My wife and I had the great good fortune to stay at the B&B Albero Gemello while visiting Albano Laziale over Easter weekend. Mary and Mario picked us up at the train station, Since Mary knew we were visiting Albano Laziale because we were considering it as a possible place to retire, she drove us all around so that we could see more of the area than we could on foot. On Easter Sunday I decided to walk into the center of town because I needed to find an ATM, and I wanted to check out the downtown on foot. (It's an easy uphill stroll of maybe 600 meters from the B&B into the center of town.) Mario gave me directions to an ATM, but then realized that the ATM was located in a place where it was hard to spot. Therefore he drove into town to find me and take me there himself. Since it was Easter Sunday, most restaurants were closed, but Mary and Mario drove my wife and me over to the neighboring town to a great restaurant serving a traditional Easter holiday menu. They dropped us off there and then picked us up after we finished. The following morning they drove us back to the train station, and because the places selling train tickets were all closed Mary gave us instructions on how to purchase tickets on the train. None of this was required on their part; it was all just part of their sincere desire to take good care of their guests. The B&B itself is very comfortable and charmingly decorated. The bed in our room had a great mattress, and a well appointed bathroom was adjacent to the room. There is no doubt that we will stay there again when we next are in the area.…
Enjoyed our stay here. The town has several decent restaurants including one across the street from the B&B. The B&B is outside Rome's hustle and bustle, set on a quiet street in a yard with orange trees. A short walk to the train station after a lovely breakfast takes you into the Termini in the centre of Rome. The host and hostess are a wealth of information about the history, architecture and politics of Italy. Hostess is Canadian while the host is Italian who also speaks fluent French. The two rooms are clean and comfortable with a shared bathroom. The family dog is sweet and very friendly.
It gives me pleasure to share my thoughts on staying with Mary Janet, Mario, Marcello and Pupa - I have been numerous times, solo, and with my family because of the warmth of this family, the great conversations, the awesome breakfasts, the fascinating surrounds, its proximity to Rome, Ciampino, the Pontifical Villa of Castel Gandolfo, the lakes, ancient Roman Baths, and so much more. Not only do you meet 'local' people from Italy, but also from many other parts of the world, which always adds to ones travels. There are great restaurants in Albano and Ariccia and it is definitely a city worth exploring for its 'place' in history. Albero Gemello is clean and bright with a wonderful array of antiquities, and modernity for your viewing pleasure.
I must say that the hospitality was excellent and the hosts were very kind and helpful, even taking the trouble to pick us up from the station. BUT....the room was disappointing. The decor looked old-fashioned, shabby and depressing. The walls were full of really awful paintings and drawings hung willy-nilly, the "warderobe" was inadequate, the bedside table a strange round plastic contraption which would hold very little. The room had no TV though the "private" balcony was occupied by a large satellite dish and you could all-too-clearly hear the sound of the hosts' TV drifting up the open plan staircase (a house design which gave very little sense of privacy.) To add to the feeling of lack of privacy were the frosted glass doors both in bedroom and bathroom (albeit covered with curtains). Five stars for cleanliness however. We had been told that the place was close to the town centre but in fact it was a real uphill trek of 20 minutes or more. However, as I said before, hospitality was great and breakfast very good, so for a couple of nights none of what I have moaned about really mattered a lot. However, although the location is very good for visiting Castel Gandolfo and Ariccia and Genzano, I wouldn't go back for a longer stay.…
In Albero Gemello you can have it all: If you want to enjoy being part of a lovely family, or if you prefer having your privacy, any which way you prefer, here you will find both! And this besides a 5-star breakfast, always friendly hosts, nice and clean rooms and facilities...what more can you probably ask for? :-)
