Villa Serenity is where to go if you’re not into big resorts but you are into beautiful grounds by the sea, morning yoga, sipping fresh squeezed juice under the Caribbean sun, and want a break from whatever your daily grind is. The owners had a vision and the good taste to build the villa in traditional West Indies style. Rooms are airy and designed to catch sea breezes. Hammocks dangle on the balconies. It’s not hard to imagine yourself as well-to-do visitor the the Caribbean of the 17th or 18th century, albeit with a mini fridge and A/C. The small but lively town of Las Galeras is walking distance from the hotel. You can hire a boat to pick you up from the hotel and drop you off at Playa Rincon for a beach day.
What a magical experience at Villa Serena. The location was great, so quiet and far away from the tourists in other parts of the Dominican Republic. We had a free upgrade to our room which was such an unexpected surprise, the balcony overlooking the view was amazing. The pool was beautiful and overlooking the ocean, the restaurant had a great view also. We loved having access to use the kayaks, canoes and snorkels from the hotel. The hotel has a little beach to itself that you can use for swimming etc. It was only a short walk to Playita which is a bigger, beautiful beach, and we got directions from reception to take a short route, maybe 10 minutes. One highlight of this hotel is the yoga classes we took with Angelina every morning, she was incredible at getting us to relax and strengthen ourselves - we are not normally massive yoga people but these classes in the beautiful surroundings were too good to miss. There were always cute little dogs and cats around which was great because we are animal lovers. We will miss this place so much! …
Villa Serena certainly delivers on setting. It’s a magnificent building with stunning views through gardens to its own small sandy beach. There’s even a photogenically positioned desert island just off shore. It’s just a short walk to Playita, an even more perfect public beach. Las Galleras itself has plenty to offer (even though several places were closed, presumably still due to Covid). The French boulangerie Aux Delices de France was particularly welcome, with its excellent patisserie and perfect for picnic supplies. We’d booked a deluxe room with balcony & sea view. The room (Room 7) was a good size and the balcony with rocking chairs was very appealing. To be fair, we did specify a king sized bed but when the room has plenty of space why fix the bed right against the wall? Not great for the older gentleman who needs to get up in the night (other reviews have commented on this). When we asked if we could change rooms, we were initially told this wouldn’t be possible, but a call to Marina the manager resolved this and we moved to a more accessible room. There were a few more niggles which prevented 5*. We were notified by email the day before we arrived that our booking had been cancelled, which needless to say was a bit worrying at this stage of our holiday in a location with limited wi-fi. We had to call the hotel who confirmed that actually it hadn’t been. The rooms were comfortable but a bit staid in their decor and could do with some modernisation. And breakfasts were pretty ordinary - although the restaurant staff were sweet and served a charming fried egg (see pic).…
Once again, I was wonderfully surprised at how lovely Villa Serena is. Laid back, simple, but with everything you could want. Great restaurant, with a nice new selection of shakes and fresh juices. Stunning views in rooms with terraces, doors and windows that open out onto the ocean. Nice pool, great masseuse, and complimentary yoga class in the morning! A class that was kind to a rusty man turning 60! They arranged a boat for us to Playa Rincon, and had spot on recommendations for other restaurants in town. We will be back!
This place is perfect to relax,Las Galeras is 3 hours drive from SDQ and still untouched by those Punta Cana like gigantic resorts . We spent 6 days in early September 2021 at room N.1 which was ample, quiet and well appointed with a 4 posters real king size bed. The view from the balcony was amazing to the well kept gardens, warm pool and the sea. There was an small issue with their strong wifi specifically in our room but is was addressed immediately. Their small front beach is very nice and prefect to swim, also is possible to walk to La Playita which is bigger, beautiful and calm. very easy to make an excursion to Playa fronton by boat. The a la carte breakfast is delicious with plenty of tropical fruits, the food at the restaurant is good and well priced but the service sometimes is a bit slow, I think because they are still tuning up after the long covid period. Marina, the manager is mostly at the property and takes care of everything, she also is a fit woman that leads a morning Yoga Class at one gazebo next to the beach. The place is environmentally and pet friendly, we had the opportunity to enjoy the company of beautiful dogs. Surely we will come back.…
We enjoyed our stay and the hospitality even during a couple of rainy days. The rooms are large with fantastic views, the staff is welcoming and the restaurant is just great. It was so much better than a big hotel. I may be coming back there soon.
My stay at Villa Serena was a wonderful surprise: while being several times at Las Galeras before I did rediscover this village from a beautiful new perspective this time. Villa Serena combines a classical Caribbean architecture and elegance with a privileged location within 10 minutes of peaceful walk to one of the Samana’ best beaches for swimming – local’ favorite La Playita beach. The hotel itself shows signs of being a family property under good care at every step – from manicured lawns and garden to nice details like good room amenities and strong WiFi everywhere. But my personal favorites were strategically placed meditation benches and yoga pavilion. Visiting in a low season just after COVID-19 shutdown, I didn’t expect much from the restaurant on the property, but, again, I was nicely surprised – most of the elaborated 4 pages dinner menu was available and executed top notch with great waiters service and fresh ingredients – it will definitely be my favorite restaurant in Las Galeras now! There are lobby with the terrific ocean view, and the ocean view from my balcony was absolute stunning. All together – highly recommended!…
We went for 4 nights and stayed a 5th since it was so nice and beautiful, I mean, look at this paradise! We felt welcomed the minute we got there, had a lovely room with a view, staff was attentive, food was delicious and plenty. We worked as well as relaxed, and it was lovely from start to finish. Special thanks to Marina, Fernando and Nydia for their attentions! We'll be back next year!
Nice premisses, great views. But rooms need a refurbishment. Bathroom is awfull... Furniture and bathroom equipment seem to be from the opening in 1993. Restaurant is average, breakfast a la carte is good. A 10 minutes walk to Playita.
We visited the hotel for lunch and dinner on Valentines Day, there is an extensive vegan menu (particularly in the evening). There are items on the main menu but there are also two further vegan menus to pick from. There is an extensive cocktail menu which I highly recommend indulging in. We were also lucky enough to be able to use the grounds. The setting is second to none, a colonial style house right on the seafront. There is a pool and small beach area to enjoy as well.
