The original features remain evident including beams and thick walls. Hambrook lies about five miles north of the centre of Bristol, between Winterbourne and Frenchay; Hambrook is a conservation area preserved in a rich history of architecture, mentioned in the Domesday book in 1086 –in the rain of William the Conqueror. The Old Star changed its use at the beginning of the 19th Century and became a thriving public house which was well known in the hamlet of Hambrook. The Old Star public house was very popular up until the end of the eighties when it was bought and renovated changing its use from a pub to a guest house B&B, the then owners added to the property whilst keeping the original look. This took around 12 years, renovating to a high standard and making The Old Star a very successful B&B business. Today The Old Star is still run as a B&B, as well as a family home. The business side of the property is now well established and very popular with professionals and tourists alike. Tony and Caron have owned the property for over ten years and have continued the tradition of renovating the property to a high standard. Recently all the main guest rooms have been decorated and fitted with high quality contemporary en suites. The rest of the house has also been extensively updated, in keeping with the originality of the house. Tony and Caron have managed to bring up a large family and work professionally during the week and still run the B&B. We feel the house has a great look and feel for those wanting something different, quirky and interesting with a charming blend of old and modern. Visitors and guests will always comment on the house and its great features. Every room has a different look and feel that blends to make The Old Star a great functioning property and a very special home to live in." Tony is a mental health nurse and works for a local hospital and Caron is a hair dresser with 25 years’ experience. Caron now runs her salon from within The old Star – specially built within the house. Guests staying for perhaps a wedding, a party or just business can arrange to have a trim or a full range of hair styling – see our salon page for prices and arrangements. For whatever purpose, business or pleasure, ‘The Old Star’ will be your choice of convenience, come to rest, while you plan your day, friendly accommodating and informative service – stay with us without the fuss.
