Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
We just returned from another fabulous week at the Villa Del Palmar. The rooms had been updated and very sheik. I liked that they have decreased their plastic use with refillable shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the showers. A 1 bedroom worked okay for our family of 4 (kids were supposed to sleep on the pull out sofa but one made a bed out of the cushions). The nespresso machine was a nice treat. The view was magnificent and we made good use of our hammock. The few times I needed to work, I got good Wi-Fi on the balcony.
The pools were very clean. I was happy to see that there are fewer people blocking groups of chairs early in the morning — if you wanted you could find a few lounge chairs at any time if you weren’t too picky about which pool you hung out at. This was our first year with Elite status so we hung out at the Elite pool, which was just lovely. Kevin and Carlos made sure we had everything we needed. Our waiters like Eric were super attentive with amazing cocktails and lunches from the Snack Bar. It was so luxurious to have a cabana with pillows and towels all set for us right at the infinity pool.
I loved going to yoga each morning and participated in a number of the pool/beach activities like movie trivia and bags. My husband and I also went on the organized bike ride to the El Meco ruins, which was about 15 min ride on sidewalks. You pay $5 to get into the archeological site and it’s more than worth if it you are not making the long drive to Tulum or Chichenitza. The iguanas sunbathing on the ruins were an added treat. We liked it so much that we returned by cab with our kids later in the week (warning it’s $20 for a 6 min ride, but the driver stayed while we explored so the total $40 seemed well spent). It’s super buggy so cover up and accept the bug spray from the man at the gate.
We also tried the inflatable obstacle course. You wade out, which my kids didn’t love, but it was pretty hilarious to try. I did some paddle boarding as well, but sadly the kids cannot participate. They can, however, kayak. They liked the kids club activities like scavenger hunt, mocktail class, and pizza making but it’s a lot smaller than the one they loved in Nuevo Vallerta. The Christmas party with Santa complete with dessert bar and dance revue was a highlight. The kids also liked the lovely carousel that runs starting at 4 pm among the lovely (but expensive) shopping along the Garza Blanca front terrace. For more affordable souvenirs, turn left out of the resort and then left again by the gas station to a little shop with the usual cancun stuff.
The food could not have been better. We did the all inclusive package as I didn’t want to think about prices during our stay. Much better to prepay and then forget about it. That said, I am sure I are and drank more than I would have otherwise. My kids loved the breakfast buffet, which has something for everyone with a lovely ocean view. Only issue was the milk isn’t cold- assuredly a cultural quirk. We tried every restaurant. I am a pescatarian, no shellfish, and did not have a problem finding delicious Tuna, Salmon, grouper, and Seabass dishes. The host staff is always careful to ask about food restrictions. I love that you can reserve at either resort— adds variety. My kids mostly ate from the adults menu, and the wait staff was very accommodating of their desire for everything on the side. They also made lovely mocktails for them now that they have the taste for them (try the Perry Punch or Lychee Bubblegum). The desserts were also fabulous, especially the passion fruit creme brûlée at La Casona. My favorite meal was the Tuna at Zama, my husband’s was his short ribs at Blanca Blue, my kids seemed to love La Casona where they split salmon and sirloin best. Hiroshi’s sushimi was delicious though the kids didn’t love the ramen. My least favorite was the fish and chips from the gormet food hall but the brisket my husband and son ordered got great reviews.
We did go on the member update to check out Garza Blanca. It’s super modern- every detail is beautiful. We like villa del Palmar for the more Mexican motif. But it is gorgeous especially the rooftop infinity pool. Be warned, the sales guys are very good at their jobs. But we asked that they simply hold the offer open until the end of the week and the bocked, so we knew the “upgrade” wasn’t for us. We did love the discount, however, on our excursion to Xavage, which was simply incredible. I will do a separate review.

My wife and I do a week's vacation every year in February marking our birthdays. This year we chose Villa del Palmar as our destination. I gave this place a four but a very high four. Five is perfect and almost nobody gets a five from me but anyways.....let's do The good, The bad, and The Beautiful on this one!
The Good.
Food is very good with the exception of the sushi at Hiroshimi is subpar, and the steakhouse needs work. The buffet option on site is very good with an amazing breakfast and nightly variations. The Bite is the poolside selection with amazing salads and the nachos are excellent. Two Mexican options are both top shelf and the Italian offering is an amazing addition to round out the dining selections. Also the liquor is plentiful and not diluted like some resorts.
The Bad
Ninety percent of Palmar's overall personal attention is the best. However, while not being critical a few things are important to know and whether it was our negligence or was it their negligence is probably up for debate, but there was a couple of situations that were not clear to us and it caused some discomfort, but when made aware, they made sure things were right. While the staff is more than friendly, we would have to say they are not quite as outgoing as some places we have been too. And again, that could just have be our expectations and some people may not even notice. All in all my advice to whomever is reading this is, if you're unclear on anything, don't be afraid to ask and they will go above and beyond to make it clear!
The Beautiful!
To us this place was immaculate! Very beautiful with 5 nicely appointed pools, pool loungers in abundance, and very very clean! Beach beds included in the price of admission, you just need to get up early to get one. The beach is constantly being groomed which may annoy some but it was brief and harmless. Daily activities including entertainment, education and fun! The place is extremely beautiful at night being very architecturally lighted for maximum appeal! The beds in the rooms are so very comfortable which many of the guests we talked to totally agreed! We chose the one bedroom Villa which is more than enough room, complete with 2 bathrooms and a Jacuzzi tub in the bedroom between the bed and the rest of the bathroom. Full-size two sink vaniity in the master for the ladies getting ready for the evening dining. A small kitchen complete with all appliances including dish washer made for nice easy cleanup, late nite snack cravings and keeping all your drinks cold. And room service was extremely accommodating and remarkably quick and the food was delicious.
Yes! If given the opportunity, we will be back!

We decided on Villa del Palmar for our recent family reunion. Expectations were not high given we were arriving at the busiest time (new year) and had a large group (30+). First things first, the staff at the front desk were great (specially the front desk manager Mr Jose Rios) in accommodating us and doing their best for all of us to have our rooms even though some of us arrived before the checkin time.
The restaurant staff also went above and beyond accommodating our large party during dinners. Their one bedroom suits were supper spacious, included 2 bathrooms with shower, bath tub, kitchens and washer and dryer. The cleaning crew did a tremendous job making sure our room was always clean and made up. The food selection was really good too. Our favorite dinner sport was probably the steakhouse and the sushi restaurant, both had great food and ambiance. Lastly, the waiting staff at the pool were really great. Even though the resort was at full capacity, they always were able to find us lounge chairs and made sure our cups were never empty. Thanks for everything

We are timeshare owners in the Villa group, and this was our first trip to Cancun, mainly to visit the pyramids and other Mayan ruins (we usually go to Vallarta).
First the good: The resort is very beautiful, well designed and attractive inside and out. The room we got was stunning, basically a 1 bedroom apartment (even though our membership is for studio), very luxurious with a patio (with hammock) with a gorgeous view. The staff were all very friendly, and the check-in professional and quick. As always they try to sign you up for a "members update", which of course is just a sales pitch, but the concierge was not at all pushy when we told him we weren't doing it. Very polite and professional.
As far as amenities go, excellent pools,a great gym, and a lovely small bar on the beach with swing style seats. There are several other bars and a variety of restaurants so lots of choice for those choosing to eat and drink in the resort.
Now the bad: The location is not good if you want to do anything outside the resort. It is a long way from the airport (1 hour by taxi), which means a VERY expensive taxi ride if you arrive at the airport cold. We had booked in advance with Cancun Shuttle for $29 each way, which is reasonable. A taxi will charge you $100!!! The resort is also a long way from Cancun itself, and there is no bus line to the resort area that we could find, so once again you're stuck taking expensive taxis. The Hotel does offer a shuttle to town for $5 each, but you have to book the day before and if they don't have at least 4 people they won't go. And you still have to taxi back.
We had booked a couple of tours of the pyramids, and again the location was a huge disadvantage. Our hotel was first on the pick up and last on the drop off, so we had to be picked up at 7 am for a tour that didn't start until 9, and were not back at the hotel until 9 at night.
There are no restaurants, shops or bars close to the resort so you're kind of stuck in a bubble, and the food and drink at the resort is EXPENSIVE. They know they have a captive crowd so they charge accordingly. The one benefit of the location is the ferry port to Isla Mujeres, 5 walking distance. We spent more time in Isla Mujeres, which is lovely, for meals and drinks than we did at the resort.
The beach was disgusting. There is a problem with an invasive seaweed that is constantly washing up on the beach, and it stinks, and makes the water VERY unattractive. Very few people were in the water. The try to mitigate the problem by using a tractor to move the seaweed, unfortunately laying on a lounger trying to relax was ruined by the tractor going back and forth in front of you for an hour.
The resort caters to a lot of all-inclusive guests, which is fine if you like it (we prefer to visit local places). The main problem is that many Americans on 1 week all-inclusive holidays try to get their money's worth by drinking as much as possible. There were a lot of drunks on the beach and by the pools by 1 pm, some of them loud and obnoxious, which kind of spoils the relaxing atmosphere.
Although the resort was stunning, we won't return, mainly because of the horrible location.

My wife and I had a nice stay here. Having never stayed here before I was very pleased and how well the grounds were kept up and how nice the room was. They kept the beach clean of seaweed and offered activities such as snorkeling & paddle boarding. It's further out that most of the resorts so you may feel isolated but we were able to catch the ferry over to "Isla Mujeres" for a change of scenery and shopping. The only inconveniences I had was that a couple of the restaurants have a dress code that men must wear a collared shirt and I didn't bring any so I had to purchase one from the gift shop. I brought some nice clothes but we're on the beach so I think no beach attire would be a more appropriate rule. One rule I think they should implement is "no heels in the rooms", one morning I was awaken at about 5am thinking someone was in my room only to realize that it was the room above me. So I had to listen to heels walking for 20min. So drop the shirt collar rule and add no heels in rooms. Other than that I would definitely go back!

This place is an entire vibe! From beginning to end, even in the midst of a hurricane! I visited with three friends, all from Tucson, AZ, my first time in Cancun but not Mexico. We arrived after midnight and check-in took about 30 min to get us all registered, as we bought the all inclusive package. We were all in adjoining suites, one king room, one room with two double beds and a kitchenette adjoined by a living room with a full kitchen and a murphy bed so everyone had their own space! The fridge was stocked with an assortment of drinks, a few snacks and we ordered a smorgasbord of food once we got settled! Room service is available at all times ☺️
Our first full day: we went to the cafe for breakfast where mask are required and they are social distancing, hand sanitizer is administered before seating and the staff has mask as well. The resort didn't disappoint, they came through in every aspect. The beach was beautiful, the pool was clean! Social distancing was even observed there, as best it could be. We'd go down in the morning to claim our seats with towels and personal items and it was never disturbed. The poolside service was superb and the drinks were flowing! Monday (10/26) there were rumblings of Tropical Storm Zeta turning into a category one hurricane so the resort began to prepare. We went on our excursions (booked through the hotel concierge) which was also effected, we only got to do 2 of 4 things but it was still great! Upon returning to the resort arrive 6pm, we were greeted an given boxed lunch (sandwich, chips, drink and a piece of fruit) as everything else on the property was shut down. They gave us instructions on hurricane procedures and we headed to our room on the 5th floor where we basically sat with the patio door open as the wind and temperature felt great. We all went to sleep around 2am and I was awakened an hour or two later when I heard a weird suctioning noise, the water was hitting the patio door via the wind and getting stuck between the screen and the door. The next morning, all was good, you could see the staff cleaning, trying to get things in order just like any other day. Men in the pool removing sand and debris, etc. However, our living room was soaked, water was leaking from the ceiling above so we had to move to a comparable room which wasn't the same but close enough. We ended up in 1001 which had a wrap around patio, personal jacuzzi but only one double bed so my friend and I had to share but all in all this trip was A1.
Dear 994kalaj, Thank you for allowing other guests learn from your experience, it is great to see you have a great stay despite the fact we went through a hurricane experience, and the fact you resume all the process in a very few words, it tells us our staff did an amazing job, because unset and set all the resort in two days is a very hard thing to do, because at the same time we need to keep our services, so we are very glad is was a soft process for all of our guests. We can´t say we are proud of becoming experts on hurricane contingency management! But must say, this is a terrific and very strong building, capable to handle hurricanes without a problem, Kind Regards, Juan Carlos Gonzalez General Manager

Resort is beautiful, clean, well taken care of. 5 pools and multiple restaurants onsite make it worry free vacation spot for people who can afford their prices. Located on the beach, away from downtown Cancun and very touristy Hotel Zone, it's tranquil, has amazing views of carribean turquoise water and Isla Mujeres at some distance. Couple of minutes walking through the beach to the north will bring you to the car-ferry, that you can take to get to the Isla Mujeres, with beautiful beaches and plenty of water sport activities in less than an hour. As I mentioned earlier, there are options to eat onsite. Your choice either to pay for "all-inclusive" or choose to figure out your meals on your own. For second option you may like Starbucks and little store that they have, more expensive than if you go shopping in Cancun, but very convenient. In Cancun there are stores where you can buy food very inexpensive. Across from resort is the stop where you can catch collectivo (public transportation van) to get to downtown. The cost in 2020 is 10 pesos per person. If you don't feel confortable taking it, there are taxis that were offered to us for 150 pesos for the 3 of us. We chose Blanca Blue restaurant for all of our "all-Inclusive" breakfasts and lunches, and I can recommend this Mexican restaurant to anyone, even if you generally not a big fan of Mexican cuisine. We had dinner there once, and it requires reservation. Another dinner we had in Italian restaurant that offered very nicely prepared and presented meals, but we felt like the service was a little lacking in comparison to Blanka Blue's. The one bedroom suite was very nice, had full kitchen with everything you might need to cook. On arrival we had couple complementary water bottles and coffee left for us on the counter, which was very nice touch from resort. And how could I forget to mention the welcoming offering of drinks, including glass of champagne, as soon as we entered the concierge area to get checked in!

+1
This was our second visit to Cancun this year and were a little skeptic as to how it would go with the whole Covid situation going on. All our expectations were surpassed as far as safety and hygene is concerned. From the moment you arrive your luggage is sanitized and everything they do is oriented to make you feel safe. The service and food quality are amazing in all restaurants. Top shelf liquors are included in the all inclusive package. The rooms are very neat and clean as is the entire property. 100% recommendable. The Room Service Manager herself, Ahide Hernandez, delivered my daughter's birthday celebration arrangements and they had additional details like decorating the room and bringing a delicious cake beautifully decorated which we did not expect. The staff is incredibly kind and make you feel at home every second.

We come to VDP each year for the past 4 years. Service at the pool is always exceptional and we love seeing Moises year after year as he always makes sure we are comfortable and ensures we have everything we need to make vacation relaxing. Victor took excellent care of our group of 12 near the pool which was not an easy feat! Breakfast buffet was delicious each morning, I love that they are now making chilaquiles by order! We ate 3 times at Davino because the food and service was so incredible! The appetizers, service and dessert at the steakhouse were wonderful. I’m sad to see that many standard steaks are now on the up charge list at the steakhouse, I’m assuming that they are trying to makeup for some losses for Covid, and there were plenty of other options.
Our room was comfortable and clean. Housekeeping did a remarkable job of adding nice touches throughout to make us feel special.
I had a hiccup with concierge in the beginning. I didn’t even need to complain about it, the supervisor heard and contacted me the next morning and took care of us the rest of our stay. Isabel went out of our way to make sure our stay was exceptional far exceeding what I would expect from a concierge. Honestly after the initial issue with the concierge I would not have considered returning, but they really did make it right and go above and beyond to make sure we keep coming back year after year!

We stayed hear for 6 days, 5 nights. The resort and the amenities are beautiful, well maintained, extremely clean and the staff made our trip. Every single person we encountered from our concierge, bell man, room service, check in/out, room service, servers, waiters, etc. were so nice, helpful and accommodating to our limited Spanish.
Our room was large, very clean with a comfortable bed. Our favorite was our private hammock on our deck.
We ordered room service a couple times. They set up the food on our table and made sure we had everything we needed before leaving.
The pools were fun and clean. We scuba trained in the pool and was surprised at how clean the water was....usually you can see all kinds of particles floating in the water.
The restaurants all had very good food and many options. We loved the variety of drink options at each locations which were all delicious. Breakfast was great, we loved the snack bar for lunch and although all restaurants on the property were great we loved Hiroshi!
Our experience at Hiroshi was our favorite. We ended up dining hear multiple times because we loved the food. It was tasty, presented well and had a good variety of Japanese type food. Our waiter, Martin Zorroza, made our dining experience. He was fun, energetic, a great waiter and just made our dining experience special. Out of all the great staff he stood out to us!

The room I got has two bathrooms. One is ensuite, featuring a glass door with a jacuzzi just a few steps away from my bed—super convenient and luxurious. The second bathroom is outside the room, located near the kitchen, and it comes with a standard door for privacy.
Yes you can eat at some of the Garza Blanca restaurants but not all of them. Check with the resort to see which ones are available. And please make reservations ahead of time.
just realized that I didn’t take advantage of my free breakfast while I was there—haha! Honestly, I had no idea about it. But it wouldn't hurt to check with the staff. They’re always considerate and focused on ensuring a great stay for their guests.
Sorry for the late reply. Just got this today. The best way is to make round trip reservation through this resort. Was fast and only $40 for three people.
Sorry for such a late reply. Didn't know these questions were being asked. The beach is wonderful but short to the water. The snorkeling right inside the very long roped area is fantastic when there isn't a storm. If there is a storm, the water can be milky. But of the five times I've been there it's only happened a few days out of 25. You'll find lobsters, all kinds of fish, starfish, and lots of sting rays. There are some rocks about mid-way which is where you'll find the fish/lobsters! Listen for clicking and you will know you are approaching some coral.
