We've just had our wedding at melville castle and honestly couldn't have wished for a better day. Weve not even left yet, but i had to write a review! The staff are all absolutely incredible and couldn't have done any better for us. They are an absolute credit to the hotel! The bar staff who worked our wedding had to put up with our crazy families and they did so amazingly haha! We felt so relaxed throughout the wedding and it because of the people who were working that day! I'd recommend a wedding at melville castle to absolutely everyone! Thank you for helping making out day so special! The Carrolls
I highly recommend staying in this wonderful castle surrounded by a breathtaking park. staff at the height of the place. Daniel and Mathev went out of their way to pamper us and make us feel our best.
We were supporting a wedding today at Melville Castle Hotel. The day was pleasant enough, the hotel has some cosy nooks to enjoy a drink, and we also enjoyed a tasty dinner served by courteous staff. However, just as we were packing the car to leave, Joe, the coordinator of today's wedding, came running out to remind us that we had still to pay for our dinner. We had actually paid our server about 15 minutes before. Joe, a word of advice - check your facts before accusing customers of theft, especially ones who’ve been working hard to support an event at your venue. This incident at the very end of what was otherwise an enjoyable day left us with a very bad taste in our mouths as we drove off. Absolutely disgraceful, and we don't recommend this place.
This is a cozy place in a nice surrounding. The staff was very friendly. The hotel, however, does not stand up to the pretended four stars. Everything of the interior is worn out, old. The room was spacious and clean. But the furniture, except the beds, was uncomfy. You couldn't really sit at the small desk e.g. The ventilation in the bathroom was not working. The food in the restaurant is ok but not more. The menu lacks some creativity: a steak, a haddock, that's more or less it.
Just had a fantastic stay at Melville Castle. They came to our rescue when an Airbnb booking fell through at the last minute. They couldn't have been more accommodating. Fantastic service, wonderful rooms, great breakfast, beautiful setting and dog friendly on top. Danielle and Matthew must get a special mention as they went above and beyond and helped our family group of 12 to have a wonderful weekend.
This was my fourth castle stay on my trip. Lovely castle tranquil grounds. The only draw back was our room had no windows. The hotel manager went and purchased fans and we got a small one to use . The staff were nice room was well decorated, enjoyed our stay
Nice grounds to walk the dogs, but these are not just for hotel guests. People park in the passing places along the driveway down to the hotel, to exercise their dogs in the grounds. We saw an owl one night in the woods. The hotel was ok, clean and tidy. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was nice too. Juices could have been filled a little quicker but on the whole the breakfast was ok. On sitting outside the hotel in the outside bar/seating area someone decided to fly a drone abod out heads. My dog was petrified by this as it hovered over our heads for a time. I reported this to reception, after having to return to our room, because the dog was so frightened. Apparently after speaking to the manger, anyone can enter the grounds and exercise dogs or use drones as the management only look after the hotel. I felt our privacy was invaded by the drone, as it was around 9pm and most people were in their rooms by this point and probably weren't aware of the drone, whizzing around the hotel taking photos. (These were hotel guests) This did spoil our stay here, as the dog was constantly looking up when we exercised him in the grounds and having a drink the following night, outside, was a no go. He was stressed out by the drone, which had an effect on us too. …
Stayed at the castle with my mum. We loved our room, enjoyed the food and bar, and them experienced some spooky stuff overnight. Slept with light on after having a woman in our room, was freaky but it was okay. Our room smelt like baking after she appeared. Very strange. Beautiful castle though.
I thought it would be a nice wee start to the summer holidays by booking afternoon tea for my young family, at the very place we had our wedding. So I booed for four on Monday. As expected, the setting is absolutely stunning and the ambiance is lovely. However, this is where the niceties end. The food was presented beautifully, but to our disappointment was very bland. Infact, I would go as far as to say it felt/tasted shop bought. The scones were nice, obviously had just been heated up for presentation. As the food was brought out, I remember actually commenting on the scruffiness of the waitress, but was met with that look that only a husband knows when his wife is silently telling him to be quiet! However, the real shock was the clotted cream which had the texture of butter, and the Victoria sponges which were absolutely stale. That’s fine though as we had ate our fill and to be fair, we had purchased on a discount voucher offer. Then yesterday, Tuesday, suddenly and without warning the four of us were utterly floored with food poisoning of some sort. Now I can’t prove that the source was the afternoon tea, but given the timescale and the fact it was the only common denominator in regards to what we’ve all eaten over the 36 hour period, I have no doubt that is where we picked up the bug. Myself and my youngest daughter still haven’t fully recovered and it’s now Wed afternoon. I’m not sure how to report this, or if it’s even worthwhile reporting, but I’m hoping someone from Melville Castle might see this and st very least, give their serving/kitchen staff a gentle nudge in regards to cleanliness and best practice. Food we eat should be safe as possible, and that’s non-negotiable. Thanks.…
Unable to go to the Highlands due to the rail strike. Had just landed in Edinburgh on way to train station when we found out about strike and had to quickly find a hotel for 2 days during a busy weekend. Saw Melville Castle on Booking.com and so glad they had an opening. Front desk, bar and kitchen staff were all friendly and efficient. No interaction with housekeeping but room was well kept and comfortable so good job from them too. Excellent breakfast. Relaxing time in lovely environment with good service.
