Our tented accommodation (under a proper roof and with full bathroom and ourdoor bath) had a substantial and very private terrace overlooking the trees (monkeys, birds, one elephant) down to the river. Wonderful ambiance. Staff were excellent and food good (complimentary house wine). Two local game drives are easy (one 'Sunset' also for sundowners), and boat trips on Lake Albert (either birds notably Shoebill - we found two) or the waterfall easily arranged. The drive down to the bottom of the Rift Valley to reach Semliki from Fort Portal has a spectacular 10 km section (well surfaced). The gravel road through the park does have significant commercial traffic (to the port for transit to the DRC) but it does not intrude on the Lodge or the game drives.

Having herd some feedback from friends that had visited Semliki Safari lodge,i always pictured beautiful views. When i finally visited the lodge,Semliki Safari Lodge extremely exceeded my expectations since i got ''The most breathtaking experience'' words can not explain. I felt so relaxed and never rushed during my 2 nights stay at the lodge. The staff was enchanting, flexible at all times.I had never experienced awesomeness in the Wild but finally i did.Memories will last.I surely will re-visit.

On arrival we were met my Nolene and Tony who were perfect hosts throughout our stay. We were upgraded to a suite which was quite the best accommodation we stayed in during our time in Uganda. The suite was beautiful and there are lots of lovely, hugely comfortable seating areas throughout the lodge. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The lodge head guide, David, took us on great drives and also a boat cruise on Lake Albert where he found us a pair shoebills - fabulous.

I've heard great things about Semliki Lodge over the years and finally had my first visit last week. Semliki is off the beaten track for most people but with a nearby airstrip plus excellent road from Fort Portal, it's easier than ever to access. You will love Semliki Lodge if you really want a wilderness escape. I'm a bird lover so that is another big draw. Unfortunately we only had one night there and used the lodge as a base for (excellent) birdwatching. I did have a dip in the swimming pool, a beautiful stone creation with sunset views. The main living area Semliki Lodge is rather grand. I loved the big chunky sofas and the hardwood furniture. I shared a luxurious ensuite tent with a friend. The hardwood floor felt beautiful underfoot, I sunk into the mattress and had a great night's sleep, occasionally punctuated by the cough of a Uganda kob! The shower always had hot water. The campfire is lit at around 7 o'clock which is a good time for an early evening drink (if you haven't already started!) Gin and tonics (with ice and lemon of course) really hit the spot. At dinner time we ate by candlelit at a big shared table. There were two starters. My friend had tempura vegetables which were exquisitely done with the perfect 'bite,' served with a tasty dipping sauce. I ate Satay chicken sticks which were tender and tasty. For main course, my vegetarian friend had the gnocchi (an Italian potato dish) which is not for everyone. The sauce was quite delicious. For main course, I ate the pork belly. It was tasty although I'm not a big meat eater. (The downside of eating by romantic candlelight is you can't actually see what you're eating). The pork was served on a bed of mashed potato with some green beans. (I could have eaten a lot more vegetables or a side salad for example). Dessert was an incredible lemon meringue, a perennial favourite and beautifully cooked. (Meringue can be a hard one to master). Overall the food was excellent and we had a great stay. Thanks to all the staff who looked after us, particularly George, the assistant manager who made us feel like old friends right from the start. I particularly enjoyed our chats about the exciting plans to develop Semliki Wildlife Reserve.

We had 6 wonderful nites at Semliki Safari Lodge. We were warmly welcomed by Toni and Nolene, managers, each time we returned from an outing. Food was spectacular and chef made successful delicious efforts to cater to our dietary needs. Rooms very comfy and beautifully decorated. The long dining table ensured getting to know other guests though for most of our stay, we were the only guests. Toni & Nolene made us feel like old friends. This is not the place to go for the African Big Five, but if you seek serenity and enjoy subtler aspects of nature, Semliki will not disappoint. You may be awakened by distant chimps one day, olive baboons another day, and it is highly likely you will see forest elephants during a game drive. The bird life is plentiful and satisfying. One highlight of our stay was a boat trip on Lake Albert where we were treated to a pair of nesting Shoebills, odd, stork-like birds. If you are VERY lucky, indeed, you might even catch a glimpse of one of the elusive leopards (we did)! I can't say enough about this amazing place. There is no wifi in the rooms but it is available in the lodge. My best advice: go to Semliki Safari Lodge. You will be glad you did.
