The Maldives that you don't expect! Keep in mind that once landed in Malè, you must collect your luggage, move to the domestic flights area and check in again. Be careful to calculate the times well between one flight and another or you risk being left waiting in Male' for 4-6 hours! Resort located on a very large portion of the island. You constantly have the illusion that you are completely alone. Long, completely deserted beaches where you can walk and sunbathe in total solitude. Unfortunately very difficult to swim because the sea is completely invaded by algae. Lush vegetation, very different from the classic Maldivian atolls. For swimming and snorkelling the only option is the beach at the bottom of the island which can be reached by bike or with a taxi service from the Resort (5-7 minutes). Very friendly and helpful staff to make your stay pleasant. Spacious and reserved apartments, I recommend from nr.120 to nr.140. Amazing sunsets! The reef is unfortunately completely dead and therefore colorless. Even the amount of fish is small, but still all the typical varieties of the Maldives are easily encountered, including sharks. dolphins, turtles and manta rays. Restaurant with international cuisine. Not very spicy, fortunately! Varied menu and overall a very good rating. Just outside the Resort, you can visit the village of Addu, easily with the bicycles provided by the Resort. I surely recommend you to do it! Good wifi connection. Good cleaning of both the apartments and public areas. For those who love swimming pools (even in the Maldives?) there are two very large and equipped for young and old. Good quality - price ratio.

Dear Catia61Catia, Thank you for taking the time to write a comment on Tripadvisor, we are happy that you had a good stay with us and find us value for money. Yes, it is very important for our guests to check the flight time as the local carrier runs on a fixed schedule that is very often with delays and although the airline provides the best available connection, guests who arrive later than the check in time for an earlier flight are therefore scheduled on the next flight which can be hours apart. The same for guests international departure if in the early morning from Male will also be expected to leave the resort very early in the morning in order to catch the domestic flight to Male, it is therefore highly recommended to check if your international flight arrival and departure corresponds with the local domestic flight to Canareef so as to minimize the waiting time in Male. Yes, we have a very big island and if its peace that you are looking for then we are the perfect destination. We are a very natural island and that includes the sea grass that grows in our lagoon, lakes and wooded areas. During extremely low tides guests would have to also walk out even further as it will be very shallow. During high tide however it would be easier. Yes, we have the end island beach that doesn't have much sea grass. Guest often are taken aback with the sea grass but many resorts in the Maldives are currently promoting their sea grass as it brings with it so much marine life, such as turtles, Rays, Eels, Baby sharks and so many different species of fish. Here we are encouraging our guest to snorkel a bit further out where there is so much more to see and experience. I do not know which reef you are referring to that is dead, the reef on the lagoon side is quite far out from the beach and is intact in most areas with some damage from boat anchors and not dead. Coral formations close to the beach are affected by coral bleaching whilst some are indeed dead due to the low tide. Thank you for your comment on our food, wifi, swimming pools, cleanliness and our staff. We again thank you for being our guests and hope that we will get the opportunity to have you again as our guest in the future.

Words cannot describe how beautiful this place is. The journey to get there is long but worth every minute. The villas are clean with room service twice daily, beds large and comfortable. The food is plentiful good standard and lots of choice Maldivian curries are amazing! I did hear some people saying they weren’t happy with the food but got the feeling they wanted English food but for us if we wanted that we’d stay in England! The staff absolutely make this resort they are such kind and gentle people and their only aim is to give you the best experience they can. They work so hard and ALWAYS have a smile on their face and nothing is too much trouble. They give everything expecting nothing in return. We went on a snorkel trip on a boat out to the reefs and Anas our guide was excellent. I am Nervous in the water and have never snorkelled before. He was so encouraging and supportive I loved it and can’t wait to go again! We also went on the dolphin trip. Having been on many before didn’t expect to see the large pod of 100s of spinner dolphins putting on a great display. The Spa is the best! We had the Canareef massage and it was fantastic. Unfortunately as it rained the night we had booked the special dinner on the beach we didn’t get to do this …..maybe next time. There is a lot of sea grass but this is natural the water is very clear and the colours are stunning. You can see the fish swimming round from the edge. The fish feeding is worth a watch we sat on the jetty watching the reef, black tipped sharks, stingray, turtles and much more swimming under us. I can’t name all the staff and can’t pick one person who was unhelpful, but to name a few who stood out Anas who does the tours. The guy who painted in reception, Hussain our waiter, Rishard the bar manager, Kevin the manager, yunita at the pool bar were all amazing but so was everybody! The resort is slowly getting busier after COVID from what I have been told and is very much worth supporting, but you choose there are areas you can be alone and others that are the hub to socialise. We loved our holiday and will find it hard to match it. It’s not 5 star plus but for us that was better it wasn’t robotic or commercialised just genuine service culture and kindness ……absolute paradise we miss it and the people but are so grateful for the experience…Thank you Sue and Tony Blackburn

We had initially booked this destination with the first leg being Sri Lanka and then Maldives. We had never really looked at the Maldives as a destination due to its exclusiveness and isolation. Didn't think there would be much to do. We booked with Bluebay Travel and were travelling with another couple. When going to Sri Lanka wasn't and option we changed the holiday to a 2 week stay in Canareef. The headline has to be that there is enough at this destination to have a fabulous 2 week holiday. The flights were via Sri Lanka, Male and final flight to Gan(I believe there will be flights later this year direct from Dubai to Gan which would be a great improvement). We had a sunset bungalow on the beach. This resort is 4km long and you are given mountain bikes with the bungalow. There are golf buggies that constantly run up and down the resort and this was fantastic as one of the other couple found it difficult to walk further than 50m. We were near the restaurant and main pool and the best beach for snorkelling was at the other end so we could cycle for an early swim before breakfast. The island is flat and walking everywhere is easily possible if you like walking. The resort felt it was still waking up from Covid and wasn't at capacity so it felt amazing to have this whole resort to yourself. The staff were fabulous and always helpful. You get the same table in the restaurant every meal and therefore you get to know who will look after you for you dinning experience. The food was all made in the kitchen and had curries, western diet and fruit. We were happy with the amount and quality of the food available . The trips were organised through the hotel and we went on a dolphin tour (saw loads of dolphins) sunset fishing(really great experience catching fish only with a line and the crew bated the hook so no need to get mucky) Island tour to see the whole atoll, massage in the spa. took the mountain bike to the town next door for a good cycle around. Had a go at tennis(could do with updating the rackets and courts) There is another pool further down the resort and we had the choice of the 3 locations for a relaxing time in the sun during the day. The 2 bar areas(there is also a beach bar that closes in the evening) have pool tables and limited entertainment and are huge so plenty of room. amazing sunsets and cocktails. We will definitely return to this most southerly atoll of the Maldives and wish we could have stayed longer than 2 weeks!! Weather was brilliant in Nov and was completely different to the weather in Male at the same time.

I have left a piece of my heart here, from the moment we arrived until we left there was nothing to complain about as we stepped off the speedboat we were greeted by ice cold flannels and ice cold tea our bags were taken to the sunset villas and from then onwards pure relaxation, chill and impeccable service. Rooms are cleaned twice a day, food what an array of international cuisine many dishes freshly cooked in front of you. With your own designated table for the duration of your stay and our own attentive waiter Hussain. Then the pool bar to watch amazing sunsets great drinks and of course excellent service. The spa is a must visit and definitly make use of the bikes. The dolphin tour bought a tear to my eye with only 8 of us that day experiencing these animals free in the wild. The beauty of Canreef is its unspoilt NOT commercialised and the natural beauty and vegetation is breathtaking. The management really care about what the customer thinks. The sunset villas are a must literally a few steps to the white talcum powder sand. Everyone is smiley happy and nothing is too much trouble. If you are looking for a real taste of soitude peace and a real Maldivian experience this is the resort. Thank you for such an amazing holiday I hope to return soon.

My husband and I have just returned from the most amazing 2 week holiday in canareef resort. The sunset jacuzzi villa was amazing, practically on the beach. Our villa was serviced twice daily and kept immaculately clean and water was replenished twice a day. Food vas varied and very good, our waiter Shifaz was excellent making sure our drinks were ready and waiting for us each meal time.Evening entertainment was relaxing and low key. The island is approximately 5 kilometres long and guests are supplied with bikes to explore the island. We preferred to use the buggy service to pick us up and drop us off wherever we needed to be. All the staff were so pleasant, everyone always had a smile. We would definitely recommend Canareef if your looking for peace, tranquility and relaxation.

We had the most incredible time at Canareef resort Maldives! It was my dream to go to the Maldives for my 50th and this place did not disappoint! It is a large island and the resort is spread out along a beautiful coastline, with the lagoon on one side and the open sea on the other. It was quite busy but never felt that way as there are so many beautiful places to sit on the beach and relax, it definitely had the desert island feel that I was hoping for! That said, there are always staff around to help, serve you drinks or give you a lift on one of their beach buggies so you don't have to walk anywhere if you don't want to. The khili restaurant was ideal for me as I like buffet style, being able to pick a bit of anything I like. Having the same waiter for every meal meant you had continuity of care and our waiter, Shifaz was always ready with our usual drinks of choice the minute we walked in. He was an absolute godsend, such great friendly service and it really made our time there extra special that he arranged a table on the beach for my husbands birthday, and also for our last night. The resort was always tidy and rooms cleaned thoroughly and to a high standard. The nightly entertainment was great, even for us who tend to go to bed quite early! We did several trips that were organised by the resort which were absolutely fabulous! I would definitely go to this resort again as I feel like it would be like visiting old friends as all the staff were so lovely!

Hello Canareef and readers! To be honest we felt a bit so so prior our arrival after reading some reviews and had pretty low expectations on “our dream vacation in the Maldives”. However, what was read before arrival what’s totally nonsense 😊 The bungalow we had was amazing, clean with a nice glimt of the sunset and the ocean from the terrace (photos must have been taken with an old camera, much better in reality - that goes for all photos you view online) 👌 The pool areas was awesome, the beach next to the main pool was great and the main beach was better than a postcard. Went there with my partner and our daughter, there was not many 2y old kids running around, however the staff was amazing playing with our daughter 24/7. Would like to thank all the staff from the main beach-restaurants-pool areas for that, thank you for giving us some free time 😊 Would also like to mention the food. Usually when you go to an all inclusive place the food and buffet is average and sometimes not something you would like to come back to.. this place was the other way around. You had a Greek evening, Asian evening, Indian evening, Italian evening and local reef fish evening each day so the food was always something we really looked forward to each evening! Good to bring beach shoes (the beach was good and white as whitsundays in Australia), sometimes you had some corrals in the sand due to the local reef (toons of fishes, turtles, sting rays and baby’s sharks) just awesome if you like that. Canareef, thank you so much for a great time, would love to come back one day ❤️ Big thanks, Charlie, Martin and Florence from Sweden

We stayed at Canareef for 7 nights in a Sunset Villa, and everything was fantastic. The villa backed on to the bay side of the island, so the water was calm and lovely to swim / snorkel in. The bay side comes with a lovely beach which is very quiet and relaxing. The villa was also within very short walking distance of the reception, gym, dive centre, restaurant and pool which eliminated the need to use the buggies often. That being said when we did use the buggies (to get to the beach bar only), they were very prompt and pain free. We enjoyed the dolphin cruise, morning fishing trip, private snorkelling trip and a beginners scuba diving trip, all of which were absolutely brilliant. Didi (who looked after all of our excursions except the diving, which is a private company) was just amazing. He really went the extra mile to make sure our trip was one to remember for life. We are very grateful for everything he did for us. The food was fantastic. Each night there was a different theme, all of which were just as good as the other. The restaurant dedicates a table and waiter for you for the extent of your stay so there is no worry about where you’re going to sit. The evening entertainment was great. The DJ and Live singer were always smiling and keeping everyone entertained, also the bar staff were very pleasant and friendly. They made sure you were never without a drink. The rooms were cleaned twice a day which was nice. On the whole, it was an amazing trip and we wouldn’t hesitate to rebook next year should we have the opportunity too.

It's the best time we could have spent. Absolute peace, because this island and this atoll are located far south of the capital. no hearing of planes which happens especially on the islands near Male. Here you can only hear the ocean, wind, palm trees, animals and your own thoughts 😉 Incredibly friendly staff, everyone smiling and kind. Good food. Unusual nature, the island is quite large, so you have many opportunities. Riding a bike in between is pure pleasure. It's also nice to go to the local island by bike. They have some nice optional excursions. An unforgettable encounter with dolphins in nature. Thank you Didi. ☺️ Spa service absolutely excellent. The service of the restaurant, reception, other employees is a plus. You are greeted beautifully and a beautiful farewell. Lovely beach by the beachbar, great for snorkelling. The whole resort is well-kept, someone is cleaning somewhere all day long. We really liked the atmosphere of the resort, it's not so artificial, it looks a bit more wild which is a plus because you don't feel like in a plastic ball and it's beautiful, clean and smooth at the same time. We are absolutely delighted. If only I could go back there in a minute for longer 😉 Thank you.

Dear Zaneta P, Firstly thank you for taking the time to write a comment on TripAdvisor. We are happy that you found Canareef to be peaceful and quiet apart from the sounds of nature. We try to keep the island as natural as possible and because we are so long, 4.5Km, you will always be able to find a quiet place. We are also very thankful that you found our staff incredibly friendly and cheerful and our food to your liking. Yes, we have sweepers who sweep the roads and the beaches daily and I thank you for mentioning them as we often forget those who work behind the scenes in order to make Canareef what it is today. Thank you for your comments on our Spa services, I am sure they will be happy to receive your feedback. Again, thank you for your wonderful comments and we hope to be able to welcome you back at Canareef in the future.
