Nice premisses, great views. But rooms need a refurbishment. Bathroom is awfull... Furniture and bathroom equipment seem to be from the opening in 1993. Restaurant is average, breakfast a la carte is good. A 10 minutes walk to Playita.
We visited the hotel for lunch and dinner on Valentines Day, there is an extensive vegan menu (particularly in the evening). There are items on the main menu but there are also two further vegan menus to pick from. There is an extensive cocktail menu which I highly recommend indulging in. We were also lucky enough to be able to use the grounds. The setting is second to none, a colonial style house right on the seafront. There is a pool and small beach area to enjoy as well.
We have spent a week at Villa Serena and only wish it could have been a month. Many others have already spoken about the stunning ocean views, the perfect garden, the lovely breakfast room. Let me just say a few words about the little things that made our vacation a memorable one. Villa Serena offers daily yoga classes near the ocean in the morning and salsa/bachata lessons in the evening, free of charge. The massage therapist is so good that my husband and I had a massage everyday. Service is impeccable. Staff is kind and professional. And the location is just great, in between the village and the local beach. We will be back!
Our party rented three rooms last week for a family visit over, or escaping, Thanksgiving. Two parties have been to Villa Serena several times before, but for us, it was our first visit to the DR and Las Galeras. Right from arriving at the front door and seeing the gorgeous view, my expectations were high. After a couple of days in Santo Domingo, it was very relaxing to hear no cars, just the waves breaking on the shore. We were in Room 1 which according to one of our party had recently had a bathroom remodel. It was comfortable with plenty of hot water, really nice toiletries, but maybe two towels per person would be more convenient. The King size bed was very comfortable and we both slept like logs. The patio outside with two rocking chairs and a hammock made relaxing very easy. For security there is a room safe, for water and snacks there was a refrigerator and also an electric kettle to make hot drinks. The staff, especially the servers in the restaurant, were warm and friendly, as well as accommodating to our two very young grandchildren. Still it was helpful that we had two fluent Spanish speakers with us. My son in law and his mother smoothed the path for us all. A roof was nearly completed for the yoga pavilion, and one of us had a massage in the garden which was a success. The front desk is very helpful, whether it is beach towels, snorkeling masks and fins, exchanging currency, or obtaining a key to the gate to access the nearby beach which is nicer than the one by town (broken glass). That beach was definitely our favorite, more so than Playa Rincon which also had broken glass, vendors, and a steep slope. We had lunch at the beach restaurant there and so I only had ice cream for dinner at Villa Serena. Coconut and passion fruit were my two favorites.…
I was there for a short visit, but the hotel is beautiful, staff is incredibly nice. Views are amazing, truly a breathtaking and relaxing spot. Las galeras is out there but if you want to get away this is the spot. The drive from Santo Domingo is an experience, be patient and enjoy the ride. Got a room with AC..in the main building with a terrace looking right at the water. The food is great, don’t miss out on the smoothies!!. And among other thing take a walk to la playita. Hoping I return again but more days!
