The rooms are spacious, clean and cozy and the staff is extremely friendly! The manager made us a surprise in the room when she knew we were on our honeymoon! Breakfast is amazing: The greatest pancakes and crispy bacon I've ever had!
Great location close to Ásbyrgi and not that far away from other northern attractions. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast and they offer dinner as well. Comfortable beds, clean and quiet rooms with nice bathroom. A lot of place to park your car. Also pretty nice views around.
We spent the night at hotel Skulagardur and we had a good time. The lamb at the restaurant was devine and the vegan salted caramel cake was on another level. Very cozy and quiet. We especially liked Jonie who works at the reception. We wil deffenitely come back soon.
Small rooms, only their restaurant for kms. Dinner was excellent, breakfast standard. Nice place to drive the Eastern fjord or gullfoss and then relax. Breakfast included if you reserve online with them, not included with booking. Com
The hotel is far from towns and restaurants. You will be forced to use their services. The site has a lot of choice but there are actually few dishes available. Although there is a common area it is not possible to have your own meals. There is no one at night. In case of problems you will have to wait for the next morning, after 7.30. The breakfast is poor. The rooms are clean but small. The value for money is not valid.
A typical Icelandic hotel with basic, clean rooms, lost in the countryside. Average dinner and breakfast. Reasonable price. The dining room is a little bit shabby, but less expensive than many others.
We loved our stay at Hotel Skulagardur on our Iceland Ring Road Trip and wish it could have been for longer. It's run by a lovely young family who live at the farmhouse next door. The hotel is an old school building which they have converted into a hotel. It's in a beautiful bit of countryside and is only 10 minutes drive from Ásbyrgi Canyon which is part of Vatnajökull National Park and well worth a visit. We arrived at 8.30pm and thought we'd have to have snacks in our room as it was late so were really pleased to be asked if we would like dinner. Harpa, mother/mother-in-law of the husband and wife owners cooked us a lovely dinner of Arctic Char, potatoes and salad. They brought us a plate of smoked goose and blueberry cream afterwards. Dinner, together with beer and wine, came to 5650 Icelandic Kroners (about £36) which was really good value compared to the prices we'd seen in restaurants elsewhere. Our room (15) was very nice. It was in new part of the building a few steps from the back door. The bathroom and shower were really nice with nice liquid soap. There were lots of plugs in sensible places. The curtains were thin so we needed eyeshades. It wasn't as bright as it might have been as the bed was hidden from the door and window area by the bathroom. It would have been nice to be able to see out form the bed though. The room faced north to lovely views and we were thrilled to see the Midnight Sun for the first times in our lives. At 1am the sun got to halfway below the horizon and then started rising again. It's something we'll always remember. Breakfast was included and was a nice buffet with sourdough bread, a waffle maker and delicious homemade 'couples cake' made by Harpa. Also bacon, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, jam, etc. and Minute Maid orange and apple juice. The owners' children were around and it was lovely to see them playing so happily with their parents and grandmother. One mention about the route to Hotel Skulagardur.....We'd visited Dettifoss early evening and then drove north from there to Hotel Skulagardur on route 864. That doesn't seem to be classed as an F road but I would say you'd need a 4WD car to drive it as it was very rough. Our Dacia Duster was okay but it was worse that the F35 road we took later in the trip. The road from the west (Husavik) is fine and a very good road. We are very glad we stayed here as it felt like staying with friends in a nice environment. We enjoyed our many conversations, not just with the owners and family but with other guests too. If we are ever back in this part of Iceland we will definitely go back here.…
The staff is extra friendly and accommodating. The rooms were nice enough. The breakfast is better than expected for this sort of a small country hotel and the dinner was great. I recommend the fish soup and the ice cream!
Had a dinner with my husband and it was perfect. We ordered three-course meal. First smoked goose bumps with toast and blueberry cream. It was so delicious. Next we had fish soups whit homemade bread. And last icecream.
Had icecream with family. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Cosy sitting room. Note that the bad reviews you find are old, when there was different management. Now a nice young couple is running the place.
