we spent two nights in Kaliuda, because we came as a group of backpacker, at the first we want to booked in Sadlewood hotel, but it was canceled by themself. So we have no choice, arrive in late nght in Waingapu. At first night, we was shocked because we got a very bad bed. It was so hard .. i have a backache all night. Thanks to my friend who gave me his towel to cover that bed. In the morning, funny thing is, we have to give all the keys to the owner, i dont know whats the reason, we payed for 2 days already. I think i wont come again to this hotel

We stayed at this place three times. Hotel has a good location, close to the centrum, and couple nice restaurants, but it s quiet. They offer different rooms for different prices, we choose one that cost 275 per night and was with good ac. The Place is clean and nice, staff friendly and helpful, owner always helped us with transportations (call the bus that picked us up at the hotel). We would stayed there again.

I spent few nights at Hotel Kaliuda before escaping to Sandlewood. I admit I had a bad time there, especially for the attitude of the owner toward us and the daughters working there. Instead of hospitality I found a military feeling. At the moment the conditions of the place are bad because a new building with 24 rooms is under construction. The bad in one of the old rooms is very old and painful, the only toilet available is in the building under construction and the entire area is infested with mosquitos and cockroaches. The owner rent us one of his motorbikes and every night sends one of his daughter to ask for the key which he will give us back only in the morning. It feels like being under his authority. The gates close at 10pm, which is ok in a place like Sumba but there's no way to get out in case of need of an apoteke for example. The owner told me so only after I paid for the entire stay. If we were coming back at 8pm after dinner the door between the reception and the rooms was locked down with no words by one of the daughters as well as the gate. No way of getting out for a bottle of water. Very unpleasant. Then, I don't want to advocate for animal rights in Indonesia, but the family is keeping a puppy chained at a stairs, he is injured by the chain, living in its own poo. Very sad and not understandable how a puppy could be harmful. All in all I wouldn't recommend it for the unpleasant atmosphere. Maybe the rooms will be comfortable when they will be ready. In front of the hotel there's a dark water drainage which is possibly the reason of all these insects.
