Chose this hotel outisde the town of Phimai located by a river with individual cabins. The German owner is a very pleasant person giving you tips where to eat as the guest house only serve breakfast. The Phimai historical park is a mere 5 minutes ride from Moon River Resort.

Resort is maybe a too pretentious name for this simple place of small bungalows along the river. In itself the place is quiet, but I have been told that sometimes loud music from the surrounding area can be disturbing. When we were there this was not the case. We had half of an 800 baht bungalow with a large room and large bathroom. There was a fridge and a flatscreen. Also A/C, although the remote performed poorly. So far so good for all this until I laid myself down on the bed. I cannot remember having had a bed this hard. I like firm, but this mattress did not give way for one millimeter. So I used the cover to sleep on, which conflicted with a pleasant temperature. All in all a night not to forget and to get up more tired than when going to bed.
The breakfast was simple but adequate, with toast, an egg, fruit and instant coffee. Unless the beds change I would not go again.

If you are looking for relax, this is the place.
We loved it!
Bed is very confortable, all the staff is kind and helpful.
Easy to reach with the bus coming from Kirat, they also provide bicicles to ride in town city centre. Anyway it is not far to reach by walking.

An enchanting place. The owner is really very kind and helped me a lot in the days I stayed.
Located on the river bank, it has basic but spacious bungalows. It is very close to the Phimai Historical Park and offers bicycles to get around the town.
Recommended for those who are not looking for many frills, but a true and touching experience in the heart of Thailand.

Found this place on the internet and went there in a group of 6 for new year's eve, taking 3 bungalows at the far end of the row, situated under the massive, old tree overlooking the river/lagoon. I think each room was 600 Baht/night. There was parking between each bungalow, very convenient to unload our things into the rooms. Being "winter", the weather was fine and we spent the whole night outside at the big wooden table overlooking the river. Wifi signal was good even way out at the end, so the wives were happy with their phones and Ipads, and I was able to play Youtube music vids from my laptop.
A Thai man, I presume the owner or manager, came down that evening, shared some of his BBQ and spoke with us for a while. Very friendly. Either his wife or a staff member came out and asked for our dinner requests, and brought it all out to us; which was great as we were enjoying the pleasant environment so much that none of us felt like leaving to go find dinner in town. I'm not sure if they prepared it or got some or all from an outside vendor, but it was good.
The rooms were clean and everything worked as it should. Pleasantly surprised that the bed mattress was well padded and comfortable, which is usually NOT the case at a resort/hotel in this price range. There was "that smell" coming up out of the shower drain in the bathroom, which can and does happen with Thai plumbing, so we closed the door and left the exhaust fan on; which meant the light was on all night, but it wasn't a problem as we fell right to sleep in the comfortable bed.
Nice place, will return again and recommend it to others.

Moon River Resort Phimai
It is a beautiful and peaceful place. The light is magical throughout the day and a slight breeze can always be found if it gets on the warm side. But if a breeze is not to be found, all of the delightful cottages at Moon River are air-conditioned!
This resort was built and is run by a Thai-German couple, Chin and Christian. Piece by piece over recent years, they have managed to transform this area into a simply wonderful place to stay. Breakfasts are creative and can accommodate a long list of preferences - time allowing that is. A soft-spoken team of owners and staff add to an all together heart-warming experience.
Phimai is one of the final points of the ancient Khmer Highway and substantial remains within walking distance of Moon River are an absolute MUST! Street markets take place regularly in the center of Phimai, also within close walking distance of the resort, where fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and fish and handcrafted items can be found and purchased. Local music, dance and much color enhance all of this.
Throughout the year various festivals take place. Much color, liveliness and love for life make this entire experience one likely to be amongst one of your most exuberant. And, the Thai way of hosting is without a doubt a school many other cultures could take some hints from. So that too, adds to what I feel should possibly be, the 6th star!
Highly recommend to singles, couples and families.
PS If your start aching from walks, a Thai Massage is also highly recommended. Just ask Chin.

What a find. Small bungalow accomodation right on the Moon River. Attached bath, fridge, 2 bottles of water daily, room serviced daily, own private verandah- great for a cold beer in the afternoon. So peaceful. You couldn't find nicer owners. While we didn't mind the 15 minute walk into town for lunch/dinner/snacks, I suppose some people would prefer to be closer to restaurants. Personally, we loved the laid back feeling. Loved Phi Mai as well, though we had to leave just as the festival was taking off. We'll be back.

We arrived at 9 pm so didn't see a lot but just the room that was very nice.Wooden bungalow with a very good bed, fan, fridge and a very clean bathroom. In the morning the river made our day and there is also a nice path on it.Is very close to the town but to go around is perfect to rent a push bike simply in the hotel.Every day they give you clean towel and bottle of water. You can have a nice breakfast too.The owners are really nice and helpfull. If you go for just a coupple of days you would like to stay longer!

The resort is located by a lake, the atmosphere is super nice in the evening. We stayed in a bungalow, with an attached terrace. The bungalow was simple, but it's a very good bargain for the price. Air-conditioning and fridge were working well. You can reach phimai by walk, the banyan tree, the temple, the night market (food there is good, you can bring to your terrace, the resort will propose dining sets). The owner was really nice and bring us to Prasat Phnom Rung area for a reasonable price. Only the breakfast was disappointing.

For peace and quiet this is IT, I didn't realise doing absolutely nothing could be so nice. Don't go looking for anything fast or hectic it isn't here, thankfully!
Set just off a main road but more than enough to eliminate traffic noise.
Staff so nice and very helpful, can't thank them enough.
