We visited here in september our fist holiday since the covid 19 epidemic. Firstly not a reflection on the hotel but on tui the holiday provider , yes everything was available via their app and they did text regularly but it’s not the same has having a rep visible especially in the current climate, there were no reps at the air port or on the coach to the hotel we saw no rep for the duration of our holiday or on our return at the airport , not the quality we’ve all come to expect. Anyway hotel occtidental is set at the top of a hill (it should be called cardiac hill) which leads down to a lovely beach ( which does contain lots of naked bodies !) it’s a lovely walk into the town 2 1/2 miles along the road and 4 miles if u walk along the beach, once you get there there are some lovely little restaurants on the sea front and a small shopping area , taxis back to the hotel are inexpensive and highly recommended as that hill/mountain is a killer. The hotel itself is of a very good standard, we booked a room with a sea view and the view was amazing !! Rooms were very spacious and kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay. Toiletries are provided and smell amazing and there is a hairdryer in the bathroom, fresh bottled water is provided in the rooms on a daily bases and there is a fridge in the room .the thing the rooms lack for us is a kettle .we open our eyes and need to drink tea , we brought a kettle and then found out on their app that u can request one (I don’t know how much for) The hotel is of a good size which meant there was plenty of room to move around with several bars meaning you never really had to queue for drinks, drinks were of a good standard. The food was if a high standard plentiful and always something different to try, there was something for everyone. Help yourself buffets and fresh counters of many types , The pool area was always clean and tidy and sun beds were plentiful, pool towels were available to hire at 10 euro deposit refunded on return Entertainment was of a good standard and the entertainment team worked hard , the thing I liked about them were that they offered the opportunity to join in but didn’t harass you. All the staff were pleasant friendly helpful and hard working The hotel followed the covid rules to a tee, and thought nothing of telling people to put on their masks when walking in the hotel or to the bar, staff will not serve you if u don’t have a mask !! Negatives ? There aren’t any negatives we had a lovely time and can’t fault this hotel . The island wasn’t for us, we didn’t like it however if u just want sun, good food cleanliness drinks on tap and relaxation this hotel has it all

Hotel's Favorite
Having read the previous review it honestly sounds like this person must have stayed somewhere different as this place is fantastic! Believe me when I say, I am very ‘picky’ and have pretty high standards. Yes, the rooms could probably do with a refurb but they are perfectly fine. The resort is massive and with two very nice, big pools. I was there for two weeks very recently and everything was open and running fully. The absolute best part for us was the day time activities at the top pool. Marco who is the animation team manager is an absolute pleasure to be around. He helped make our holiday become memorable with his very positive and friendly nature. He is full of energy and is a real asset to the hotel! He has only been there for about 4 weeks but seems like he has been there for years. We wish we could take him on every holiday with us we really do. He was great with us and our children and we will miss him for sure! All in all, this is a great family resort and we would be more than happy to return.

Family of 7 (3 rooms) 1 week stay. Check in was long (luckily we were first in the queue) but obviously as there was 7 of us it seemed to take an age and the queue was growing. There were only 2 people on the reception for check ins which was clearly not enough. Eventually we were given our room keys (no help with baggage) only to find that one of the rooms we were allocated was still occupied! Headed back to reception to find an even longer queue of people. Eventually got this sorted. We were told the restaurant would be open at 11p.m for light bites, unfortunately we weren't impressed with the selection as it all seemed to be fish (maybe we were too fussy)!! Rooms were clean but bit tired looking, beds were very comfortable. $3 per night for safe and $10 for beach towels which you weren't allowed to change! As a party of 7 we expected to be able to sit and have our meals together in the restaurant but each time we entered we were told only 6 to a table! We're all for abiding by rules but this was extremely frustrating particularly as there were other guests (of different nationality to us) who were allowed to sit together in bigger groups than 6! we did feel a bit victimised because of this and it was mentioned to Katerina (i think that was her name) the customer liaison lady who was extremely helpful. (we were allowed to sit together after this). Hotel is in a very quiet location and is up a very steep hill (not ideal if you have mobility problems), apparently there is a bus which runs at 10.00a.m and 11.00a.m?? Shopping centre nearby with a couple of restaurants which again were very quiet, consequently we didn't try them. We did often get a taxi to Morre Jable were there were several nice restaurants and we feel nicer beaches (the beach near the hotel was a nudist beach, which we didn't realise until walking along). Both pools looked really nice but we stayed at the top pool so cannot comment on the daytime activities or entertainment (it always sounded like everyone was having a great time). Food in the restaurant was excellent

Our 3rd stay here and still as good. The hotel was very clean and tidy and was sanitized all the time. 99.9% of the guests abided by the wearing of masks. Food was good, always something nice to eat. Pools very clean, food and drink was good. Went down to the beach most days, even though on a steep hill enjoyed the walk, there is a bus that can take you to the beach at 10 & 11 am, and will pick up at 5 & 6 so is available to most ages. Had a nice quiet room which was nice, and had a late checkout on the last day which meant we could enjoy the full day, 35 euros well spent. We are coming back again in April, staying Occidental Plus, so will be nice. Thank you for a great holiday. See you in April.
