Detailed Reviews
I spent one night with friends and I must admit Hotel Patria Trutnov is not bad hotel. But from the begining - to find this hotel was not so easy for me as I thought. All green trees completely covered the hotel and I went twice around there before I finally found the hotel and parking lot. Navigation should be better. Parking lot in front of hotel is large but not secured. I didn't have good feel to left there car. The hotel is panel house. Entrance and hall is not nice and reception is strange. But receptionist was kind.
The room was not bad - you can see here that provider try to invest to the property and renovate it. Furniture was new. But what I don't know if there are 2 different categories in the hotel - my friends had worse room then me. Overall my bed was not bad and I could sleep here relatively well. Only one disadvantage - it was too dry air in the room. The bathroom was nice and newly decorated.
Enviroment around the hotel and view from my room was nice. As advantage I see the hotel location. Town center was accesible also on foot - maybe 10-15 minutes - pleasant walk around the river.
Next advantage for me is bar in underground. It was opened to the deep night and we spent here nice night with friends. It is not nice decorated but it was cheap and pleasant stay here. All the hotel offers good value for money. It is 3* hotel with great prices.
The cusine was average. Overall I feel that this hotel is mainly suitable for business stay or to stay one night during the longer journey. It can offer value for money. I don't have any problem to stay here again.

Patria is an old fashion hotel. Staff was very friendly, breakfast good by Czech parameters and room was big a comfortable enough.
TV was so tiny, it was difficult to watch and unfortunately my room was the last on the corridor, so I had no wi-fi coverage did't (except in the bathroom).
Hotel is about 10 minutes walk from central square.
Considering the price around 35 euros/night for one person I think it would be hard to ask for more

This slightly delapidated hotel is probably worthy of three stars. Typical no-frills Czech with two rock hard (good for my back) single mattresses making a "double" bed, a tiny twelve inch TV, no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, curtains which do not block out the sun (get a room facing west of you want to sleep in) and an American Pit Bull helping the staff on reception. My bathroom was in good condition and the shower worked well.
At least they had non-smoking floors. And friendly reception staff (even the dog).
"High speed" internet on floor ten was so slow it may as well not exist. I got good reception from floor 6 if I sat near the elevator. But it was free. Gratis.
Location:
Not far from the centre of town, very close to a waterslide swimming park, tennis courts and football grounds. It was very quiet at night.
Breakfast:
Really very uninspiring. A selection of white breads, cheese, meat, museli, yoghurt and huge bowls of jam. That's it.
Restaurant:
Bless 'em, they try to make good food, and they almost succeed. Selections include:
Salads with little or no dressing.
A great big hot camembert smothered in cranberry sauce with spray-can whipped cream on the side.
Lots of meat dishes (pork neck, beef with ham and eggs, beef with bacon, pork steak, pork chop, and all of the above in the mixed grill, for those who have not heard of cholesterol).
"Salmon steak with ginger bitter" which I tried - it was a good piece of salmon, well seasoned yet very oily from being fried.
Some uninspired "vegetarian" dishes to annoy the veggies in your group, such as fried cheese, fried camembert (I thought that was cheese too), penne with mushrooms and cheese (it didn't look good).
A variety of side dishes including fries, potato rosti, curry potatoes, potato pancakes and boiled potatoes.
If "Meat and Potatoes" describes your eating style, you are gonna love it here!
Service was very good from a delightful waiter whose attempts at English were to be applauded.
Gym:
The gym is a tiny little space with a few weight training machines, a cycle machine and some kind of step-crosstrainers. The best feature is the table-tennis table which got a lot of use from Clownshoes.
Pool/sauna:
I didn't see a pool, but there is a huge waterslide pool complex (outdoor) nearby. A colleague informed me that the sauna was teriffic.
Tennis court:
The hotel has it's own outdoor tennis court, with a plastic surface. Fences and net all in good condition. They will lend you four racquets (one had it's strings in poor repair but was playable, after a fashion) and balls. All free!
I'd stay there again, for the firm mattress, tennis court, friendly staff, and nothing much else.

+1
We were accomodated in the 3rd floor for 5 nights in 2 rooms with our group. Both rooms were not renovated, the bathrooms were disgusting, so that we needed to buy slippers just to take a shower.
One of the rooms had brown stains in the carpet, the walls and soon we found out what they were from when we killed a cockroach that was walking on the carpet. The hotel clerk just shrug her shoulders at our problem and told "we can send someone to kill the cockroach" - When our travel agency asked them to look in to it, they went and made the beds in one of the rooms, and called that an "extra cleaning" - Nothing else was done.
I have never seen such run down rooms in my life and I have lived in some shady hostels in my travels. Not even near the 3 stars that were advertised.
Staff knew a bit of english but the manager couple didn't speak english at all. They also looked annoyed when they were prompted about the problems with the rooms. Our room was not cleaned even once during our 5 night stay. One day we were brought toilet paper, that was all.
The rooms did not have anything. No minibar, no fridge, no kettle, no hairdryer, no TV, no radio, no phone and NO SMOKE DETECTOR... NOTHING. Just hard beds that felt like sleeping on a wooden pallet.
Some other people we got to know had rooms in 8th floor and they were pretty ok, but we got stuck in the soviet era rooms not suitable for humans.

I would call it an average hotel , with a lot of bad features but situated in a nice place. Most of guest are old people from germany. But the food is cheap like anywhere in Czech Republic. I would not recoment to visit this hotel , if you have to pay for this.

Once a year I stay at this hotel when going to Trutnov for a music festival. It is at fairly convenient distance from the train station and the town centre, the accommodation is just fine, free internet is available in every room, most of the rooms got renovated recently so the hotel offers comfortable stay. As a vegetarian I am not happy with the meal options, neither the breakfast is exactly the best one, but that is a usual minus for many hotels in Czech Republic. By the way by far best coffee you can get in the attached petrol station and that is where I go for my breakfast. As for the staff, they indeed are friendly.
