We stayed full board, for twelve nights, in a Sunset Jacuzzi Villa which was spacious, attractively decorated and had plenty of storage space hidden between the main room and the bathroom. Housekeeping came morning and evening so we had plenty of towels, coffee and water. There is a large fridge which can be stocked with your choice of items on request. Loved the proximity of the sea and the furnished deck. There was very low occupancy during our stay, down to 8 at one point. This meant we were sometimes the only people using the pool or the bar. Heaven for us, perhaps it would not suit everyone. Considering how few people there were, the buffet restaurant provided a good choice of food. Not fine dining, more like good, freshly made home cooking, which is reasonable considering the low price we paid. Mostly curries, including a fish or meat dish, dall and various vegetable versions with rice and noodles. Always a soup, a choice of bread, various salad items, cheeses, sliced meat, pasta, lamb chops and/or chicken/steak/fish grilled with a sauce and fries or other potatoes and plain vegetables were available. Also various little desserts, fruit and a choice of ice cream. Plenty of choice at breakfast too. The local tuna, coconut and onion dish with chapattis is very tasty. We enjoy spicy food and this was great for us. Drinks prices are much the same as anywhere else in the Maldives. Snorkelling from the beach bar on the south of the island was easy. We went at high tide to avoid the possibility of grounding on the coral. We are confident so went out a good way from the beach where there was a noticeable current from south to north. Not a problem if you are a reasonable swimmer wearing fins, but maybe not for beginners or small children. Also, even quite close to the shore there is deeper water at high tide. If you are not wearing fins then wearing a pair of reef shoes, (inexpensive from Amazon), would be a good idea as there are lots of bits of broken coral. We have our own gear so cannot comment on hire costs. Loved the large swimming pool by the Dhoni bar and sitting on the deck there with a cocktail watching the Sun go down. The dolphin spotting trip was great. All the staff worked hard to make sure we had a great time. They were friendly, always smiling and efficient. Mahmood, the other waiters and the buggy drivers deserve a special mention. We used the buggy to get around as it is quite a distance to walk from one place to another in the heat. Bicycles can be hired too. Transfers and checking in and out were easy and fuss free. We had a lovely relaxing break and would book again, especially in low season as we enjoy a bit of peace and quiet.

We stayed at the resort whilst it was low season and the food they offered was comparable to my work place's canteen food. Terrible in quality, presentation, variety as well as freshness (The same cheese was displayed for numerous meals and days in a row). When the resort filled up due to a public holiday all of a sudden there was more options and more effort made, although the food was still of low quality. The rooms were really nice and spacious and the service was great. Would have been nice if someone cared enough to ask us how our stay was though. Its a shame the food was so bad as this place has great potential. If this is your first time to the Maldives, take note that food plays a big part in your overall enjoyment as there is not much else to look forward to. The fun activities such as scuba, watersports etc is extremely overpriced and drinking your boredom away will set you back $$$.... Also, before booking make sure you take note of the connecting flight prices (if coming through Male) and boat transfer prices.

If your idea of paradise is white sand and nothing else, a pristine resort manicured within an inch of it’s life, this is not the place for you. Instead, at Canareef, you get, on the lagoon side, white sand with pebbles, shells and coral all naturally washed in from the sea. You get beautiful blue sea, and the only thing you can hear is the lapping of the waves, occasionally, an electric buggy passing by or the sound of other guests out on their bikes. We stayed in a sunset jacuzzi villa which looked exactly like the website pictures. We had two chairs and loungers on the deck facing the sea and loungers in the back next to the jacuzzi. The spa is a must; the hot stones & Balinese massages are some of the best we have experienced. The resort itself is best described as rustic. Others have mentioned the sand on the floor which actually works - unless you don’t want a beach resort in which case, take yourself somewhere else! The service is mostly good, Asim and Shier really took care of us. Shier really excelled himself decorating our room and the walkway to it for a special birthday which was lovely. Bar service was mixed, particularly in the restaurant where the drinks were limited and they didn’t seem to want to get you a drink from the bar. So if there is something you really want, get it before you go to dinner! The ‘all inclusive’ package is really limited and a bit disappointing. Food is only served during the restaurant opening hours and unlike other all inclusive resorts, there was no ‘snack / pool bar’ type options. The drinks menu, particularly for cocktails is poor. We visited when it was quiet so many of the bars were not open. The Dhoni bar is a great place to watch the sunset if you’re not on the lagoon side. Customer Service is ok, communication is lacking as trips were cancelled due to the weather but no one told us; they just looked surprised when we turned up! We were unlucky, the weather was not great with torrential rainstorms over a number of days so perhaps we didn’t see the resort in its best light. That said, four stars is stretching it a bit for us.

We took our two kids and had a wonderful time here, the food was pretty good and the service is excellent. One of my daughters had a birthday here, so the staff made us a lovely chocolate cake and the band came to sing to her and the kind manager offered us a free snorkeling trip. The room was clean twice every day and plenty of water bottles left for us all. No issues with the cleaning, it was very good. The island is lovely and the bikes are good value to hire daily. The big swimming pool is delightful to swim in , water is very clear and warm. We did a couple of excursions and the cost of these can mount up when there is a family and the resort prices are reasonable. The only downside is the third party companies which run the flights from Male to GAN, for a flight of about 500miles the prices are very high and currently they are the only company providing the flights. Also the third parties that set the prices for the dive center, the water ski's/speedboat etc were extortionate so we didn't bother with those, we can do the same at in a European resort for a quarter of the price. The kids didn't want to go back home to the UK and I wish I had booked for a bit longer than 10 days. All in all , we had a great time and would go back any time we can afford to.

Staff are great. Very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Snorkeling at the south end of the island was very good, safe. Buggies always on hand to cart one to all amenities. Accommodation clean and tidy (cleaning twice daily!). Met some really nice people who became friends.
