The beach and surrounding landscapes are as beautiful as ever. However, what no one told us when booking is that the hotel had been sold to the Wyndham Alltra chain, and that much of the hotel and facilities were closed, much-needed renovations were already underway, and that not much was working, including many of the staff who were just coasting until their layoff. After 4 room changes, we were finally evacuated to another hotel. This place has so much potential. Hopefully, Wyndham can get it back to what it once was.

Just came back from 1 week with family and friend, this is a beautiful resort. We were in Block #5 which is about 1/2 way to beach and buffet and very quiet. Bonus, there were no mosquitos. Had fantastic time.

We have travelled all over the Caribbean and we keep coming back to Paradise! By far, the beach and natural surroundings are the best anywhere! It is an amazing location, a short taxi ride to Las Galeras a quaint village close to beautiful beaches to explore. The staff at the resort are beautiful, friendly, helpful Dominican people who do their best to help you. Management (especially Samuel) can’t do enough to solve any issues you may have. The food is always fresh and tasty and plentiful. The rooms are extremely comfortable and clean with housekeeping staff who will help with anything they can. This is the place to go if you are looking for a wonderful, peaceful, comfortable holiday! No hesitation on recommending Grand Paradise! We love it! And will continue to come for many years. Clare and Tom Paterson.

We stayed here with friends, 4 adults and 4 kids under 10 and under. We had a great time, the food was great and lots of variety. Meal times were a little inconvenient but there was always something to be found somewhere. Buffet was the best, and the tapanaki. The other restaurants were fine but not great. Unfortunately my daughter fell ill and had to be hospitalized. The care at the resort was excellent and the hospital was also very good. I did not love the response from resort management however. It lacked compassion for a young child who was very sick. I know this hotel will be undergoing renovations soon, but other than being a bit tired and weathered from storms it was still lovely and clean. It’s also very very quiet which is a bonus.

This was our 4-th trip to Grand Paradise Samana and each time it was progressively worse experience. First the positives: small ~350 rooms resort, very friendly and attentive service, nice beach, aquarium run by Dominga and her late husband. The bad (especially during our last trip in December, 2022): 1. No A/C in the room for the first 8 days, made the sleeping impossible 2. No hot water and no water pressure in the shower for the first 8 days, 3. sea weeds on the beach made the water almost not accessible 4. 2 existing beach Showers were not functional for our entire stay, but thanks to Aquarium Lady Dominga we were allowed us to use utility shower behind the boat rental cabin. 5. The beach restaurant was serving stone cold food, uneatable 6. there were 4 or 5 full garbage bags (of whatever) near the beach restaurant and nobody touched them for our 14 days stay 7. near the ponds and the beach restaurant there was eyes watering stench of raw sewage, we have to experience several times/ day to go to and from the beach, or go to the main restaurant for lunch or supper It is too bad the this place was so run down

My wife and I just returned to Canada from a one month stay at this resort. We have stayed 4 weeks here almost every year for the last ten. I read a lot of negative reviews and I feel these come from people who expected a 5 star resort and also feel somewhat entitled when in fact this is a 3 star; you get what you pay for. We had one concern and one only this year, the food selection was limited and repetitive. This because a hurricane in November destroyed most of the fruit crops an affected other agriculture, also there are still many shortages due to pandemic. Food quantity and variety is also limited and adjusted to the fact that there are very few guests this year. The food that is available is delicious and well prepared, my feeling is that if you go hungry it is your own fault and the complainers very likely do not eat as well at home..We continue to enjoy this home away from home for good reasons. It is very quiet, not overly fancy and is spread over 120 acres of natural beauty, the next closest resort is 40 minutes drive away. The beach is world class, beautiful shallow bay, clean clear water and about one quarter milelong. Acres of grassy areas to lounge and no shortage of chairs. In one month we never saw more than 50 people in the water at once. In one direction you can walk off resort beach and into the countryside on various roads, lanes and paths and be perfectly safe to enjoy the sea views and nature. Immediately at other end of resort beach a one minute walk then introduces you to a second beach, pristine in every way and not busy at any time, you can walk it all the way into the small village of Las Galeras, about one kilometre, where you will find many shops, food markets, bars, restaurants, bank etc and very friendly local people, and again, perfectly safe. Exchange your money at the bank for pesos, local currency works best, take your passport with you. The grounds of Grand Paradise are immaculately kept by outdoor staff and the pools are amazing. The shows at night are well done with some amazing dancers. I read a lot of complaints about staff being rude and not speaking English. One must remember you are in another country, the locals respect you a lot more if you at least try to learn some Spanish and they try their best to do English; we have established wonderful interactions with most staff and in return received satisfactory and sometimes excellent service. Upper level managers are humans and very open to speaking with guests if approached; they are problem solvers. General manager Henri Ulloa is very approachable, Accomodations Manager Samuel Vasquez will go out of his way to try and resolve any issues you may have and answers questions or provide information. An outstanding ambassador for the hotel and after many years as a repeat client, a great friend. Reception manager Samuel Guzman is one of the most helpful persons we have ever dealt with and is always highly visible not only in reception but throughout the resort. all three managers have excellent English language skills. Two other very helpful employees at reception front desk with good Language skills are Cristina and Santos. Other outstanding employees are pool bartender Luiz, beach bartender Henri, animation team members Judy Puello, Elena Santos, Olga Donastorg, Kaky and . In conclusion I suggest you give this hotel a chance, we will definitely return again next year for a month to one of the last undeveloped areas of the Dominican republic with its lack of crowds of people, exceptional sea views and beaches plus acres upon acres of natural beauty.

Just returned from Grand Paradise Samaná in Jan 2023. Had an absolute blast! Shout out to the staff, especially those at Select Club area in the buffet and the Select Club bar. Wonderful, helpful and always smiling! Our room was great. No concerns whatsoever. And our housekeeping staff did a great job every day! The food at the buffet, though limited likely due to less travellers to the resort as we continue to live in a pandemic, was always hot and delicious. Loved having different foods to try and lots of veggie options. The beach is gorgeous. White sand, warm temp, fish to see! The pools were also nice to head to on the hot days. Folks traveling here and giving it poor reviews with reasons that are, quite honestly, privilege coming through. The DR just went through a severe hurricane season on top of a global pandemic. Things take time to fix and clean up. I'd suggest doing more research before travelling because a lot of what people have put complaints about could have been avoided if they didn't travel to certain places. This resort holds a special place in my heart. It is one of my favourite places to visit with my partner and friends. And I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff, the setting and the experiences.

I have been to this resort 3 times; two prior to the pandemic. As with everything, I noticed differences that are to be expected with a world wide pandemic and supply shortage. Here are things you should know when considering this resort! Consider upgrading to the Select Club. Many of the complaints that I have seen are because people have expected to have high level amenities by paying the lowest prices that are available for this resort. With the select club you get wifi and safe included with the price. You also have a special section on the beach with drink service, a private bar area, upgraded room location, snack bar, made to order sandwiches at lunch, premium booze and unlimited a la carts (including tappanyaki, which would be additional cost). Select Club rooms are not that much more when you consider the benefits. The resort is beautiful. The landscaping and beach are beautiful. The staff work hard to maintain this location and it shows in the beautiful surrounding. Some of the walking paths are bumpy as the trees have grown into the path, but isn't that bad. There is not as much food variety available as there previously was. With less people travelling there isn't as much selection available. The food that they do have is good. They offer a variety of local foods that are delicious and worth trying. I do not eat meat, and I did not have any issues finding things to eat and enjoy. If you are traveling to this location and hoping for food you are familiar with, check you expectations and try something new! The staff are fabulous! If you are kind and friendly to them, they are lovely and friendly to you. We had staff that we connected with going out of their way to bring us things are our room. A common complaint that I have read is that the staff do not speak English. This may be true, but if you attempt to learn some basic Spanish while there, you can get by and they appreciate it. This resort does not cater to only English speaking travelers, but to people from all over the world! Work with the staff, don't be rude and engage with them. You will make some great connections. Some rooms are dates, but they are working to upgrade as they can. Hot water isn't always available or what you may be use to. WIFI is spotty - it is best at the lobby. If you need this amenity, you likely shouldn't travel so far from the cities. It is a far bus ride from the airport, but there is always something to look at and soak up. If you are looking for a beautiful location and to experience more of the local culture this place is for you.
