My husband was really in shock when the old lady ahead of him in line was denied check in because the time was 14:55, not 15:00. In other word 5 minutes!!! That really was a shame. Two minutes later my husband was able to check in, by that time the lady had obediently gone to sit down and wait.
So to some positive impressions: The building itself is very impressive. It’s very peaceful and it’s like a fairytale with the horses and the green fields around.
The staff at the bar-particularly one young guy was really service minded. He was actually the one sweet person in the whole hotel that was outstanding.
Speaking of the bar- the building and decor is really nice but whoever was in charge of furnishings in the bar should find a new job. Everything looks like it’s thrown in there or that it is a furniture store where they try to sell you chairs. Furniture should be grouped together creating an intimate atmosphere because that’s what the room deserves. Get rid of 1/4 of the chairs there and it will be more inviting.
Disappointed with our room that was in a building away from the castle. Room was very small. Glad we only stayed one night.
Bathroom shower was built in a way causing water all over the floor. Water temperature was constantly changing and suddenly scolding. Good stuff was the thick fluffy towels and lovely smelling soap. No body lotion.
There is a gym on the premises. Believe it or not- it costs 95 DKK pr person pr hour to use for hotel guests!! This place sure knows how to milk your money. Also if you want a cappuccino for breakfast there is a charge.
Breakfast was ok. Nothing special but the basic stuff. On the positive side- the orange juice was really good. Freshly squeezed and not watered out.
We did not eat at the hotel due to the menu and prices and went 10 min by car down to the harbor instead. We did not regret that at all.
We had a good night sleep but someone next door was up at 5 making a lot of noise so with lack of insulation we woke up too.
All in all 3 stars for the surroundings and for the great guy in the bar. Would we come back? Nah, I don’t think so.

We were "lucky" that the main building's roof was being renovated, so there were fewer guests. The room we got was spacious and furnished with antique comfortable furniture and a direct exit to the park. The bed was big and comfortable, while the bathroom was quite small. The towels were enormous and heavy. Breakfast is too basic for a five-star hotel, with no fish for guests who don't eat meat and a quite limited choice of bread. The service is excellent and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The positive: The surroundings are delicious and the facilities ooze high quality. Especially in the garden hall, you almost feel like royalty. The food was of high quality and professionally presented, but French cuisine is not quite aligned with our taste buds. The wine was quite excellent, but you also pay for that. The rooms are delicious and the quality is high.
Suggestions for improvement: - the website: the place clearly wants to be very exclusive, but the website is incredibly messy and it is too difficult to get a quick overview of the offers - it should be much simpler if much tighter. If we hadn't had a gift card, the website would have scared me away. Mam should focus on selling a total experience, and then just make it easy - which the price suggests, after all.
- concept and culture: by far the biggest turn-off for the place is an almost embarrassing upselling culture. It was not far from a Turkish bazaar, which clashes violently with the exclusivity that the price implies. The price adds up to an exclusive experience where you can feel almost royal in royal surroundings, but it all falls apart when you have to pay 100 kroner for water for the wine menu (the stay costs 5,000!). It's so embarrassing that it almost ruined the experience for us. So for the hell of it, put the 100 kroner on the package and drop the extra expenses.
We tried to reverse the above with the receptionist at checkout, but she didn't seem interested in hearing about people's experiences. She simply explained that most people agreed that water cost money when it did not come from the tap.
So like I said, nice place but they can't live up to what they are trying to sell.

Definitely not a Castle. I wouldn't recommend this place for holiday travelers as this is clearly a hotel used for business conferences or large corporate travel. There are hardly any rooms in the manor house, most rooms are in the annex-- former horse stables. Everything starts early-- 7-9 am for breakfast and dinner ends around 9pm with bar closing at 10pm. Again, work hours. At the time, our safe was broken, shower drained was clogged, and no mini bar. They monatize all amenities and there was barely any hospitality. We were lucky to have rented a car, so we did not have to spend a lot of time there.

Nice experience. We had a spot deal for an overnight stay on a weekday with spa and dinner in the bistro, which we upgraded to arrival on Friday and dinner in the restaurant. It was a lovely experience. Nice room in a building next to the castle. I had booked a massage before we went to the spa and it was very satisfying. The spa is small and nothing special, but we had it to ourselves and it was a nice quiet and relaxing. The dinner was delicious and so was the selected wine menu. We had coffee and drinks in the bar upstairs. The breakfast the next day was also impeccable. We were met all the way by very friendly and service-minded staff. And I'm glad we had this experience, because my recent experiences before this one have not been particularly positive...

If you have any business in the area or if you are a couple or group looking for romantic and royal surroundings, I can recommend this unique place. A castle like manor, antique interior and a very nice staff make the stay a pleasant experience. I stayed in the annex/guesthouse building, which have comfy rooms and from a "secret" passage way in the basement there is direct access to spa facilities and the main building where you will have a quality breakfast. I have not felt this exclusive or slept so well in a long time.

We so wanted this hotel to be a good experience for our anniversary. While the location is exquisite, surly front desk staff doing double duty as "concierge" left us without travel support, and so very disappointed. There are so many wonderful hotel and castle options in Denmark staffed by competent hospitality professionals, try to avoid Kokkedal Castle to keep your happiness level high.

Children are not allowed on the restaurant for dinner even when staying at the hotel. Told the only option for families with children was to eat in the room. Then to make the experience even worse were told that they were not even sure there was any food available to serve in the room. All this while we mentioned the family was there to celebrate a family birthday. There was no information about children not being allowed in the booking confirmation. Rude responses, no apologies and simply stubborn attitude that this is how they do it.
A simply horrible hotel and restaurant experience. Avoid this hotel and restaurant if you are traveling with children. We travel a lot and know there are plenty of other hotels and restaurants that allow children, including 5-star and Michelin starred ones.

After having spent ten days and nights at fabulous hotels, castles, and restaurants in Sweden, it was a HUGE disappointment to come to Kokkedal Castle outside of Copenhagen.
Upon our arrival, the two girls behind the reception hardly looked up at us, and did nothing to smile or make us feel welcomed.
They gave us room keys with the wrong guest name on the booklet. When we, halfway to our room in a different building discovered this, and went back. They gave us a booklet with our name on it, but after walking back once agyto our room, the electronic keys did not work. A third trip back to the reception was needed in order to enter our room.
One light bulb was not working in the tiny bathroom, making it almost impossible to shave. The insulation from the guest room to the outside corridor was non-existent. We could hear every single word of what other guests were saying, as they passed outside our room. The door handle to the terrasse outside was loose and there was no room to put our toiletries in the undersized bathroom.
After dinner, we felt like ending the evening with a bottle of red on their verandah. The bar man closed the bar 15 minutes before closing time. We kindly declined buying wines from between 1000 and 3000 DKK, and settled for a Spanish wine for "only" 900 DKK. When checking the wine upon drinking it at ViVino, the app, we found out that its purchase price was 8,99 €, a mark-up of 100 times. Just outrageous.
No, never again. Your staff does not seem motivated or even educated in receiving and caring for guess. Adding the high prices to the equation, this is a place that must be avoided. Too bad, on a beautiful castle in a beautiful setting, but there are limits to bad service and they have been not only met, but exceeded.
