After 2 hours of navigation (fast boat) along the Rio Negro river, crossed dolphin, local community and lost beach, this wonderfull charming eco lodge will be waiting for you. Your hosts accompanied by their pets, monkeys, wild pig, parrots… will welcome you with a smile and a cocktail to discover your bungalow perched among the trees. Do not look for your telephone network, your TV or your minibar …. you are in the wrong place ... During the day, they will offer you many activities such as walks in the middle of the mythical Amazonian forest, fishing and even piranha, visiting the Indian community with the possibility of attending shows and at nightfall go observe the Cayman with small boats accompanied by the sounds of the forest a unique experience. All this before the evening meal lovingly prepared by the owner and certainly the best preparations, I have had the opportunity to taste in the Amazon. This experience will remain unforgettable for me

This is the best place we found on our journey through South America. Excellent food (more than 5 stars), wonderfull welcome, walks in the jungle, by boat, also at night, swimming with dolphins, and swimming in the laguna of Rio Negro at the lodge, or relaxing in the hammocks, talking to the monkeys and the wild pigs.

This really was a trip of a lifetime in so many ways. The setting is spectacular, the hospitality unmatched and the attention to details memorable. We first communicated in email with Mabel. She was super friendly, her communication was prompt and easy. Our guide for most of the trip was Nixon. He is an excelant guide, very patient with kids, someone who realy understands the area and is fantastic in explaining it to guests. Just as impressive was a rest of the team from owner, chefs to cleaners. This was our second trip to Tariri and we are soon returning.

When we arrived we found a tour group of 6 people with 2 guides already there, and I we were a bit disheartened by the usual tour group nonsense 'I want everybody to cal out Banana, Banana, and the monkeys will come to eat in front of you' etc. However, once they had gone, we could really appreciate the beauty and tranquility of this wonderful lodge. The rooms are large and have everything you need, including a hammock room at the back with views, through mossquito grilles, into the Primary forest. The food is all very good, and unlike other places we stayed in Brazil, chilled water is available to fill up your bottles day and night. The semi tame animals wandering around are a delight, no begging for food or pestering you at all, but will interact when they want. At one point a monkey joined me in a hammock, then a toucan landed on my arm! They then stared each other out as if to say 'Go and find your own human, this one is mine!' We enjoyed all the activities, especially the one neither of us were really interested in, Piranah fishing. A couple of hours lazing in a boat, line out, beer in hand, was great. We caught a few, and had them for tea too, which was a bonus. From being picked op from our hotel, to being taken back to the airport, the whole experience went smoothly. Of our visits to The Pantanal, Iguaza Falls, and the Amazon (plus a few one nighters elsewhere) this was our favourite stay in Brazil.

There are not enough superlatives to describe our stay at Tariri Lodge. As a family of six we were looked after with warm professionalism and genuine care by all staff throughout our stay. Any mild worries we had as a group before our arrival were quickly allayed - I don’t think we saw one mosquito in four days (due to the acidity of the Rio Negro), the veritable banquet laid before us by Fabiola at every meal meant everybody ate heartily and happily, our well-being was quietly ensured by Germano in every situation and we were able to enjoy both jungle and river without fear. Meeting the local villagers was a special visit for us all and piranha fishing (and eating) was a family afternoon out we will never forget! An afternoon and evening boat trek through the rain forest found us navigating the river accompanied by pink and grey dolphins, spotting sleeping sloths, feeding squirrel monkeys by hand as they balanced on branches over the boat and our son holding a baby caiman fished expertly from the shallows by Germano - before being put back gently to swim away. The lodge itself is breathtaking; built on stilts and thatched with palm. Wire mesh at the windows and two powerful fans in each hut keep the rooms beautifully cool and critter-free. The lodges are clean, comfortable and provide more electrical points than any hotel room we stayed at. The friendly monkeys, toucans, parrots and pigs kept us amused for hours - who needs WiFi when a toucan has run off with your flip flop and there are monkeys swinging themselves in the guest hammocks?? A starlit boat ride across the widest point of the river in the silence of night gave all of us a moment to reflect - thank you, Tariri, for providing a gateway to something so unique and special - we will never forget the experience.
