We traveled to Heliconia with our kids ages 9 and 7 for winter break. The B&B was booked our first night in Malena so Heliconia offered to help book us at the clean and friendly (Spanish only) Hostal Iguana about a mile further down the road and across the road from a lovely local beach and locals-run turtle hatching area.... We spent 2 nights at Heliconia and liked it very much. The hosts are so nice and warm people. Really enjoyed breakfast and dinner. The setting of the place is perfect; easy to find, quick drive to beach, sourrounded by nature and animals. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and have AC. We will come back very soon and I... Hello Suza210, Thank you for writing a review. Rest assured that Lincoln's shirt is in safe hands and will be there when you return (is it the blue or the white one? Or both??). Tuna fishing is good at the moment, so we have fresh steaks! Best regards, More

Perfect place to admire nature and birds. Dinner and breakfast are fantastic, and owners very friendly, they will give you any advice you may require. The place is calm, perfectly equipped and well located for going to the beach.

My wife and I spent an all too brief stay at the Heliconia and can't wait to get back. We made a last minute booking with the Heliconia when our hotel in Mariato ran out of water. Luckily for us, there was a room available. Loes, one of the owners, was great! She prepared a vegetarian dinner to accommodate us.... More

The Heliconia B&B has well designed large, light filled rooms with A/C and ceiling fan, each with a sliding door to a terrace furnished with a sofa, table & hammock and a view of the exuberant garden path to the property's nature preserve trails. The hosts are multi lingual, super friendly and knowledgable, the food is tasty and well prepared,... More

When I found about this accommodation I was looking so much forward, so maybe fault is on my side. I will start with the house, it is nice and common space has a character, but we didn't like our room at all. It was already quite dark and it has darker wood furniture with dark bed covers so it does... More

Hello Barcatko, We are sorry that the room was not entirely to your liking and not clean enough for you. We will make sure that rooms will be better cleaned in the future. We usually ask guests how often they want to have their room cleaned, but must have forgotten in your case. We apologise for that oversight. We are... More

It was wonderful returning to Heliconia, to our virtual PanamaMama and Papa. The owners have become good friends. Their experiences have made them excellent hosts. Each speaks several languages (Spanish, Dutch, English among them). An extensive breakfast including homemade yogurt, bread, and bowl of mixed fresh fruits, and three-course dinners are available. Vegans, vegetarians and celiacs can be catered to,... More

Hello Lani R., Thanks for another glowing review. We were almost blushing when we read it. We do not run diving trips ourselves, but a PADI-certified dive-instructor has just set up business very close to us. And on his first outing with divers, they saw a 2 m hammerhead shark (harmless) near Isla Caleta (west tip of Cebaco), so it... More

When we started planning our 2-weeks-long honeymoon in Panama, I was happy to discover that Loes and Kees, Hotel Heliconia's owners, were (so to say) tour operators who could get us to the Coiba island for 2 nights - instead of the usual daytrip from Santa Catalina, which was not very appealing. What I didn't know was that, thanks to... More

Hello EvaF1, Thank you for writing a review. It was great having you as guests and we look forward to you coming back. We would suggest that you try to plan this in August or September, when the humpback whales are overwintering in Coiba waters. The females also give birth during this period and it is very impressive to see... More

I spent 3 lovely days and nights with Loes and Kees at HH just last week. I can't imagaine a more enjoyable time, thanks in large part to the efforts they make to be great hosts and naturalists. HH is located in the Western Azuero, an as-yet undiscovered part of Panama. It is VERY laid-back and hot, but the HH... More

Staying with Loes and Kees and taking their Coiba trip was the absolute highlight of our trip to Panama. While I believe it is possible to get there by bus, I highly recommend renting a vehicle- they do provide a great, secure place to park. Dear Tessa B, Thank you for writing such a glowing review. We are glad you enjoyed your trip so much. Kees is, of course, happy that you refer to primary and secondary forest ratherr than 'jungle'. We just heard that there are plans to improve the accommodation on Coiba, but these plans will probably not be realised before 2017. More
