.

I loved our spotlessly clean villa with a beautiful view of blue lagoon and an unspoilt view of an uninhabited island..
I would swim over to it every morning for a little walk before the fabulous b fast in Cumin.
Being an adult only island ,we were cocooned with peace and quiet...
The other resort islands were connected by a 1 mins gentle small ferry boat..
the drivers were brilliant, polite and courteous.
The 7 restaurants were just top notch.
Sea, Salt and fire was my favourite for lunch.
Hanu, was our kind waiter who looked after us daily. He is the brother of Hannif., an other super chap.

Cumin was also another favourite of ours.. delicious authentic Indian food...on the terrace al fresco beside the sea surf...music to my ears .
Bokey looked after us there and also in the morning . His recommendations were great.

Faz, a super fun lady of the Dhoni bar restaurant took special care of me, especially with the champagne!! She would keep a nice cold bottle ready on ice !!
The lads in the Dhoni bar need a special mention especially Shafi.. they were all great.
Maath in the Thai restaurant also deserves a mention for her sweet nature .
Jaylo ,also made us welcome and ready to help with photographs etc.
Asif was our housekeeper...he was wonderful. He kept our villas SPOTLESS... Came twice a day and he helped make up the room for their wedding night spectacularly. Flower petals everywhere , even in the BATH!!

The wedding was spectacular, drummers, fresh flower arrangements , photos... Rifau took loads and also a video...
A special mention also to the official photographer who has made an album fit for" Hello "magazine ...

My favourite day spot for lying out in the sun was Picnic island . The bartender Azam( hope I have the name right) took special care of me... kept my favourite sun lounger and drink ready for my arrival...I felt like royalty.
It's a beautiful little island close to the house reef.
A good spot to snorkel in .
Also ,there was a life guard on duty so one felt very safe and brave ...

it was a great island for more photo shots on the sand bank .

Unfortunately, I did nt meet GM Mr Michael Parker as I really want to THANK him for looking after us .

I conclude this review with gratitude to all the staff for giving us such a dream wedding, holiday and family honeymoon!!!!!

I’ve just returned from a truly fantastic 7 days holiday at Anantara.

From the moment we got off the boat transfer we were made to feel special, our host Jenny looked after us straight away. Jenny took us for a guided tour of the island, explained to us about the restaurants and any special events happening that week, if we needed to book any other restaurants we just had to text her, and she sorted it out.

We were staying in a deluxe over water villa, the room was fantastic, very well equipped, and well laid out. The villa has direct access to the sea as well as very comfortable sun beds and a day bed. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi in the rooms is very poor to the point of non-existent, I would expect better in a hotel of this standard.

The quality and variety of food in the restaurants was amazing, we especially liked Baan Huraa and Cumin. There was an excellent variety of food available for breakfast, we loved the fresh fruit and pastry we were given while we waited to choose our breakfast.

We booked the beach BBQ for one night, although this isn’t covered by the food package it was well worth the money. The food was amazing, the location, atmosphere and music made it one of our best nights of the holiday.

We also loved Dhoni bar, we had lunch there most days, we were always served by Faz, who deserves a special mention. She always greeted us with a smile, a cold drink and cold towel. The bar man Champika also deserves a special mention, he would always have drink on the bar for us. If there wasn’t a cocktail on the menu my wife liked Champika would look it up and make it for her.

We took out the drinks package for the 7 days we were there, I would strongly recommend taking this option for peace of mind.

The beach was really well kept, the sunbeds were well spaced apart, each sunbed had a button for you to order drinks on the beach.

The whole holiday experience was magical, and we will certainly be returning as soon as we can.

The only negative point was our transfer wasn’t until 4.00pm, we requested a late check out, but this was chargeable at $195.00. I expect to pay a small charge, but this was rather excessive. There was a small lounge and shower available to change in before you leave.

Firstly, I would like to emphasize the beauty of this place, it is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most beautiful place in the world that we have been to. The color of the sea, the overwater bungalows, the incredible room, the delicious food, the lush nature and the impeccable service at Anantara Veli left us in awe.

The convenience of arriving by boat in 30 minutes from Malé airport to Anantara Veli was an important point for us as we had already spent 23 hours flying from Brazil to the Maldives.
At Malé airport there is already a member of the Anantara team waiting for you, he took us to the hotel lounge so that we could refresh ourselves with some amenities available on site such as water, juices, coffees, teas... soon the boat was ready for take us to the hotel, around 20 minutes of waiting.
The reception upon arriving at the hotel is incredible, the team prepares a welcome greeting, it is at this reception that your personal host meets you, this is a very important point, as your personal host will accompany you throughout your stay, helping you and guiding you in whatever you need.

We stayed at the over water pool villa, the room is very spacious, beautiful, clean, organized, with lots of bottles of water available at all times, the bed linen is of high quality, so are the amenities, room service is provided twice a day. day, in the morning and at night when they prepare their room for their rest. The team is always very attentive to details.

The hotel is full of activities, such as kayaking, snorkeling, yoga, box training… there is no shortage of options. Oh, not to mention the spa, wonderful with its massages and saunas. Unmissable!

The food in all the restaurants is delicious, I emphasize that Cumin is a restaurant with some spicy meals, as I am not a person with a high tolerance for pepper I kindly requested a non-spicy dish from the waiter Manik who was very attentive and quickly resolved my situation . Another restaurant that deserves your attention is Dhoni, extremely pleasant meals and space, with delicious varieties of dishes.

I would like to highlight the politeness, kindness, attention and proactivity of our personal host Yasir, he was a crucial point in making our stay even more impeccable, he was always on hand to help us with great agility and efficiency.

The feeling you get is that the hotel is operated by very talented people, who enjoy what they do, extremely polite, kind, attentive and discreet.

The hardest part is saying goodbye to this paradise, but I'm sure we'll be back soon.

We deeply appreciate the hospitality of Anantara Veli and his team, especially our dear Yasir.

With love,
Karen and Fernando

Straight to the point:

Superior view room:
1) No AC in the bathroom (I couldn’t keep any of my toiletries there as everything would get spoiled).
2) Doors to the bathroom and minibar squeaked; it would wake you up if one of you went to the bathroom.
3) No privacy. Windows look straight to the beach of Anantara Dhigu.
4) A boat passes every 5 minutes, making noise and carrying people. So, to take a shower or use the toilet, you need to lower the curtains down.

Hotel general:
1) There is no decent beach that overlooks the ocean. You can take a boat to go to Anantara Dhigu, which had a good beach and pool.
2) The spa shuts at 7 pm! It just doesn’t make sense to me.
3) Between 4 pm and 7 pm, all restaurants in both resorts are shut, and if you're hungry, you can only get room service, which doesn’t make sense again.
4) The reef isn’t that great. When I stayed at Baros, I saw sharks, octopus, all sorts of fish, and corals there. At Anantara, you can still see sharks and some fish, but much less.

All the staff were great and helpful. Room cleaning was great, and during the dolphin-watching tour, I liked that the boat driver and his team were very respectful of wild nature ❤️. We had a bottle of champagne and snacks on arrival waiting in our room. A complementary fruit basket too.

I expect a few days of tranquility and privacy from the Maldives. I didn’t get it here.

It’s not bad, but it’s not what I expected for paying so much money. A night costs about 1162 USD half board.

Here's everything you see in real pictures, only live is 100 times better.
Everyone here is extremely courteous and polite ⁇
Each room has a concierge, we were introduced on arrival to the island. In our case it was a woman, Noah, extremely polite, created a group on whats and asked for everything we needed to be asked to her, and it was not necessary to write in another language in the group, everything in the same Portuguese, she booked all the restaurants for us, took care of every detail, always asked if everything was okay, an incredible experience.
ALL the staff of the resort are a thousand note, all flawless, all always happy, always willing to take a picture of him, and look they are great photographers.
We stayed at Veli resort, only for adults over 21 years old, and being hosted here we had access to their other resort on an island just over a minute by boat the Dhigu, this accept families with children, has a wonderful structure too, but who is staying in Dhigu has no access to Veli.
The food is very good, has plenty of choice, we had inclusive breakfast, lunch and dinner and was much more than enough.
On the island only two restaurants are not “included”, we had a credit of 120 dollars the couple to consume, and what goes is charged apart, one restaurant is Japanese and the other Thai.
All the meals we ate were well seasoned, very different from Brazil, but all very tasty and well served, remembering that at Veli all the restaurants are there, the buffet experience is only Dhigu, for breakfast and dinner ⁇
There are many water activities around here to do, all paid apart! Shark diving, rail diving, jetski...
The pool has protector sole at the guests' disposal, I found this amazing because the sun is quite warm, in addition to very cold water to drink.
Here people do not have the habit of petiscating, I found it quite different from Brazil. In the pool there were always very few people, many with a drink or even smoking narguile which is super common here, they even do the narguile preparation here in the resort.
If you are not allergic to seafood you will have the opportunity to taste all possible seafood species, has endless options, lobster, shrimp, moss ... many options.
We stayed here six and a half days, much more than enough, overall for what we saw the staff is between 4, 5 days, we took one more day because we were afraid of raining and end up losing a day here.
Here everything is paid in dollars and added to the price of what you will consume, be it drink, sport, tour is charged a rate of 26%.
I lived moments I never imagined to live in my life here, saw turtles almost my size, many sharks, rays, fish of the most infinite colors, tasted foods I never imagined to taste, played in the water as a child, learned to swim and dive.
Again I will talk about Noah, person note thousand who at all times helped us with everything, made the experience Anantara was unforgettable for us, sure in a return to the resort would like to see her there, amazing person, polite and always ready to help ⁇

Anantara Veli is an amazing vacation destination,a place to relax and enjoy pristine beaches and beautiful crystal clear water teaming with incredible marine life. Excellent and varied dining opportunities with its 4 restaurants and easy access to its neighboring sister resort with its own 3 restaurants. The accommodations are first rate, we had an overwater villa with its own infinity pool, it was total luxury. Housekeeping was incredible, never experienced such attention to detail. Plenty of activities and excursions are offered also an amazing spa with an incredible overwater location offering first class services.
The whole vibe of the island is so peaceful, often walking on the beaches and seeing no one.Be mindful that even with a half board arrangement that includes breakfast and dinner several restaurants do upcharge to dine there. Adding a beverage package is very expensive, drinking water is provided in room but all beverages including even water in all restaurants is subject to charge. Either way drinks are very expensive therefore we chose the package as they offered a reduced rate upon arrival, we would rather avoid a surprise at the end. Highly recommend Anantara Veli, it was a dream vacation and surpassed all of our expectations. Not likely to return only due to its distance and travel time and after 14 wonderful nights I felt we did it all.

This place is simply breathtaking. We stayed in a bungalow over the water on Veli and it was perfect for us. The service was exceptional. My jaw dropped when we walked in our room and I beheld the view of the exquisite water and white sand island out the window, an exquisite gluten-free vegan cake was made to celebrate our anniversary, the staff was very attentive to my dietary needs, and the food was delicious.

The bed linens were exceptional and we never had an issue with hot water or water pressure, or even A/C even though it was blistering hot when we were there.

Our concierge, NOAH, was delightful and very helpful in assisting us with organizing our activities. We indulged in surf lessons, diving, snorkeling, massage and sunrise yoga at the pavilion.

The vegan cooking class with Chef Sagar was a treat beyond words. It was outdoors, right in the Chef’s garden. He is so knowledgeable, calm, patient and very skilled. He was amenable to adapting the menu to my needs, a true delight to share the morning with him and savor delicious, colorful healthful dishes.

Noah and her assistant-in-training Sherry, made our stay ver special. We appreciate her caring service, and hope to come back to this exquisite place.

My wife and a small group of friends joined me at Anantara Veli to celebrate my 50th birthday, and we were all brilliantly looked after by Faz. The resort is utterly stunning, and the lagoon is teeming with sea life—during our stay, we even swam alongside reef sharks, rays, and turtles.

I’ve been fortunate to stay in many top hotels worldwide, including Six Senses in the Maldives, but I found the staff and service at Anantara Veli truly exceptional. The coral reefs they’ve planted around the islands and Gulhifushi attract an abundance of marine life, making the lagoon feel wonderfully alive. Although there may be better house reefs elsewhere, I was never disappointed here, and we also enjoyed a boat trip to snorkel at local reefs.

We chose the 24-hour All-Inclusive (AI) drinks package but, in hindsight, the standard AI would have been enough, as the 24-hour version only covers drinks in your room—something we didn’t really need.

Regarding the AI food options, I agree with other reviewers that this could be improved. At the moment, Dhoni and Cumin are the only two restaurants on Veli fully covered by the AI plan; at other restaurants, you receive a credit of $60, which isn’t enough. While I understand this is meant to accommodate premium options, the high cost of AI should include more than two dining venues—especially on holiday, it’s nice not to worry about extra charges. I hope management will reconsider this to avoid confusion and frustration.

We also visited nearby Dhigu, which, in my opinion, needs a refresh. Our meal at Acqua was the only disappointing food and service experience we had; although included in the AI, it didn’t live up to the resort’s otherwise high standard.

Another minor issue: the bar areas could use larger, higher-quality speakers. When the excellent DJ wasn’t there, the music sounded as if it were coming from a phone, and if they had some more playlists it would create a better atmosphere.

Yes, there is a “Manhattan-like” view of another island in the distance. If you’d prefer a more remote Maldivian feel, you may need to take a seaplane elsewhere. However, the flip side is that Veli is just a 30–45 minute boat ride from the airport, which is extremely convenient and seamless.

Overall, we would absolutely return. The staff are incredible, the island is stunning, and the accommodations are of a truly high standard. We experienced both the newest overwater and beach villas, and ended up preferring the beach option. If the AI dining package were adjusted (or dropped altogether to avoid confusion), it would be near perfect.

Bravo to the entire team, and thank you for a magical birthday!

Heaven on earth. Impossible shades of blue. Immaculate gardens. It really felt like a simulation of the ideal holiday one could possibly imagine.

Our room liaison person - Nount - was exceptional. Contactable 24/7 and was able to accommodate any request. Made my wife feel really special on her birthday by organising cake and champagne to our room without me even asking. My wife thought I was the most thoughtful best husband ever. And yes, I took all the credit (thanks, Nount!).

With the Aussie dollar being smashed, the USD pricing made everything really expensive, but the quality and service was so good that I didn’t at any time feel like it was a rip off.

Happy hour at Dhoni bar from 4-5pm was a highlight. Kareem and his team are exceptional. A tip is to ask them for their bottle menu and buy a bottle of gin or vodka. You can drink it over days and they keep it for you behind the bar. More economical.

We enjoyed both the adult breakfast at Veli and the buffet breakfast at the other Island.

Best restaurant was the Thai restaurant (superb) followed by the Indian restaurant (crab curry was one of the best Indian dishes I have ever eaten).

All up, an unbelievable amazing holiday. Can’t wait to come again.

Just leaving what has been a truly incredible stay at Anantara Veli in the Maldives and I can’t say enough how amazing this place is.

From the moment you arrive, they greet you and help with luggage, take you on a speedboat from the airport and in 30mins you’re at the resort, although this was a bit more for us as we came across a pod of dolphins and they stopped the boat to let us take that incredible sight in! When you arrive, you are greeted with a coconut and they drive you on a golf buggy around the island for a quick tour and then onto the overwater villa we went. Truly wow.

From day one, we saw turtles, and sharks just while we walked along the jetty, and then we could just walk into the lagoon and swim right up next to them. The coral reefs here are wonderful, and right in front of our balcony. So many exotic fish, and the water is always incredibly clear, so it’s a true joy to snorkel here, like nothing I’ve experienced elsewhere.

The food and drinks are phenomenal: the many restaurants will leave you wanting to go back again and again (personally our favourite was Baan Huraa, the Thai overwater one), and the cocktail list is to die for. Nothing is ever too much hassle for the staff here either, they will gladly find you ice-cream at 5pm if you so wish (special thanks to Kamal for that one!).

I must also comment on the spa: the therapists are outstanding, and the spa itself is the most heavenly tranquil cocoon you will find, just sounds of the birds, the ocean, the breeze in the trees.

We chose Anantara Veli because of the relative proximity to Male (speedboat vs seaplane), the fact that it’s an adults only resort (there is a sister island next to it called Dighu where they have another hotel where you can also use the dining facilities, it’s a 2min boat ride with a boat every few minutes), and because of how beautiful the resort and rooms looked, and it truly exceeded all our expectations.

Honestly I feel I have just experienced one of the most relaxing and peaceful times of my life being here, and I am so thankful to have experienced it. If you’re lucky enough to go to the Maldives, do not hesitate and book Anantara now!

Thanks to our host Ibrahim for helping arrange everything for us while we were there!

Answer from Caprice K
Yeah, it isn't very clear and the all inclusive package seems quite excessive. But as I understand it if you have a meal package beverages are not included. I was quoted $650/night to add the lunch and 12 hour drink package. I can't see myself even getting wasted for that much every night and even if indulge at lunch. But I'm the same and don't see myself having more than a cocktail or glass of wine each night. Therefore have opted out of the extra lunch and drink package.

I am traveling to Maldives in Oct 2024. Which over water villa is farthest away from the beach?

The deluxe over-water pool villas. These are the last 6 on the long jetty and have spectacular views over the ocean. We were told by our host that these are the newest villas on the island and they have a bit bigger floor plan. It feels like you’re the only ones there!
