We are a family run business that offer comfortable stays in the Icelandic country side. We offer rooms with great views over the valley and are right in the middle of the Golden Circle route. We also offer a summer time horse rental with trips to a local waterfall, as well as our farm to table restaurant and coffee shop with home made ice-creams. Here people can see into our dairy and watch the cows whilst they eat the products that come from them. Everyone is welcome to stop by here at Efstidalur for a taste of the traditional Icelandic farm life.

The family running the place was always friendly, waited up for a late arrival and made sure the stay was a pleasant and whole experience. The site celebrates their ongoing heritage of the farm and there is a lot of information all over the restaurant and farm about their history.
The little lodges are cozy with all the necessary amenities.
Vegans and vegetarians are excellently cared for with the savoury dishes - but there is no dairy free ice cream. The ice cream which they make on site is amazing, well worth a try even for those who wouldn’t normally have one.

On the Golden Circle tour, my guide stopped by the facility for an ice cream. While we waited for the line to get smaller, we looked through the windows to see the cows munching on hay in the connected adjacent barn. The ice cream had no icicle texture; just smooth and creamy

Stayed in a log cabin in deep snow-all paths cleared and gritted to go over to the restaurant! So cosy with underfloor heating and a shower room with ‘vintage’ plumbing.
Such a lovely and unique place; sitting in the cafe looking through the window to the barn where the cows are munching away contentedly while smiling at you too. The homemade food products were delicious and the ice cream and yoghurt divine!

We visited the restaurant and the ice cream shop. While we loved the idea of being on a farm, the restaurant is like eating in a high-priced burger joint. Limited menu and the beef salad was mediocre. Two of us liked their burgers however. We were done with the meal In a half hour.

And while it was charming to watch the cows through a window while having ice cream, the ice cream was nothing special.

This place, we loved it. Growing up on farms this place was like being back home for us. The staff here is super helpful and friendly even though they were a bit low manned due to the off season, they still made every effort to give us the advice and services we needed. The room was great, amazing view of the countryside. The food was also great from their own farm produced meats and dairy to the food from neighboring farms. It was great. You even can sit close to the windows to watch the cows eat their hay. Wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t like the smell of farm animals though but we didn’t mind a bit. The best part was the ice cream though. It was incredible. So many different flavors and all produced from their own dairy cows. We will be back if we come to Iceland again! Until next time!

This place is so good! The location: quiet countryside. The staff: happy and skilled. The food: amazing. The rooms: cozy, quiet, no television 👍🏼 This whole place is simply magical. They serve their own food: from feta to meat and salad to icecream.

Hotel was perfect after a long flight on our first day in Iceland. Onsite restaurant offered a great meal and the ice cream shop was a nice after dinner treat. Bonus of this hotel is the location, you can start the day closers to the geyser and before the bus tours arrive.

Rustic accommodations, comfortable beds, could do with more lighting in the rooms especially over the desk. As our stay was overnight only we did not take advantage of any of the farm aspects. The ice cream shop is definitely a draw for travelers especially as you can watch the cows enjoying their hay as you enjoy your ice cream. Restaurant is billed as “farm to table”. We had the pan-fried trout for dinner and it was one of the best meals we enjoyed in Iceland. The trout is provided from a local lake, served with roasted vegetables and side salad. Breakfast is pretty basic; cereals, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, meats, Skyr but the dark bread was the best! A bit on the spicy side but so good.

Good beds, plenty of spacious room, friendly people. Sufficient blackout window covering although a little light comes through the cracks, for us not disturbing.
But the sound insulation is almost nil. You can hear everything, both the rooms next to you and the passing people outside.

A wonderful farm hotel conveniently located close to Thingvellir national park and other major attractions such as geysir.

The rooms are comfortable and quaint, while the farm is peaceful and charming. The breakfast was delicious, featuring farm to table products such as the farm's own milk, butter and skye. The restaurant also serves burgers for lunch and dinner. There's also an ice cream cafe on the ground floor with very delicious ice cream.

The service was brilliant, and the staff went above and beyond to accede to our requests.

I think that might be a little late. If you're flying in. I would stay the night in Reykjavik, relax and go in the morning. Enjoy.

I think you would be better off contacting the tour company to see if they will pick up from the Farmhotel. The Farmhotel is very close to the Geysir and Gullfoss so if you are hiring a car, you can just drive to those locations yourself. The drive from the airport is a little more than 2 hours in good conditions. Since you are traveling at the end of February, there may be some winter conditions (snow and ice) to deal with so the drive may be longer. I've never been that time of year so I honestly can't say what the weather will be like. Iceland weather can be tricky at times so look into that.

The website is efstidalur.is and the phone number is +354 486-1186. Cell +354 848-1622 and address Efsti-dalur II, 801 Bláskógabyggð. It's a family run business (and a big family to boot) so there's usually someone around to answer questions. Hope this helps!

I would recommend an extra day at Skaftafell, just because it is (comparatively speaking) less busy and the surrounding scenery absolutely spectacular. If the weather permits I recommend hiking up from the Skaftafell camp site towards the end of the day - maybe an hour or so before sunset. You can get up into the forest there with a view out over the plains and glacier tongues and have a picnic there before walking up to Svartifoss. If you time it right you will have the place to yourself and can get back down to your car/tent before sundown. Also, just before Jokulsarlon proper, on the left is another glacier lake which you can stop at and walk over to which is always much quieter and also spectacular.
