Welcome to the site of Dorze Lodge. In the fantastic mountains of the Dorze people close to Arba Minch, we have recently renovated our spectacular lodge. If you stay in Dorze Lodge, then you stay very close to nature and to the local culture. This is the place to come to yourself or in touch with the friendly local people. The lodge is built in a rather rough (and beautiful) environment, and staffed by local people. We have a lot of activities you can do, like beautiful hikes and trekking’s (by yourself or guided). Other things you can do is: visit a local, visit the local school, join the local community in the evening at a campfire with music and dance, or go horseback riding. And we can offer you all kind of tours to different interesting attractions, close bye or up to the Omo valley. Or just lay in a hammock and enjoy the serenity. It’s amazing. We make sure that you will have an unforgettable time. You are very welcome.

I stayed here for a couple of nights with my partner, and we had a lovely time. The location is absolutely breathtaking, and the tukuls are rustic and functional, with a very well placed hammock on the terrace outside. The central restaurant bit is very cosy and, clearly, a lot of thought has gone into the decor. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, and a lot of effort goes into preparing a serving very nice, healthy, local food. There are lots of opportunities to go on walks/ treks around the lodge, wander through villages and wave to the local kids, and to buy local handicrafts. It's not a luxury lodge experience (so don't come expecting luxury and then whine about its absence), but it's truly the best of rural Ethiopian hospitality. Would strongly recommend!

My partner and I stayed in this lodge for one night. We took the bus up from Arba Minch which was pretty straightforward and cheap (50 birr/$1). The bus stop is only a ten minute walk from the lodge when you arrive. We enjoyed the peace and beauty of the area. We found it safe and felt at ease walking around exploring. The accommodation itself is simple; we stayed in a hut for $60 a night which we felt was expensive for what it was. There are also older huts available for a cheaper price. The lodge is currently running as low-cost as possible, due to lack of custom from Covid and the civil war, so there was no hot water for the shower (we expected this before arriving). We were not able to choose what we wanted to eat, but were satisfied with the Ethiopian food we were served for lunch and dinner: injera, bread, shiro, local green spinachy veg, cabbage. They can also do spaghetti and tomato sauce if you do not like Ethiopian food. Breakfast was simple: some ginger tea or coffee, and bread with peanut butter and jam. Stunning views and scenery, but one night there felt enough for us.

Pros:
1. its on top of hill with amazing views.
2. you live in those huts shown in picture
3. beds and pillows are comfortable. This lodge is much cheaper than those in Arbaminch city.
4. weather was nice when I visited. there were nets for mosquitos but it was cool so i didn't have issues with the insects.
5. water and electricity are available.
6. very peaceful and quiet. its like camping in a hut. It is safe.
7. very friendly and honest staff. I had booked 4 days with them but I did not stay for 2 days as I was visiting some tribes. They told me that I have to only pay for nights that I stayed.
8. local made food - not the typical Ethiopian food you eat.
9. guides available to take you around to different tribes and they can arrange the whole tour for visiting surrounding tribes. I visited dorze, hammer, konso, mursi, desyonish and ari tribes. I worked with Mr Wedgers Yonas (+251 91 148 7620) who took me around. good English and has good knowledge about the local customs.
10. commute to this place is easy. it takes ~ 30 minutes, 10 min on paved roads and 20min on unpaved road. They will arrange the ride for $50. I will not make a big deal about roads since the roads in Ethiopia outside the city are bad. if you are going to visit tribes, be prepared for multiple hours on unpaved roads.
11. The rooms are not air conditioned but its pleasant weather, so you dont need them anyway. The temperature here is 4-5 degrees cooler than in Arbaminch city.

We've stayed in the lodge with our family (2 adults, 3 teens) and had one 'hut' with the family. Accomodation is pretty basic (limited shower, electricity with a generator until 2200 etc.) but that adds all to the magic of the very remote and peacefull place high up in the mountains. We travelled during rainy season, but the views were still really like the pictures (or even better). Some local guys are running the lodge, and we did an extensive hike from the lodge through the Dorze villages experiencing the daily live of this tribe. If you are into an adventurous, off the beaten track, accomodation this is your place to be in Dorze.

The Dorze Lodge was simply lovely. It's managed by locals, who were incredibly hospitable. The supper and breakfast were delicious. The little huts are sweet and comfortable. The views are breathtaking... and there was nothing more beautiful than lying in the hammock and listening to the sounds of the people across the valley waft up accompanied by birdsong, while watching the sun set...

We were so lucky to find this little gem on our brief stay in Arba Minch. By chance there was a hut free so we were able to stay for two nights exploring the local area, which is utterly stunning.
The Dorze community were open and welcoming and our brief immersion into their culture was fascinating, aided of course by a great local guide. Views down to Lake Abaya are breathtaking, you really feel on top of the world here; we wished we could have stayed longer and look forward to a future visit hopefully to the Omo Valley.
Tsehy, the owner, is an incredible guy who has clearly worked hard to create a business that really benefits the local people as well as his visitors. It really feels like a true partnership.
We loved this place 🤩❤️

When I saw the previous comment I was expecting a nice place but what a disappointment! The place is lonely, dirty and the facilities are in a very poor conditions. Value for money doesn't worth it. It is too expensive the room and food and drink in the lodge. Only thing is worth is the view.

This place has the views to die for! The whole od Arba Minch is under your feet and you look at it like you are looking at it from an eagle's nest. Rooms are good for one night but for the second there is no hot shower in the village and in the lodge. The staff is lovely ever trying to help. Food is many, electricity is problem (solar) and no internet whatsoever if you need it. Propoerly located next to the Dorze village. Perfect for one night, the remining nights are also ok if you are ready to shower with freezing cold water.

Booked & reserved this property 3 month in advance before the long waited Family vacation. Besides the only reservation been in touch with Yohana(reservation officer in Addis Ababa) & Tsehay(Lodge owner) via e-mail (in total 32e-mails). I have been requesting and asking them all possible questions regarding the things we should bring, caution transportation etc. They mentioned that in case of no water available from the tap they would deliver clean bottled water for my family?! After an absolute confidence that everything will be taken care we traveled to Ethiopia hoping to discover Arba Minch & Dorze community ....
They came to pick us at midday from the Haile Resort 4* in Arba Minch Mr. Tsehay (Owner of the property) showed up with extra 3 guys. I was frankly not expecting anyone besides 1 driver. 1 gentleman is a driver + 1 guide(which i did not request but anyhow was charged 20$)+1 assume is a porter (with a positive note). The condition of the vehicle i should say was far from imagination .... Toyota Hiace with nearly 500.000km on odometer as per the driver :) no need to explain the external details. Thanks to God that mini-bus managed to climb to the top of the mountain with no asphalt and take us back SAFELY!!!
For my surprise Mr. Tsehay before we moved from our Hotel in Arba Mich asked me if i would like to pay for our stay in His Lodge now + for the transportation+if we could decide doing any trips within Dorze community or Omo Valley. Obviously i was not expecting that level of professionalism .... i told him as per booking.com i will be paying at the property & the transfers from Arba Minch should be on COMPLIMENTARY BASIS(it was mentioned in one of the 32e-mails i had with Yohana) and doing excursions we might decide at a very last moment. Then we left .... 30km+ distance took us more than 1.5 hrs ... After reaching the Dolze Lodge we`ve been shown our Family Bungalow with 1 double & 3 single beds which i was aware of + Fantastic view right from our doors ... surprise yet to come ....
after a long roller-coaster style drive kiddos got hungry .... and i asked the local guide who came to pick us up when the buffet style lunch will be served .... and the ANSWER was no lunch & no dinner today. You can order whatever you want to our local Dorze Lady Chefs who will cook for you. Fare enough. We are easy adopting travelers .... We brought a box 45kg of instant food(cup noodles, instant oat porridge etc) which would last simply for 2 weeks.
The moment we went to wash our hand it was an absolute disaster to see the quality of water .... absolutely dark brownish /rust like water (God knows what).... Was it previously communicated that we might experience that level of water?! NO. The water tank outside the dining area needs no comments. the WC next to dining area requires a serious SANITATION.I am 100% sure that the last cleaning in that area was an ages ago.
That was the last drop. i asked the guide to contact Yohana and arrange our return transfer as early as possible. Obviously i cannot risk the comfort and safety of my family. When you run a business there should be a common sense of truthfulness .... not selling the product and hiding the reality ...
after an hour or more the Rambo Minivan showed up and we were ready for another rafting experience all the way down to Arba Minch. I should mention that Tsehay(owner called me) and asked to pay 80$ for the vehicle + 20$ for the guide. I was absolutely happy to pay without any arguments.
Our 1 week stay in Dorze Lodge turned into another a Big lesson that several international phone call followed with more than a 30 e-mails will not guarantee you a great holiday ....
Remarks: First of all this property is not a wheelchair accessible & not recommended for an expecting mothers and small kids. Since we were less lucky to experience their cuisine i cannot comment about the food quality etc.
Have a safe trip.

Response from Lungo-man, Eigenaar at Dorze Lodge
Responded Dec 5, 2018
Hi Dilnur, For sure, we were not the right accommodation for you and your young family. I think we did everything to inform you about what Dorze Lodge is, and what it is not. The staff tried to arrange it extra perfect for you and they were even a bit nervous about getting such a high profile guest for a full week, but unfortunately for you this felt too pushy. Sorry for that. I think basic accommodation in your home town Dubai is different then basic accommodation in a country like Ethiopia. We do hope that you have found a good alternative and had a pleasant stay in the rest of your time in Ethiopia About the water, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. We get our water from a local natural spring. And, sometimes, after heavy rains, there comes a bit sand in the water. This is perfectly safe. There is absolutely no rust or anything dirty in the water. We don’t use any iron in our water system. The water is perfect for showering , washing and flushing toilet. For drinking water we always have bottled water available. This should have been communicated to you by the local staff. We will do this better in the future. The external hired minibus was indeed an old minibus. Like almost all transport in Ethiopia. Except for the high class commercial hotels. It’s a miracle these cars are still running. Ethiopian creativity. We love it. Best regards, Dorze Lodge

Recently we spent 2 weeks in Ethiopia traveling to Omo valley. Our guide, Lungo suggested to stay in the Dorze Lodge during our visit of Dorze villages. He hit a bull's eye! The place is second to none, location absolutely stunning. We had very nice dinner and breakfast, the sunset and sunrise are just spot on! Calm and quiet. We had the chance to meet Tsehai, the owner of the Dorze Lodge who has great plans to upgrade and develop this beautiful lodge. Great place! Thank you Lungo for choosing this place. Thank you Tsehai for your hospitality!

Hello Desire, at the lodge there’s no swimming pool. But 34 km in Arbaminch you can swim in the other hotels like Haile resort, emerald lodge, paradise lodge etc. Dorze lodge is being situated at top hills of the dorze mountain, it’s cold for swimming but wonderful for sports like hiking, bird watching, running, horse riding etc.
