This is my first visit back since it was renovated under the auspices of the Dolce/Wyndham brand. The lobby and decor is very nice and the room we were in was obviously newly done. . We were told that the hotel is having difficulty finding housekeeping staff and that they had to turn people away because they couldn't clean rooms in time for the weekend. We did not get in until 4:30. We booked a junior studio suite but it was really just a king room - no sofa, no table, etc. The tv was there but you have to pay $20.00 to use the Chromecast or settle for basic channels. There was no bathrobe (maybe because of Covid?). The premium bath products consisted of a bar of soap so small we had to ask for extra, and 4 extra small 1 oz bottles of shampoo etc. The coffee maker was provided with 2 coffee cups and 1 tea. If you wanted more you had to go downstairs and pay $2.00 at the machine. The so-called "convenience store" had a freezer that was essentially empty. The next day our room was never cleaned. When we asked to have someone come and clean it we were told "they would try" and no one showed up all day. Later, I asked at the desk if someone could just deliver a few towels and some coffee as it hadn't been touched. Nothing happened. Parts of the hotel have a very strong musty odor. It is prevalent in the lobby and it was so bad in the open closet area in the room that our clothes smelled when we got home. Very sad about this-it was really a lovely place. .

This last stay here was the fourth time we've come to visit the area. While we used to live in New Jersey, we now live in Pennsylvania , and even though it's now three hours away, it's still very much worth the trip. This 100+-year-old hotel is historic, huge, and wonderfully run. It originated as a golf getaway, and while it still offers a tremendous golf vacation, one doesn't have to stay there for that alone. The staff should receive a five-star rating as much as the hotel itself. They are courteous, helpful, and patient. While the building is more than 100 years old, it looks brand new, with refurbished rooms, a beautiful dining area and bar, along with many other offerings too numerous to get into. Its location is also excellent, as it's under an hour to beautiful Cape May, and not ten minutes to the quaint Smithville Village area. There are numerous other restaurants from which to choose in the area as well as visiting the other sites nearby. Listen, if you're interested in a great golf experience, be sure to try here; if you're not a golfer, STILL be sure to come here. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful hotel with beautiful grounds! The beds are VERY comfortable! And it’s an excellent value. 5 star qualities at a reasonable price. The indoor saltwater heated pool is beautiful. They also have an outdoor pool & hot tub. Our only issue was flying bugs trying to bite us while in the hot tub at night.

A short three hour time limit on day time weddings left our wedding with much to be desired. (We weren't made aware of any daytime packages that allowed us to have more time.) Granted in the winter when we started planning since dance floors weren't open with COVID-19, and my fiance didn't have a great interest in dancing, we didn't think this time limit would be a problem. (However, as what we wanted changed and COVID restrictions loosened) we had scheduled it so that we would ideally have an hour to socialize and dance after eating. Warning couples who think that a 3 hour day time wedding including a ceremony is enough time... it's not! Taking photos takes up so much time. So alright, we can be blamed for paying thousands of dollars for only a three hour wedding. (An event where you are also not given the option to taste test your food or wedding cake ahead of time. Big mistake- I've tasted better cakes at ShopRite!) I could have lived with this if things had ran more smoothly with the wedding coordinater and the banquet coordinator. Apparently once the ceremony is over, things are taken over by a banquet coordinator (a person we never met before, who likely had no idea what our exact schedule was etc.) This person didn't seem to communicate much with me or my family. For instance, there wasn't much coordination in regards to communicating with the announcer (my father) for when to announce us and our first dance. Also, I don't know whose fault it was, but our guest book was never put out! Furthermore, there was also little space made for us on the dance floor! I had also really wanted to do my first look on the grand staircase or by the water fountain: I had made a point to mention this to my wedding coordinater several times. However, I wasn't informed until the day before the wedding that there was a brunch going on outside, so I wasn't able to take any pictures in that area. If I had known that there was a possibility that I couldn't utilize other parts of the venue (although I get it, we booked the centennial pavillion and oval lawn area), maybe I would have re-evaluated my decision to have the wedding there. I believe it is important to utilize the beauty of a venue to it's full potential. I had thought that once you decide to have a wedding at a venue you would be able to utilize various aspects of the venue, but I guess that this is not always the case. Obviously I was a bit naive in regards to wedding planning and figuring out what I wanted. Anyway, I just want to warn couples about these factors and let people know that if you are having a micro wedding/ small wedding in the daytime, there may be less attention given to you than if you were having a longer event. We should have done more research and figured out that we wanted a longer wedding before signing the contract. It is a shame because it is a beautiful venue and you'd think that they'd offer an hour or two more for clients who wish to have a day time weddings, rather than having a 3 hour cut off. Clearly, this place specializes in golf and not weddings.

Our stay at this resort was wonderful. The staff ~ everyone greeted us with a welcoming smile, the grounds ~ adorned with beautiful flowers and the resort ~ simply charming. We especially loved their outdoor patio area where you can sit and relax with a cocktail while enjoying the scenery. Oh, they also have a huge fire pit which is an added bonus while on the patio. We loved it and already booked a longer stay in September.
