I am truly shocked by some of the less than stellar reviews of this Ryokan. Obviously everyone has their own opinions and experiences, but this was certainly one of my best and my opinion is that you would be crazy to miss this beautiful spot. While most of the foreign tourists travel to Hakone, the town of Shuzen-ji is unbelievable...

This Japanese inn is located in the small spa town of Shuzenji in the middle of the Izu peninsula. It's easy to get to (about 2.5 hours by train south of Tokyo and then an about ten minute cab ride from the station). The inn is traditionally and tastefully decorated. Our room had a private onsen - outside bath. As...

I was here with my husband and the plan was to spend two nights in this ryokan. Unfortunately after few hours we decided to go away the day after. So we lost one night (and the place is very very expensive). The Ryokan is beautiful but touristic. Food is excellent. The suite we had was dark, too much dark. Almost...

Yagyu-no-Sho is a wonderful place to stay. So quiet and serene you could easily believe you're the only guests. We stayed in the Yuzuki room with a private onsen which was stunning. The room opens onto a little stream and secluded terrace and the onsen is a dream. We were looked after incredibly well by our room attendant from arrival...

We stayed a night in this beautiful ryokan. We booked a room with private onsen, with the main room surrounded by the garden. Amazing. Loved waking up with the shadows of the bamboos behind the paper screens. The Kaiseki dinner and the breakfast were very good. The shared onsens are surrounded by the nice garden. Although just at the exit...

I must say I was a little nervous that this ryokan would live up to my expectations given how much a single night was. When I was quoted the rate for our "Meigetsu" room, I was horrified. Fortunately, the stay was every bit as fabulous as I had hoped. Food was amazing and spectacularly well presented in our room. Breakfast...

We stayed in this beautiful ryokan during our anniversary trip to Japan, as a stop-over between Kyoto and Tokyo. We should have stayed longer! This was probably the best travel experience for both me and my husband and we have travelled quite a bit. First thing to know about ryokans, Japanese inns, is that they are very traditional and there...

We go to Tokyo and Kyoto every year, and always try to slip a ryokan retreat into our itinerary, because every one is so unique. We stayed at Gora Kadan last year and Hakuunsou the year before. Let's just say that Yagyu no sho is a league above these two. Yagyu no sho managed to deliver an authentic experience without...

This is such a private place. It is meant for the mind to have a good rest. If travellers are looking for lots of activities or attractions around an authentic Japanese Ryokan, then perhaps another Ryokan might have more to offer. The lady director speaks beautiful English and assigned us an English speaking "housekeeper", who served us all our meals...
