A beautiful setting, lovely rooms, nice food BUT seriously understaffed and quite disorganised. Restaurant very slow, not much chance to give feedback, as the poor staff are running from one place to another. Tried to get a drink at the bar and was left waiting so long we gave up, even though the bar was empty. Tables were too small to put food on, no remote in the room. So much potential but seriously needing more staff.

Stayed in Melville castle Thursday 8th January for one night, we had a deal late check out Bed & Breakfast free drink. never got any information on the drink, check out time etc had to call reception to ask about the drink to only to be charged for it in the morning, eventually got it taken of me the bill. No one manning the bar, had to wait ages for someone to appear. Breakfast was poor, no fruit juice/water any soft drinks at all, toast arrived as soon as we sat down was really cold, very small breakfast, No fruit or cereals on offer. Freezing cold breakfast room, but our main issue was with two drunken guests that checked in at 1am in the room next to us and fought loudly and aggressively until 4am. We were in Edinburgh as our dog was having a big operation at 9am we were so tired because we couldn’t sleep when our neighbours finally fell asleep at 4am we were still tossing and turning at 6am. Called reception twice who told me that they would deal with it, they said yeah, they were like that when checking in??? they never dealt with anything, they said they phoned, they didn’t we could hear every word, said they would knock on the door again they never, exhausted we spoke to reception in the morning who said the manager would contact us! Still waiting!l walls paper thin, Breakfast really poor, never been served hard streaky bacon before? Although Hotel not to blame for noisy guests their lack of dealing with the situation was unacceptable. So disappointed.

We stayed at Melville Castle on New Year's Eve and booked the Junior Suite and the Dinner on N.Y.E. First of all, we were really impressed with the room and the customer service! We ordered some water by calling the bar and they came in within a couple of minutes and the waiters and receptionist were very attentive and helpful. The dinner was one of the best we've had so far in Edinburgh! There were so many courses and the quality of the food was superb. We look forward to our next break there!

The staff were so friendly and accommodating we were given the Castle suite which couldn't have been bettered with a lounge and separate bedroom with a 4 poster bed and a fabulous bathroom with a huge copper bath enough for 8 people! But most of all the food.... Omg it was as good as a Michelin starred restaraunt all prepared by Chris Hobley and his team..... Showing imagination and quality being hand chosen by him from local sourced suppliers and always fresh eventhough it was Christmas. Lastly a special mention for Emma who was ever present and made all guests feel so welcome.
