This modest place is one of the few places to stay inside the boundary of Lake Mburo National Park an as such it deserves a greater share of the visiting public to the NP. Why go to the trouble of entering each day from outside when the animals you seek are often visible from the grounds of this lodge by the side of the lake without a drive of 15km to get there from the gate? The lodge is quite close to the dock from where you can take a launch trip on the lake to view Hippo, croc and many of the fascinating birds that make the lake their home. For birders African Finfoot are almost guaranteed and the enigmatic White-back Night Heron a frequent sighting along with Papyrus 'specials'. The cabins can be described as 'quirky' being constructed of concrete in the shape of 'logs of wood'. Each cottage is raised off the ground to form a small viewing platform outside before entering the living area via a secure door. Inside one comes to a small lobby where wet gear can be stored. Off the lobby are the large bathroom with shower, toilet and wash basin. All in good clean condition. Hot water on demand via an electric water heater. The other door leads to the spacious bedroom and living quarters. A large bed with nets dominate but there are tables and chairs too as well as ample racks and storage areas. All in all a very comfortable place. Meals are taken in the main 'lapa' building which also houses an upstairs seating/drinking area with excellent views of the grounds to the lake. The menu is on a board for your selection and it is usual to pre-order the next meal at the time of taking the present one. All dishes are prepared fresh and come to the table well presented and piping hot. Really good value and served by friendly welcoming staff. Altogether an excellent experience which makes it quite hard to understand why demand is not as high as it could be. Is it the fault of agents favouring more pricey places in return for higher commissions I wonder? If so resist and insist on staying here. You are unlikely to regret it. A word of caution. Due to the presence of wildlife it is unwise to wander around after dark so always ensure you have an escort at night to and from your cottage. You are there for the wildlife and there are lots, from Warthog and Mongoose to quite large antelope and even Hippo and Buffalo on occasion. We will be back as soon as we can.…
Just came back from our wonderful weekend in Arcadia Cottages in Lake Mburo! Since we arrived we felt in love with the PEOPLE, everybody so friendly and helpful. Sarah, the manager, helped us with the reservations for a Nature Walk and the boat ride in the lake. She even drove us to the places because we didn't have a car! The ROOM was rustic style, well decorated and super clean. Have a nice porch where we enjoyed the animals coming close. The Chef serves a big variety of FOOD every meal and it was delicious. The Chef’s inspirational salad was a hit!! We enjoyed our dinners from the upper porch of the restaurant, with a fantastic sunset in Lake Mburo. We are already miss the place but we’ll be back!
Arcadia cottages is an enjoyable peaceful and special place to stay. Its beauty leaves you with a full heart. You are in the middle of nature. The accommodation is in tune with the amazing nature that surrounds it. Lodges are confortable, spacious and has everything you would need and want. The food was delicious and the service a par with that of a 4 star hotel. The people who work here were super friendly and made me feel like family. You can not ask for a better place to stay. I can not recommend it enough. Beautiful in every way.
Located right in Lake Mburo national park. The cottages were one of the largest budget places we stayed in. There was a foyer with the bedroom to the left with two full sized beds with mosquito nets and a small table that sits two. On the right was the bathroom. Everything was clean and bright. Unfortunately you can’t see the lake from the cottages, but you can see it from the main lodge. I think I was spoiled by the great views from my room at the other places we stayed. The walk down to the lake is lovely and there are a couple shops there too. You can walk around alone during the day, but at night you need to have an armed escort at night due to hippos. There was one in the distance while I sat with the guards at their bonfire after dinner. I never felt in danger. The fish dinner with fried potatoes was excellent. The soup was also good. The service staff were friendly and one even shared her dreadlock ceramic bead with me. The bed unfortunately was just a box spring,so was very hard. The benefits of staying in the park was being able to have the opportunity to see animals for 2 days on your way in and the next day on your way out without having to pay for a second permit. But the hard bed made it very difficult to sleep, so I don’t know that I would stay again.…
We didn't stay here but had a great lunch here. Lasagne, curry, fish, chicken, everything was prepared fresh and very tasty. We had drinks at the topbalcony and dinner downstairs. Our ranger Moses took us here, thanks to him and the staff!
