Travelers' Choice
Quietly tucked away on the top of a hill in rural Africa and, at the same time, located in the very heart of the Northern Tanzania safari circuit Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge breathes the atmosphere of true Africa. The lodge is built with indigenous hardwood and in traditional African style. It is in complete harmony with its surroundings. Yet, its spacious set up, personal and friendly service and its finishing touches, such as cozy sofas around the fireplace and warm decorative details, provide a perfectly balanced luxury. With only fifteen individual tents, Rhotia Valley has an intimate charm. Each of the comfortable tented houses has its own veranda with splendid view. The bathrooms are provided with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in our open dining area. Most of the vegetables and all the herbs are grown in our own garden. Daily we bake fresh bread in our Bakery. Moreover, we produce butter from the milk produced by our own cows. Facilities: - Swimming pool with panoramic view. - Wifi is available in the common dining area. - Conference Room fully equipped with beamer and flipchart. Rhotia Valley is more than a lodge. It is completed embedded in the community of Rhotia. Rhotia Valley consists of the Tented Lodge and, on the opposite hill, a CHILDREN'S HOME. Its aim is to give support to the people of the Rhotia area, all the staff and the children in the Home are from the local area. TWO HILLS, ONE GOAL!

The most stunning location and hotel. Beautiful stilted room, decorated for our honeymoon. Food was incredible. You must visit the children a home too, they were absolutely incredible children. A humbling experience.

Friendly and professional staff, superbly situated at the border of ngorongoro national parc, nice view and nice mountain climate without mosquitos, open fire, meals prepared with vegetables from own garden, milk and yoghurt from own cows, and supporting the children’s home on the sister hill we could visit in the evening with the lodge manager. On a sunny morning breakfast is served on a large sunny terrace. Relaxing swimming pool after hiking, and superb tents with view on the rain forest of the Ngorongoro rim. A guard brings you back to your tent after sunset

A beautiful location in a green mountainous landscape! So the tent is a little colder but they place a hot water bottle in the bed, and it works wonderfully! The surroundings have lush greenery and flowers all over. you can also walk thru their vegetable garden and take a tour of the children home that the lodge helps supporting. A perfect overnight! The main lodge is beautiful! The pool is lovely, with a great view. The tents are spacious and comfortable, with terrific 'wrap around' platform balcony for a great seat for sunrise or sunset. The staff is attentive and friendly.

Basic tents with very nice views! Nice swimming pool area and good quality of food in the restaurant. Only one problem: the owner is a real rip off. You should keep up all the drinks you take! I had to pay 230 USD for the (cheap) drinks. We only stayed There for two nights with a family with two children and were on a trip the whole day! So beware!

Such and amazing place!!! And a staff that makes you feel so safe, relaxed and happy. Especially a BIG thanks to Rajab who took very good Care of us. The food there is to die for - so tastefull and perfect portion sizes. The tents has a cozy atmosphere and beautiful views from the terrace and the beds are comfortable. Also the visit to the childrens home was a very valuable experience to us. Our return to the highway was difficult due to rainy weather but even there, they helped us and arranged everything for us! We only have one suggestion for improvement: the administation should be very specific on the type of car that Can go there (maybe even send pictures :) take Care guys! We will be back!!!

My partner and I stayed here in our way to Ngorongoro Crater for a couple of nights. My favourite aspect of the lodge is the communal area with its beautiful view and large stone fireplace to keep guests warm on the slightly cooler nights (due to the altitude). The food was delicious and the staff very welcoming. The views from the tents are stunning and they have a lovely herb/spice garden on site which they use for local cooking. A very nice touch. Would definitely stay here again.

Waking up in the morning and being overwhelmed by the spectacular view over the valley from your porch is an incredible start of your day. If you're lucky you are even able to spot some wildlife as well. Another reason why I like this place so much is its location. It is close to Ngorongoro National Park and Manyara National Park, two beautiful parks with tons of wildlife! When you're back from your day trip the staff is always ready to give you a warm welcome, prepare some nice food, based on the local kitchen. Then you can finish your day with some drinks at the bar with its spectacular view or you can enjoy the privacy of your tastefully decorated tent.

The tents are nice but the main lodge is lovely! The food was great and I loved the kittens roaming around the entry. Associated with a children's home and part of your accommodation fee supportable that effort. Most orphanages in Tanzania are operated with some pretty unsavory practices, but the owners of Rhotia Valley seemed to genuinely want to give these kids a shot at an education. Location is quite remote, so maybe batter for a stay before/after Ngorongoro.
