This is a lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. It is unique in this country being the only university running a hotel with students training in the hospitality industry. The food was very good, well prepared and served well. The rooms vary from old style in the original buil

Had a very nice one night stay here for work. Old style architecture, luxurious and comfortable decor, and great food at the brasserie. Would highly recommend for family or romantic stays, or for holding events as well.

I'm due to go here at end of May for the weekend and trying to decide whether to book afternoon tea or have lunch off the brasserie menu. Is afternoon tea good and worth the money?
Like the majority of hotels, eating here in my opinion is pricey. However, Wivenhoe has no real alternatives, so you’re probably looking at a drive into Colchester, so You’re probably better off giving the hotel a go!£

Thinking of getting a room or suite in the main building. Is it a long walk to where breakfast is served?
Not really, down to the ground floor, along a short corridor and you’re there. Stayed in The Constable Suite which I can highly recommend Enjoy!!

Where do you dine for breakfast and dinner - is it in the old building?
All the dining areas are directly linked to or in the main old building, there’s a lovely breakfast room and lounge, and then there’s the modern brasserie downstairs attached to the back

Do all of the rooms have the fancy coffee machines?
The one I stayed in did. My wife has stayed there before and hers did so I anticipate that they all do. It was easy to use by the way.

Are there clothes washing and drying facilities please - or available at what cost and how to arrange - as we are on a round world trip?
I think by arrangement if not your on the park of Uni of Essex campus (4 mins walk) and there’s a launderette there 😊
