My husband and I met up at the Split Apple Retreat to have a week of wellness, relaxation, exercise and detox. The experience was above and beyond what we expected. Although the other guests were not on the wellness retreat, the food served was all so healthy and nutritious that we all had the same meals. The meditation was a...

Dear Kate and Alan, Thank you for your kind words. We are so glad to hear that your experience with us was above and beyond what you expected. This is the highest and most valuable feedback we could hope to get from our guests. As you so astutely point out, there is often no difference in the menu for those...

We had a great stay and will be carrying the wonderful memories of Lee's and the staff's hospitality, back home with us! Pen, is a most talented and competent chef. She gets out of her way in preparing deliciously well crafted dishes, that impress and please, thanks to their simplicity and at the same time, sophisticated blend of fresh and...

Dear Maria Rita, On behalf of Chef Pen and the entire staff of Split Apple Retreat I thank you for your words of appreciation. We are most pleased that you loved Chef Pen’s cuisine. Chef Pen is honoured and humbled by the consistent wonderful feedback from guests such as you, as expressed in virtually every Trip Advisor review. This is...

Thank you Pen & Lee - our stay with you last week was certainly one to remember. Your hospitality was outstanding and Pen's food just superb, all very healthy and light. Pen and Lee went out of their way to make my special birthday quite an occasion; they set up a beautiful table on the deck with champagne, a beautiful...

Dear Donna, We thoroughly enjoyed helping make your Birthday a very special occasion, although a great deal of credit for the surprise and planning goes to Mike! We’re delighted that you loved Chef Pen’s unique healthy gourmet food creations and her cookbook. As one guest put it, “food that tastes this good, just can’t be healthy.” But is truly is!...

During September, my wife and I, along with two friends, had a short break at Split Apple Retreat. The Retreat is amazing, nestled on the cliff overlooking the bay. Only 3 stunning suites so it’s never crowded and you receive first class attention from Lee & Penn, complete with beautiful food and wine. A must is the behind the scenes...

Dear Graham, It was a great pleasure hosting you, Anne and your friends at Split Apple. Welcoming returning guests, such as you, is one of Pen and my greatest joys. As you aptly mentioned, we are small in size, but we pay great attention to detail in order to provide our guests with the attention, ambience, healthy-gourmet cuisine, and World-class...

We recently spent two days at Spilt Apple Retreat with Lee and Pen and were captivated by their sublime ability to fuse all of the senses into one complete new whole. All around you is carefully crafted beauty - both inside and outside in the surrounding Abel Tasman Park. Pen's food takes your taste buds on an adventure you'll never...

I must admit that I thought the "health retreat" aspect of Split Apple Retreat would be a bit over the top... But that was far from the truth. It is true that the food and activities are focussed on a healthy lifestyle, but nothing is forced (Lee's meditation sessions are optional). Instead you are encouraged to enjoy the wonderful lodge,...

The Split Apple Retreat is so damn exclusive that it is "not" visible from the street, "not" mentioned on any billboard along the road, "not" large and "not" eye-catching for non-residents but everything a sophisticated traveler is looking for! First of all, I have to start my story by telling you about the most joyful, heartwarming welcome we ever had!...

There are so many things to say about the Split Apple Retreat and about how Pen and Lee redefine perfection as hosts in this more than idyllic retreat. But let me start by putting it in a very simple way by reusing the words my lovely wife said only a few hours after our arrival. "Outside our own crib I...

By far the best experience that my wife and I booked during our vacation on the South Island -- can't wait to go back. Lee and Pen have built a special place overlooking Abel Tasman and you would be making a mistake not to book this retreat. Facilities = 10/10, clean and modern room, very beautiful collection of asian art...

We spent three nights at this absolutely gorgeous resort. It had come highly recommended by our travel agent but we didn't know much about the place. Well, were we in for a beautiful surprise! The owners Lee and Pen welcome you into their 7000 square foot most luxurious home. There are only three guest suites , so the attention one...
