I must admit that I thought the "health retreat" aspect of Split Apple Retreat would be a bit over the top... But that was far from the truth. It is true that the food and activities are focussed on a healthy lifestyle, but nothing is forced (Lee's meditation sessions are optional). Instead you are encouraged to enjoy the wonderful lodge,... More

The Split Apple Retreat is so damn exclusive that it is "not" visible from the street, "not" mentioned on any billboard along the road, "not" large and "not" eye-catching for non-residents but everything a sophisticated traveler is looking for! First of all, I have to start my story by telling you about the most joyful, heartwarming welcome we ever had!... More

There are so many things to say about the Split Apple Retreat and about how Pen and Lee redefine perfection as hosts in this more than idyllic retreat. But let me start by putting it in a very simple way by reusing the words my lovely wife said only a few hours after our arrival. "Outside our own crib I... More

By far the best experience that my wife and I booked during our vacation on the South Island -- can't wait to go back. Lee and Pen have built a special place overlooking Abel Tasman and you would be making a mistake not to book this retreat. Facilities = 10/10, clean and modern room, very beautiful collection of asian art... More

We spent three nights at this absolutely gorgeous resort. It had come highly recommended by our travel agent but we didn't know much about the place. Well, were we in for a beautiful surprise! The owners Lee and Pen welcome you into their 7000 square foot most luxurious home. There are only three guest suites , so the attention one... More

Absolutely perfect; the only complaint is that our stay of four days was too brief. It is hard to compare this establishment with any other top hotel and restaurant, and it is certainly at the very top. If one could imagine the Bristol in Paris or the Gritti in Venice designed and built by a noted Japanese architect, and filled... More

My husband and I stayed at Split Apple Retreat in February. Lee and Pen have created a unique place for the sophisticated traveler; their warmth and caring create a comfortable environment for all. The healthful food, the amazing Asian art collection, the beautiful views, and amazing service make this a very special place. My husband does not usually like places... More

We recently spent 3 nights at the Split Apple Retreat as part of our honeymoon in New Zealand and from the moment we arrived it was just perfect. It's a spectacular part of the world and the retreat itself is just as as amazing. The owner and host Lee goes out of his way to make your stay very special... More

Amazing place. You think you have died and gone to heaven. Pen and Lee are unbelievable, the warmth and attention to detail is palpable from the moment you are greeted, the rooms, views, food, etc. this place should be number one in your bucket list.

My wife and I spent two wonderful days at the Split Apple. I echo every sentiment expressed in these reviews. Lee is a terrific host with a great sense of humor. Pen is a fabulous chef and the quality of the nutritious food is unparalleled. We even threatened to stow Pen away in our bags and take her home with... More
