It is an essential Pardor with everything you learn to expect of a Parador (good and less). Good: the surroundings/location, less its distance to facilities, basic bedroom, personel motivation ... You need a car. The restaurant is Ok but not special.

Two parador so right next to each other. The old castle was gorgeous, nice room, very up to date, only its July and there's no air conditioning, so went to one next door. Nice room, but older, but worn. Has everything needed for one night stay. Breakfast just ok, nothing special. They did have a nespresso machine, very nice! Why...

Dear Judy, We appreciate that during your visit to Spain, had decided to stay in our Paradores, first at Monterrei Castle, and regretting the inconvenience of having changed to the nearby Parador de Verin, has been an opportunity to meet both establishments. We hope that if you return, you can visit us again. Kindest regards on behalf of the entire...

We stayed at the Parador called Monterrei / Verin and I am not sure which is the correct name as there are two, one within 2 kms of the other, and both under the same management. Monterrei, was once a fortified castle, facing Portugal, and has been recently converted which is where we stayed. We were given a tour of...

We spent two nights here in order to escape the relentless Galician rain on the coast. Magnificent breakfast, comfortable beds, helpful staff whose English easily outranked my faltering Spanish. If you have time, go visit Chaves (in Portugal) and Ourense. Be warned, the swimming pool is icy!

This parador is situated in a relatively simple converted farm house. The setting is quite spectacular. The rooms were comfortable and sensibly planned and the bathroom worked well in every repect, if quite simple. The dinner was delicious and included in the price of the hotel room and, from what we saw of the little town nearby, it's probably the...

A Parador I hadn't visited before and I was pleasantly surprised to find this lovely quite small (for a Parador) hotel perched on a hill overlooking the town of Verin. Some 27 rooms, rustic and comfortable supported by a friendly and helpful staff where nothing was too much trouble for them. Angel on reception deserves special mention as he made...

This hilltop Parador is an oasis of peace and tranquility 3 km outside the market town of Verin. It overlooks the Monterrei valley with Portugal just 20 km to the south. After exploring the mountainous countryside and villages of this corner of Galicia during the day, we returned to the Parador to enjoy delicious cuisine and warm hospitality.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Parador de Verin stands facing the imposing medieval fortress of Monterrei. This traditional Galician country house offers beautiful views of the castle and panoramas of the valley and vineyards. At the hotel, you can take a refreshing dip in the pool, stroll through the pleasant gardens and enjoy exquisite Galician cuisine. This is the perfect place to explore the trails along the valley, discover famous springs like Cabreiroa and Sousas, or visit wineries producing vintages with the Monterrei designation of origin. The Parador is just two kilometers from Verin, the Monterrei district's main town, located in the province of Ourense, close to the Portuguese border. The Tamega River flows through the city. In addition to its springs and Monterrei Castle, it is known for its ancient Carnival celebrations. If you decide to spend a while exploring the fortress of Monterrei, you will discover three walled areas; a castle, of which all that remains is the keep; Santa Maria de Gracia, a Gothic-style church; the Palace of the Counts of Monterrei, which houses a small museum of sacred art; and the former pilgrim hospital, which today provides lodging for pilgrims traveling to Santiago de Compostela. Verin's Carnival festivities have been declared a national tourist attraction. You will be amazed by such entertaining traditions as flour fights, and by others deeply rooted in the local culture, such as El Cigarron, a key figure in the celebrations who dresses in an exquisitely decorated carved wooden mask with cowbells around his waist, lashing locals and visitors alike with a whip. This festival is truly an experience! ... more   less
