We had a great week at the Kanberra. There is a front gate along with a security guard on staff 24/7, and I felt incredibly safe my whole stay. The manager and staff were all attentive. The rooms/bathrooms are alright, but for the price and location, it was pretty great. I would definitely recommend!
I enjoyed my visit to Lira with an NGO group recently. The Kanberra was a solid base for our travels and about what I’d expect here. Rooms very clean. Bathrooms adequate, although I’d heard reports that the small electric water heaters can give electric shocks or even catch alight so we chose to stick with cold showers for safety. When we were there the power was good, which meant the ceiling fans could stay on all night which was wonderful. Mosquito nets were in pretty good condition too. The water failed twice but each time it was rectified pretty quickly. Even though the front gate is manned by security guards, I was surprised to find my windows didn’t lock. My room backed onto a side fence which didn’t look too secure but I wasn’t sure if this was a problem. They did have fly screens, which was great, but if the window security bothers you maybe ask for an upstairs room or one with a window lock that works. Food was ok. Breakfast a bit sparse but I found out you can ask for an omelette to be made for a small extra charge. Service in the dining room was a bit “cool” (that’s being polite) but all other staff were very friendly. I’d stay at Kanberra again. …
I spent a memorable 2 weeks at the Kanberra Hotel in May this year. It was such a life changing experience spending time in the town of Lira and learning about Ugandan life and culture while staying at the hotel. The staff are accommodating to anything you need, and leave you smiling. My friends and I felt secure, catered to, and relaxed over the 2 weeks. If you are looking for a simple, friendly, and stress free stay in Uganda this hotel ticked all the boxes. Thanks from all of us. We will definitely return.
Safety is a big plus in this area of the world. Security was good. rooms were so so, They had mosquito nets (which was a must). The staff were awesome and the breakfasts were delicious. We had water issues when I stayed there, which always seemed to go out when I was having a shower :) The hotel is centrally located in Lira. It seemed to be the place where a lot of western NGO's or business folk stay
Great and excellent place. I and my team enjoyed every bit of this hotel. Great smiling staffs. Please keep my Room 7 clean as usual. Hahahaha. Keep it up. Jacob from Zambia. I would recommend this hotel especially Room 7 to any person.
