Coconuts Beach Club Resort & Spa truly embodies all that is unique and wonderful about culturally-rich Samoa. Coconuts offers Samoan-inspired accommodations, including Samoa's only Over-the-Water Fales, and is ideally situated on Upolu's southern coast, boasting amazing sunrise and sunset views. There are no high rises, no phones, and no TV's. Perfectly located to explore all of the island's sites and experiences, Coconuts offers many of the facilities and services you would expect from a much larger resort, with the heart and soul of a small, intimate retreat. With a warm and friendly staff, and surrounded by a traditional village, Coconuts provides a true taste of Samoa.

My girlfriend and I intended to stay at Coconuts Beach Club for four nights. Tasi showed me around the property and took half an hour to chat. I really appreciated her hands-on concierge during the booking process. I showed a slightly cheaper price on booking.com and they honored it without question. I paid for the room in advance, and the staff was clear that it was non-refundable, which seemed totally fine at the time..

Two days before my arrival, following New Zealand's first confirmed case, the Samoan government started imposing flight restrictions to the already two dozen or so countries with Coronavirus. My girlfriend was unable to fly, and at the last minute, I booked a flight and left Samoa the morning before our reservation began.

I didn't have high expectations to get much or any money back given the non-refund policy, but Tasi worked with the international management team to refund almost all of my original reservation.

Traveling in the South Pacific often means disruptions from cyclones or other disasters, and not all properties are willing to see the bigger picture and put their customers first, so I appreciate that Coconuts Beach Club did the right and fair thing. Not all resorts or businesses are so flexible.

I'm saddened that we didn't get to stay here as the property is stunning and seem to have the nicest rooms in Samoa. I appreciate that they lessened some of the stress of my last minute travel disruptions.

Talofa! We are just as disappointed that you and your girlfriend had to involuntarily change your travel plans, and as a result could not stay with us. All this happening at the last minute certainly adds to the challenge. We hope that perhaps in the future, you will have another chance to visit beautiful Samoa, and stay with us. Fa'afetai lava

We stayed here with our UK family for a week.
To be honest, the resort is a little tired but the amazing staff and location more than compensate that. Our fale was right on the waters edge with crystal clear waters as far as the eye can see. We managed to see turtles on a couple of occasions. The pool and swim up bar made a great place to chill out. There was plenty of selection on the menu at the restaurant and we walked to the little burger place nearby a couple of times. It is also walking distance to Sinalei resort , just along the beach. The staff were all warm and friendly and we were made to feel most welcome from the first day. It is the wonderful staff that make Coconuts the place it is . This is not a flash pretentious resort, but rather one that feels homely and welcoming. We will be back ❤️
If we could give one tip for improvement, it would be to upgrade the arrival area. The Coconuts sign which is your very first impression, does not reflect what is behind the walls👏 Thank you for a wonderful relaxing time ❤️

Talofa lava to everyone! Thank you for choosing Coconuts as your Samoan home away from home. We are delighted that you had an excellent overall experience and holiday. We are constantly working to maintain and improve all of our facilities, the environment in Samoa requires that. But we are very glad that you were able to appreciate the many other aspects, and that you found the true appeal and uniqueness of what makes Coconuts what it is. We appreciate your suggestion regarding the look of the entrance, and the first impression that you had. We love to get useful feedback on everything, so this is of great assistance to us. We would be very honored to have you come back again, and all our staff look forward to that time. Fa'afetai lava for being our guests, for taking the time to write your review, and for sharing the lovely photos too. Tofa soifua!

Stayed during the festive season and had a great time. The location of the resort and in particular our overwater bungalow made the sunsets absolutely magical. Thank you Bryan, Tasi and team for giving us the “Returning Nuts”benefits. i love the location of the resort where it is not too far from anywhere you want to go in Upolu.

Talofa lava to both of you! We enjoyed having you stay with us again, it was our honor and pleasure. As you know, the sunsets during the spring and summer are the most beautiful, because the sun sets over the ocean rather than the land. We agree, besides being situated on a beautiful beach with a large lagoon, we are centrally located. So wherever you may want or need to go on the island, it's usually less than an hour away by car. All of our staff hope to see you again, and send alofa tele to both of you. Fa'afetai lava for being part of the Coconuts aiga, and for writing your kind review. Tofa soifua!

The location was nice but there's no point taking the over-the-water fales as you can't access the water directly from them. The beach was great but could be used at or near high tide only. We saved ourselves about $US1000 by NOT taking the expensive food and drinks package. There were the usual tropical experiences such as cockroaches in the bathroom at night but they were good runners. Our fale had a leaky roof which was only evident in heavy rain and the leak was perfectly positioned to drip onto our faces as we slept.

I was interested to read about the trauma experienced by Deepak D in his review. We had exactly the same experience. Our plane arrived about 6 a.m. and we hadn't slept. We tried to kill time in Apia and arrived at the resort at midday presuming that they'd simply give us early access, as most expensive resorts would. Instead they told us lies about how the room wasn't ready (the resort was less than half occupied) and made us wait in an airless room at 36 degrees and 100% humidity for two hours. It was an exercise in meanness on their part and the manager made it 100 times worse by trying to tell us they were doing us a favour. The experience was insensitive and grossly incompetent and marred our whole stay there. And when the manager responded to Deepak's review she continued to show that she just doesn't get it.

Did I enjoy my stay? Yes (apart from the first two hours which were hell on earth). Would I return? Never.

Talofa lava dear guests, thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. We appreciate your feedback, and we are very sorry that you weren't able to enjoy your entire stay. We understand that traveling can be stressful and exhausting, so not being able to access your room when you arrive can be frustrating. We always keep that in mind, whenever our guests arrive, we aim to provide maximum efficiency in making sure their room is clean and ready to go. There are many factors involved that determine when or how fast a room can be ready, and the occupancy level is but one of them. Even when a guest arrives before our check in time, we are often able to get them into their room sooner than 2:00 pm. Again, we apologize that you had to wait 2 hours before your room was ready, and we too wish you could have been in your room sooner. You chose to wait in our guest lounge (which is a popular place) but our guests can also relax in our restaurant & bar, or by the pool, etc. before they check in, or after they check out. While our Over Water Fales don't have steps or ladders going into the lagoon, they do provide a unique relaxing and calming sensation by being surrounded by the beautiful ocean. Sort of like being on a boat, but without the rocking motion. In any case, many of our past guests have had some of their best holidays ever while staying in one of these rooms. Our optional Meal Deal is not going to be the best choice for everyone. If you don't plan to eat 3 full meals a day, and if you don't normally enjoy beer & wine at lunch and dinner, then ordering a la carte is probably a better way to go. Our apologies for the leaky roof. Unfortunately maintenance issues seem to occur at the worst times, and in this instance, in the worst location. In order to remedy these occurrences as fast as possible, we do keep a full time maintenance crew employed. It saddens us to know your whole stay could have been much more pleasant if we had been able to accommodate you better upon your arrival. And we will take this as a opportunity to improve the process going forward. Tofa soifua!

A hallucinating place. Dirty rooms full of worms and animals of all kinds. But worst of all, for days the "corpses" of worms stayed there which means the cleanliness sucked. The staff speaks sloppy English and there is nothing, but really nothing to do but hang out in the pool (in a place that is supposed to be great) drinking alcohol. Everything is "stretched" with water -- shampoo, conditioner, soap, even cocktails. And you pay for everything, because nothing is included in your stay. One star only for the sea, beautiful, wonderful white beach, but no fish because there is no more reef. Other resorts much better but less advertised. I would never go back there in my life

Talofa dear guests, we are very disheartened to hear that you had such a disappointing experience during your stay. We are sorry that your room was not kept clean by our housekeeping staff. We will use your report as an example to instill a higher level of service. It is true that Coconuts has always been a place to get some rest and relaxation. And while we may not offer the most excitement or activities in Samoa, we do have some things to do (if one is so inclined). Such as; a village walking tour, day trips to various scenic places or activities on the island, and our once a week fiafia show. We don't understand your comment about stretching items with water. With regards to the toiletries, we don't modify them at all. Our guests receive the products in the rooms just as they came from the manufacturers. Obviously cocktails can be watered down, but that's not a practice that we promote. In fact we often hear that the drinks we serve are stronger than expected. Our large lagoon is protected from the sea by a very large reef. We think that you probably meant to say that there is a small amount of of live coral in the lagoon. This unfortunately has been the trend over many years. In spite of this, there are some fish that inhabit the lagoon, as well as many sea turtles. If someone is looking for better snorkeling sights, there are other places around the island. We thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your thoughts, as we are always interested in ways that we can improve the experience for all our guests. Tofa soifua!

Aside from the beautiful beach outside, SOME nice staff and outdoor facilities, if you want a gentrified, overpriced, rooms/ beds infested with bugs experience then Coconuts is for you. This inclusive ‘Samoan’ experience, includes clueless American owners and American PowerPoints in the room so bring your adaptor! By the way, check in also closes at 4:30pm, so if you arrive after that don’t expect any special treatment, and bring a torch because it’s so dark you can’t see anything. If you’re a Kiwi or any race that has history with Samoa, you’ll also get a ‘lesson’ on history and made to feel so uncomfortable you want to leave.

What was done to rectify this you ask? A free cocktail at the also fly infested bar. Get yourself a culturally insensitive cocktail- including ‘Maori Madness’ that’ll ‘make your tongue stick out!’ No thanks! But if you don’t buy yourself a drink, one of the staff members will corner you in the dark and try coerce you to buy them drinks and make you feel so unsafe whilst scolding you calling you names.

P.S. no need for your politically correct reply below Brian (thanks for brushing off all our concerns that we raised with you!) that’s if you can reply considering apparently no included WIFI for guests who paid over $1000 a night?

Saved for a trip of a life time for this experience and we are guttered. We most definitely will never be back.

Talofa dear guests, we thank you for staying with us and for leaving your review, which is very well written and in an entertaining style. We are indeed sorry and very disappointed that you had such a poor overall experience. You bring up many valid points, but some clarification on various items may benefit other travelers. All our rooms have both NZ and US types of power outlets. In cases where the desired power point access is not convenient, we have extension cords and plug adapters available for our guests on request. Your mention of reception closing at 4:30 pm is helpful. Many guests have no choice on what time they arrive, so we have our night watchmen available, who can assist them get to their rooms after our reception staff have left for the day. They remain available to help guests until our regular staff return to work at 8:30 am. The guest can then check in on the following morning. If any guests have the option to arrive before 4:30 pm, that would be advisable. Keeping a torch on hand can be handy, as it does get dark in Samoa at night. Our overall lighting scheme at Coconuts has been designed to avoid harsh bright lights, so it may be darker than what most are used to. Since many people normally travel with a mobile phone, using the led light on the phone can help light the way. We have never had anyone point out that the name or description of a cocktail was culturally insensitive. But even as a clueless American, I can now see how someone might be offended by that. We will now consider making some revisions to our drinks menu. On a more serious note, we are truly sorry that a couple of our staff members acted inappropriately, and that their words or behavior caused you to feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or unwelcome. It is also unfortunate that; after I listened to your reports about these situations, asked some questions to get a full understanding, expressed that I was sorry to hear what happened and that it was not acceptable, that we would do something about it, immediately thereafter communicated the issues with our general manager, and actions were taken the next day, you consider this was brushing off all your concerns. This is not a politically correct reply, just a statement of facts. Tofa soifua

The resort has lots of potential with beautiful beach but has passed its prime. Rooms are in a need of maintenance, many things are broken (sliding doors, missing knobs on furniture, ripped cushion covers etc..). The mini fridge in one of the fales was absolutely disgusting (yellow, missing shelves and looked like from 70s). Air con in this fale didn't work properly (didn't cool at all). For the price that you are paying in this resort, you would expect the free bottled water every day. The response from the staff was that we have received a welcome drink. Continental breakfast was inadequate. There was no choice of warm meal, only two slices of the dry toast, with few slivers of fruit plus below average coffee or one dcl of juice. All and all, we would probably not return.

Talofa dear guests, we are very sorry that there were many maintenance items that were not up to standard in your room, and we understand how that can affect your overall experience. We appreciate your feedback which helps us to make needed improvements. We don't provide free bottled water because all the water in our rooms is filtered and treated onsite. Since it is safe to drink, we encourage our guests to reuse and refill their own bottles, in an effort to minimize plastic waste. We are disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy the free continental breakfast that we provide. A continental breakfast by definition does not normally include cooked or warm meals. Fortunately you can order many delicious cooked breakfast items from our menu, but they are not included for free. Fa'afetai for taking the time to write your review and share your thoughts.

Me and my partner had stayed in the bungalows room at coconuts resort, which was extremely pricey, but had the most beautiful views for both day & night. We got to experience the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises from our bed, as well as seeing the full moon during the night as well.

The bungalows were a little walk from the restaurant, so If youre thinking of wearing your best shoes/ heels to dinner, don't. It's quite a trek from the room through the sand, even a walk from the smaller rooms go through the sand, a walk from the villa to restaurant/ front desk provides a paved path tho. Not complaining, i quite liked the scenic walk :))

The food was also quite pricey especially the dinner menu. Our dinner honestly just tasted cheap/ defrosted almost. We had quite a variety of dinner options from the steak, to the snails, chicken and seafood and it just didn't really stand out for me, but the deserts were delicious. Lunch was pretty decent, & the paniolo breakfast was delicious.

The performances were honestly the most in tune with the Samoan culture that I've ever seen. No speakers, no pre recorded voices, no microphones. Just song and dance through voice and movement. It was beautiful, as well as the siva afi. I've seen many performances at many resorts in samoa and theyre all somewhat westernised, but coconuts resort had portrayed the Samoan culture, in their own beautiful way. Speaking both in Samoan and English tongue, & including all guests to take part in the performance that night.

We didn't really take part in the activities available other than snorkeling, but there was plenty there presented to us to choose from, from tours, to boat rides, kayaks, swimming with turtles etc. We mostly just enjoyed the view and warm sun most days.

In conclusion, I'd most definitely recommend the bungalows to couples, the resort and views was absolutely stunning. It is on the pricey side but was most def worth it. Room comes with aircon, spacious fridge, tea and coffee station, very spacious bathroom sink area, beautiful deck outside with chairs and table, and more.

Thank you coconuts resort for having us, will most def come again !

Absolutely amazing, love this place ♥️
The staff are totally dedicated to giving you the best experience possible.
We travelled with 2 adults and a 10 year old, the staff were amazing with all of us remembering our names and being so accommodating to us and loved our son to bits.
This was my second stay at Coconuts, with the first being back in 2011, both visits were amazing.
I love the fact that you have little geckos visiting you in your room, I love that there are no tvs, I love that it is so relaxed, chilled out and you just feel so much love from the staff.
Definitely take the meal deal! It is SO worth it. The food at the restaurant is top class and the staff are more than happy to pack your lunch when you head out for the day on your own or on one of their super tours!
The tours are well priced and the guides are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
I highly recommend going to Coconuts and chilling out as it truly is one of the most beautiful places on earth ♥️

We have just returned from 3 nights in a beachfront fale and 6 nights in an overwater fale at Coconuts which was fantastic. We dined a la carte for all our meals in the beautiful beachfront restaurant where all the staff were lovely and the new staff eager to learn. A must is Coconuts Fia Fia night put on by Samoans from the local village. We saw turtles every day out front and also under our overwater fale. The beach to the far side of the overwater fales was our favourite place for walking and swimming and we would snorkel from there to outside the restaurant. There isn't a lot of coral out front but you can be taken out towards the reef to see more fish or enquire about the tours which offer snorkelling with clams etc
The spa is in a beautiful setting and I enjoyed a couple of relaxing treatments there with the lovely ladies
The lighting at night can be dim so do use your phone light or take a small torch, also good to use at the restaurant for the menu when outside. Also ask for an umbrella to keep in the room in case of unexpected heavy showers to get to the restaurant area
A big thank you to Brian and all his amazing staff and we will be back again to enjoy your beautiful place

I was recently informed that flights into Samoa arrive at 3am - is that correct
Answer from Brian R

Talofa Carolyn, It depends on the airline and route, but many flights do arrive in Samoa early in the morning. We can provide airport transfers at all hours, so ground transportation is not a problem. We do advise our guests arriving on early morning flights to consider pre booking their room for the night before they arrive, so you can go straight to your room when you get to Coconuts (instead of waiting for our normal check in time of 14:00). Thank you.

Talofa, thank you for your message. Yes I'm very sorry, our policy regarding children is that they must be at least 3 years or older to stay with us. It is possible that a website like Expedia may not be able to properly handle or restrict bookings that are in conflict with our policies or facilities. Every property is unique in some ways, and since most of the online travel websites take a standard cookie cutter approach to all the hotels, there is likely something that doesn't fit their mold. In general, it's better to deal and book directly with any hotels, so as to avoid possible surprises when you arrive, and also because direct communication can be a benefit. Regards, Brian

Regarding our menu prices, they are very comparable to what you will find at other resorts in Samoa. That said, they may be a bit of a stretch for those travelers who are on a tight budget. My suggestion to you, since you said you really like to enjoy eating and drinking while on holiday, would be to consider getting our Meal Deal. This includes full cooked breakfast, lunch, 3 course dinner, and beer & wine at lunch and dinner for a reasonable price. In addition, by having a fixed cost per day, you don't have to keep tally of how much each meal is going to cost you, just order whatever dishes you like off our regular menu. Hope this helps, fa'afetai lava.
