I am currently staying at this hotel and in all honesty, it has been one of if not the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. This possibly couldn’t be a 4* hotel. It would go for a poor 2*. No kettle in the room and not possible to get hot drinks outside restaurant hours, which doesn’t open before 0830. No slippers in the room. Rooms/hotel have a very bad smell. Very much outdated. Unhelpful receptionist. The list just goes on and on. Would never return neither recommend it to anyone. Very disappointing.
Its evident no money has been sunk back into this place since it was built. The staff are fantastic and it’s really not their fault. The building is in really bad shape. The rooms are beat up and uncomfortable. You would be better off staying at a near by hostel in all honesty. Disappointing.
My son and I booked this room because of the proximity to the beach. The hotel is located walking distance to the beach. On our way to the hotel my husband informed that the hotel had terrible reviews. My son and I decided to have an open mind and judge the place for ourselves. The hotel itself is aged and is in need of updating however the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and the views at breakfast are to die for! Yes, the art on the walls was crooked (we found it amusing) and there was a strong smell of cologne in the room when we walked in but besides that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Praia Mar Hotel. We slept well and didn't hear any noises in the night. In fact we were quite surprised to see how many guests were at breakfast in the morning as we hardly saw anyone there during the day! We would gladly stay there again!…
This is never a 4 star hotel - it should be 0 rated. Maintenance a joke. Breakfast buffet - you will get a better breakfast and service at your home rather than in their restaurant. Bar - on 8th floor, no indication where it is. Hardly ever staffed and when it is, the bar person has no glasses to hand and closes at 10.30 if not before. Restaurant (also 8th floor and no indication it is there) evening buffet is a joke too - 3 dishes, no idea what they are and no-one to ask having waited 5 minutes for someone to appear. Do NOT waste your money or your stay in Carcavelos in this hotel.
This hotel is in a very convenient location to the beach and you can walk up to the bars and cafes. HOWEVER, it is not a 4-star hotel as is claimed. I've been to many hotels of various grades and I know what 4-star represents. The staff are very helpful / friendly but the management of the hotel need to look again. It's old, the rooms are of poor design and the breakfast is poor (e.g. the orange juice tastes watered down). It's not possible to charge phones with the plug as its connected to the light switch which keeps the room lights on (arrghhh). No doubt this will remain a popular choice for people visiting the area, particularly in relation to the location to the beach, but I would be inclined to go elsewhere and pay a bit extra (Someone in Lisbon Tourism Board needs to knock a star off).…
