I was back in my hometown last summer; My wife and I decided to have our wedding here the traditional way. About 30 friends joined us from all over the globe and we all stayed at Hotel Alvero for those days. I just can't say enough about the great time we had and how pleased we all were with our stay there. Few points:
1) The hotel owners and staff are extremely friendly. The owners speak English which was extremely helpful for communicating with everyone (my international friends don't speak Albanian). They even arranged transportation for some of them who were in need for after the wedding travels.
2) The room we stayed at had a small window towards the city center and a big window facing down the river. The room was pleasantly cool during the hot days and the view from the big window was beautiful. Our bed was also very comfortable and we woke up refreshed every morning.
3) The place is *very* clean, despite being extra busy at the height of tourism season.
4) We had breakfast every morning at the hotel's cafe and patio. The food quality was excellent - super fresh local ingredients served every morning and the patio was perfect for hanging out with everyone in the morning sipping our coffee and sharing our stories of the previous days.
5) The hotel has a nice and spacious backyard with trees providing plenty of shade. This space was great for after-siesta relaxation time and hanging out together in the evenings.
6) Last but not least, the hotel is right in the town center, which was a huge advantage because everything is right there. In the afternoons, the town is so live and everyone goes for a stroll (locals call it xhiro - jeero) around that area. It feels so welcoming and it's something that I miss the most from my hometown.
Bathroom has glass door so lets in too much light and thin bright red curtains. Lovely view over the river but the best view is actually from the bathroom
Main power went off at 0900 so no A/C or hairdryer which meant I had to ask for it to be put back on
Plastic slippers (flip flops) were provided but I question the hygiene of continued use by many guests
The hotel is run by a couple who, despite other reviews do not speak very good English.
The food here was not very good either for evening ,meal or for breakfast. The salad had been left around for a while and the tomatoes had soaked up all the opil and gone soggy, the pork was dry and had ben reheated and the ‘baked potatoes’ were swimming in oil. Breakfast choice was very limited, there is no hot choice, no fruit, strong bitter coffee, bread that had been cut into small pieces, no pastries but a small biscuit in a cellophane wrap. The local jams were however excellent, especially the walnut one and the fig one.
"All rooms are great, view the city and the mountain of Nemercka or the Vjosa River."Read full review
