I have stayed several places in this area before going into the crater and this is my favorite. It gives the classic feel of an authentic safari. Very clean, courteous staff and extremely comfortable! One of my fellow travelers was very sick this past trip and they took great care of her while the rest of the group went into the crater for the day, for ever grateful to the staff at Country Lodge!

We stayed here for one night and it was amazing. The room is big and the bed is big and comfortable. The mosquito net fits perfectly around. The sheets were clean. The washroom was also big and towels clean. The shower worked fine with hot water, too. I requested that the fireplace be lighted. The staff came back with wood and set it all up nicely for us. It was so nice to have the fireplace going as it made our lodge cosy and comforting. There was no A/C but they gave us a fan when requested. The food was served nicely and promptly, one course after the other. And they came around asking if we needed a second helping. The staff were so lovely and the food delicious! Breakfast was buffet style and just great! We highly recommend this place. It's a beautiful spot, well maintained and service was great!

I visited this place on my way to Ngorongoro in March and slept in room number 21.Everything was perfect upon my arrival to the time I checked out. The environments of the lodge are good in general, very green with a very nice swimming pool.I mostly enjoyed the silence of the area. Staffs are professional and the meals are superb. They are definitely the treasure of the lodge. The soup to was the best thing I never had.So nice. The room I stayed was good.Large enough, clean with very nice and clean bathroom. I absolutely enjoyed my stay at country lodge and i recommend to whoever pass around Karatu area for an overnight.

We stayed at the Country Lodge in Karatu for two nights in between a safari to the Serengeti and a visit to the Ngorogoro crater. The Country Lodge has very comfortable rooms and beds and all the restaurant and bar facilities are excellent and well serviced by a very warm staff. Phoebe at the reception desk was very friendly and always willing to help with anything we needed. Highly recommend staying at the Country Lodge for a few nights extra to recover from any Safaris you might do in this part of Tanzania..it is an absolute oasis.

We had a nice, quiet time during our stay. Each morning we'd wake up around 6:30a, have a decent breakfast in the dining room, then spend the entire day from 8am until 5pm seeing the sights and searching for wildlife. The lodge itself is right on the edge of the park, so it was just a short distance drive each day. During our game drives we saw loads of elephants, lions, gazelles, giraffes, you name it. At sunset we would head back to the lodge which was comfortable and clean. The rooms are a good size, showers had hot running water and the beds are large. The dinner was fine, not terrible, not amazing, but the staff were very kind and helpful. I cannot think of a single negative thing to say about this very place, however I will say that it's nice for the price. And it's important to keep in mind that this is a rural area, so there may be occasional blackouts, or spotty wifi. One has to accept that and be ready to go with the flow. Are there better lodges in this area? YES. Are they much more expensive? YES. Will you spend most of your time enjoying the sights of beautiful Tanzania? YES. So for those reasons I recommend it.
