Water quality of Gero is extraordinary as compared with other hot springs I tried before in Japan. The public bath for ladies was nice. Also love the new private bath (need additional charges and reservation). Japanese/Western buffet breakfast was good. This is a big hotel with long history. I stayed in the tatami room of old wing which I did... More

Very comfortable and spacious Japanese style rooms. Although the outside of the hotel looks old, the interior has been extensively remodeled. Breakfast is buffet style and dinners are kaiseki. There is a hotel shuttle to the train station but the walk from the station is less than 10 min over the main bridge of the town. I would definitely return... More

The hotel is a short walk over the river from the train station. We had one of the smaller western style rooms but did see that they had very nice ryokan room also. Our room was a little dated in decor but fine otherwise. You have to use the public baths to shower/bath. They are quite large and were the... More

I booked a Japanese style discount plan in February via Rakuten Travel and spent 26,000 yen for one night two person on 26th March. VISA Concierge also help me to reconfirm the hotel in early March and booked the private onsen and they confirmed a Japanese style room is reserved. However, it is terrible that when you specially planned a... More

I had a memorable experience at this wonderful property, initially a bit hesitate to book such a big hotel as I prefer small boutique onsen hotel which offer more personal service, however after few rounds of survive, checking and finally decided to give it a try! just 10 min walk from the JR station even though you have to walk... This hotel, Ogawaya, standing along the Hida-river has very unique spa facility. The floor of the bathroom is all covered with waterproof tatami mats laid from edge to edge, so you'll find it very soft for your naked feet and not very slippery. It is very fun and unique experience (even for Japanese people) to have a bath watching tatami-mats!... More

Stayed 1 night at the ryokan styled room and had great memories. Love the spacious room and spa facilities. However, wifi is only available at the reception area but the hotel provide enough sitting area for users .

The rooms are clean and big. They have great facilities for onsen. Their service is impeccable. I definitely got my money's worth. My only suggestion for improvement to them is that they need better stairs to reach the outside hot spring as the stairs can be quite slippery.

I stayed here in April 2011. I liked the tradintional Japanese hotel. The breakfast was good and well laid out. The rooms were okay. Due to its location, staff speaking English was hard to find (a junior staff member spoke some broken English) but that was part of the fun of travelling to rural Japan. One of the mens' onsens...
