Very nice traditional hotel with most welcoming restaurant. Owner/chef cooks deliciously. Price/quality exemplary. Rooms are somewhat outdated, our bed 190 cm;) difficult to modernis without loosing the essence of NOT-being one if these unpersonal modern hangars. We loved it

We have known this lovely hotel and restaurant for years and for more than two owners incumbency. We have had some very good meals here when our children who are now grown up were young. The present owners are right not to have prettied the dining room. It is such a perfect room with its mirrors and old boiserie it...

Rooms were fine, but very small. Staff were helpful. Breakfast was simple (crossiants, yoghurts). Suitable for an overnight stay, but nothing more in my view. Not sure of how much the breakfast would cost if you had to buy it separately, but it was a bit simple.

This used to be our "Stop-over" place of choice when either arriving from or departing to Poole. It is an old characterful building in the quiet town of Valognes just a few miles from Cherbourg on the N13. With secure garage parking. Recently it appears to have changed hands and not for the better. The rooms and accompanying facilites could...

We stopped here for one night before catching the ferry to Poole. A fascinating 18th century building, complete with spiral tower staircase and panelled rooms. Free parking in a cavernous stone barn still with the rings and numbers for visitors' horses, sadly we just had a modern car. The accommodation is not luxurious, but more than adequate for one night....

This hotel is only 30 mins drive from Cherbourg port, making it perfect for a stop over if you are coming over on the late ferry. Parking was easy - we found a spot just outside the front of the hotel, and the lady at reception was very welcoming, even finding us a travel cot for our toddler at 11pm...

We wanted a one night stop close to Cherbourg and some DDay places and this seemed ideal. The room (21) as comfortable if a little basic. But the old world charm of the hotel makes up for this. From other reviews on here we thought dinner would be available. It wasn't but we were told about a nearby restaurant. A...

Came across the hotel late at night (after being let down with Laterooms booking elsewhere!) Despite language barrier, all staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and even prepared a much needed meal for us, on arrival Although a little basic, room was clean and comfortable, and all we needed for our overnight stopover.(great shower ensuite) A fascinating old building with...

We went on a road trip type holiday around west coast of France and sailed from Poole to Cherbourg. Having arrived in France after a long trip we didnt want to travel far on our first day so ended up in Valognes at the Grand Hotel, which is a beautiful old building. The hospitality was second to none and the...

Two nights here after two at Ferme la Raconniere, so a change of quality but much much cheaper. The hotel itself is pretty basic and needs a thorough redecoration but has a faded elegance. The restaurant is really good and a very pleasant surprise, with delicious Norman dishes and great puddings. Rooms are basic and tired but the ceilings are...
