We arrived after a few years since our first visit. Our old apartment in bldg B wasn't available so we got one in A. I knew it wouldn't be the same. The apartment in A wasn't as big as our old one in B. It was right over the Funchal. It stunk of smoke and burnt meat 24 hours a day because the kitchen exhaust is under the apartment. The kitchen, bathrooms and utility rooms windows all open into an interior open column the goes all the way to the top of the building. The noise from all of the 5 floors Apartments (10) reverberate into your room. If I had a noise meter it would be a constant 60-75db of noise. The Jewish people walked around like zombies and let their children do what ever they wanted, undisciplined. Their children screamed from what seemed of all of the floors. One child was locked in its room to scream and throw temper tantrums for hours. Ilha da madeira resort is not couples friendly. The staff was at all times professional and very courteous. We love the resort and Sao Lourenço, but sad to say it's Jewish guests and their offspring are an embarrassment to other guests.

We rented from a private owner an apartment, 207C, very well maintained, clean and beautiful. The hotel resort facilities are excellent, the restaurant on the hotel premisses is very good! Breakfast is awesome! I do recommend and this is the second time we stayed there. Also they have a good program for the kids.

I spent a weekend there and I have to say that I´d struggle on saying anything good at all. For BRL600 a night (circa U$250) I normally expect good quality and decent service. I didn´t find either at Ilha da Madeira. The apartment is Ok, just Ok and that is as good as it gets. The service is just disgraceful. The hotel has plenty of totally stupid rules that everyone has to follow. Having to hang a pass in the car is ok as long as you get the pass at check in! They tell you where the parking is but don´t give you the pass. The highs of the weekend really came on Sunday when after telling us that we could´t get a late check-out (fair) they told us that we could´t even stay in the premises!?!? Really? Not even at the swimming-pool? No, the rules say that you must leave at noon. If that wash´t enough, at the beach we were told that "we can´t move the chairs", I didn´t really know that I was in a Swiss beach! Finally, the biggest joke came when checking out at 11.55 we were told that we can´t leave until the maid checked that everything in the room was ok. UN-BE-LIE-BE-ABLE!!!!! So basically you must leave but not until they tell you! Absolutely horrible. Won´t ever go back and I strongly recommend you to do the same.

Response from Gerencia I, Gerente at Ilha da Madeira Resort
Responded Dec 18, 2014
good afternoon Mr. Fernando First thank you for your review on TripAdvisor, It is with great pleasure that I make some reasons related to the factors that led to the Lord a possible inherent dissatisfaction with the services provided by us Residential Resort Madeira. The rules which the Lord puts in question are essential to the functioning, organization and good relationship between the regulars of Madeira, in addition, the main one being the safety of all and at all times, for example:   The identification bracelet which guarantees allow access of persons authorized to units and dependencies. At the same reason it gives the vehicle badge procedure for access to the parking lot, where you only have access to the vehicle is properly identified what is meant that it already went through reception, registered and is duly authorized to circulation. The Latter check out, our employees are told will make the Latter - out when available, ie when there is no reservation in the unit concerned. on the contrary, it is crucial that the unit is 12am released so we can honor the check-in 14h commitment to the next customer. This practice is for each and every client to make check-in or check-out. We followed the guidelines of the check-out must be completely (without use of dependancy) for the avoidance of future problems, because if used pool, beach, sauna and the like, we will not have to have extra resources so as to recompose after such period, all this because we have the resources reserved for the following client, as well as parking space. The beach of the Riviera and kept clean and organized by the Association of Riveira where the positioning of chairs and tables corresponding to each condo, so follow this organization. No, we're disagreeing or even questioning the observations and point of view of you and your family as our system of work and effort to ensure excellence in service, but we should rather inform you that all these procedures are based on simple order to serve all the same and that is the best possible way. I hope someday we can count again with his presence and undo this bad impression that is present. att, Ilha da Madeira

OFF SEASON: The rooms are nice and customer service was as helpful as they could be considering the language barrier at times. This certainly is an area Sao Paolians visit rather than tourists. The hotel's restaurant is good, breakfast has a great variety of fruits and traditional breakfast breads/cakes. The beach vibe in the off season is dead and there are only 1 or two restaurants in the local mall open, if you are lucky. There are no restaurants on the beach here. The grocery store nearby is complete but expensive. Overall this hotel is perfect for families to spend quality time together as there isn't much variety of activities or restauraunts nearby.
