First things first...the food is excellent, bordering on outstanding. The location and hotel are also lovely which makes you think you'd have the complete package. With a couple of tweaks this place could. For starters, the staff need a lesson in welcoming guests. On arrival in the bar, the staff carried on their conversation and didn't acknowledge our presence at... More

I booked a night at the Talbot Hotel, Malton as part of a Christmas present for my husband. I booked for the Tasting dinner menu, bed and breakfast during the Christmas holidays. The room was spacious, with a sizeable comfortable bed and a lovely bathroom. The hotel was cosy and warm, with open fires and everywhere seemed clean. The staff... More

My friends and Me have just spent Christmas at The Talbot Hotel. Just about perfect. Very homely and cosy. The food was superb with menus designed by James Martin . The service was excellent. The staff could not do enough to make your stay more comfortable. Couldn't ask for anything better

Just spent a night at the Talbot for my birthday (23/12). From start to finish it was delightful. I was a bit apprehensive after reading reviews of the restaurant on here but they were so wrong for me. The room was lovely (Room 18). Comfortable bed, spacious enough room, very clean. The bathroom was lovely and clean but nowhere to... More

Beautiful old building in Malton, attentive bar staff, sadly let down by poor food. Brought the family for lunch, the Talbot Burger was I'm afraid a solid mass of grey minced beef, dry and tasting quite unpleasant - it desperately needed either char grilling or relish, the chips (all 12) were quite greasy. We were not asked how we enjoyed... More

We had a night at the hotel for my wife's birthday treat and on arrival were very happy, the hotel was lovely and in beautiful surroundings. The room was excellent. But that was when it all started to become disappointing. We had a light lunch of Welsh Rarebit, which consisted of 2 quarters of a slice of bread with topping,... More

We went for lunch today – four of us, myself, my wife and another couple. We are great fans of James Martin, and were looking forward to good, honest food, well cooked and presented. Initially, we had drinks in the bar, and the barman gave us menus to look at. We assumed that these were for bar food, and that... More

Hubbie and I had lunch here courtesy of an Amazon voucher. The staff were warm and welcoming as we arrived and on seeing the menu the choice was amazing. I chose soup for starters and risotto for mains - hubbie had ham hock terrine followed by pollock. Whilst the portions weren't large, they were so tasty that we had to... More

Very nice hotel with lovely ambiance. Comfortable clean room. Lovely lounge and bar with roaring log fires. Restaurant food was over priced but very good. The Talbot bacon sandwich for breakfast very disappointing, not sure James Martin would want to put his name to that.
