Our one night stay at Melville was the perfect start to our trip. The grand entrance and friendly staff were welcoming, our room (which I believe was there basic entry level double) was stunning complete with draped bed, tapestry, antique furniture and original paintings. The bathroom was basic but clean and well appointed. We were travelling with our dog, who was greeted warmly and loved exploring the extensive grounds. We liked that there was a special room for dogs for breakfast right next to the main dining room - made to feel special not excluded. I would definitely stay again.

We had a celebration dinner here. The online menu is not up to date and there were actually no vegetarian/vegan options on the main menu. The pasta dish was served minus the Parmesan. It was very ordinary and is actually close to something we make at home as a quick midweek dinner. The starter was a few tomatoes sold as ‘Heritage tomato salad’. The staff were very nice and the dining room was also a pleasant space. However, we will not be returning as the food was a real disappointment.

Stayed here last minute and got a great deal! Such a quirky characteristic place to stay! Very friendly staff, fabulous food! We had a dog with us and ate in the dog friendly room which to be honest was soulless but that’s the only bad thing I’d say and it wouldn’t put me off staying again. Food was so good. I absolutely loved this place and would stay again without a doubt and recommend to anyone!

What a GORGEOUS place to stay!! My friend and I stayed here in April 2018, and this castle is unbelievable. There’s so much land to walk around as well! The room was beautiful, the breakfast was delicious, and everyone who worked there was so sweet. One of the coolest parts was that on their property they have the tree that David Rizzio planted as a token of his affection for Mary Queen of Scots. What an amazing historical landmark. The only con is that the trip into Edinburgh is about 30 min. So just keep that in mind!! Thank you for an AMAZING STAY!!

This is the first time being back at Melville Castle since we got married last year and it was lovely. We had dinner, B&B and stayed in the castle suite. Fiona remembered us and made sure our stay was perfect. Would reccomend staying at Melville to get away from the business of your day to day life. Dinner and breakfast was also excellent.

Melville Castle is a stunning hotel, the whole place oozes luxury. Our room, a 4 poster was beautifully appointed and the bed was amazingly comfortable, the only thing that let it down for us was the food. Something as basic as fish and chips was very disappointing, and the breakfast which to be fair was tasty was very greasy, having I presume all been fried, and no accompanying toast was offered. Because we had our dog with us we were not in the main restaurant but in a side room, which in itself is acceptable, but for breakfast we felt a lack of service. My husband also found the smokey atmosphere around the main reception area a problem but fortunately our room was off the main stairwell.

This was our second time staying here and sadly will be out last. On our first visit we had to change room due to a noise issue and the room we were given this time wasn't much better. We booked a foodies night away voucher which included dinner and breakfast. Let me say the castle and grounds are lovely and our room was clean and had everything we needed for an overnight stay but that's really were the positive points end. When it came to dinner the restaurant was quite cold, thankfully I had a small jacket on. We had to pick off a reduced menu as it was a special deal and the food we ordered was okay but it was definitely nothing special. I'd say breakfast was the same standard, just okay but I've tasted better. Now when it came to sleep I think we had about two hours max. There was a banging noise in our room pretty much the whole night, we could hear people flushing their toilet all night and then because we were on the ground floor we could hear people speaking outside the window into the early hours. As this was our second time staying here and both times we've had a poor sleep we wouldn't come back again.

Excellent international staff catering for the requirements of an international clientele. Lovely location, large comfortable rooms (super comfortable beds) each with its own character and theme. Substantial grounds that go with the property which is in a scenic location. A series of different walks available. We went to Melville Castle for a significant event and the staff were most accommodating. Food is top class, good hearty breakfast, excellent afternoon teas, likewise evening meals. For Michelle and Isa nothing was too difficult and we were made to feel very welcome. Likewise by Adam, Fiona and Tom and the maintenance personnel. Highly recommended

We stayed at Melville for three nights and had a wonderful stay! The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. There were some ghostly feelings but nothing that kept us up all night! The walks around the ground were lovely and we loved the history element too. We would definitely recommend to others looking for somewhere boutique to stay!

We stayed recently for 2 nights at Melville Castle Hotel. After booking our stay we were a little worried about the reviews however we need not have worried. The castle is beautiful, clean and the staff are amazing. We booked a classic room which was very spacious, huge comfy bed and the shower had more power than my own at home. Complimentary shower products smelt devine!! The Scottish breakfast is a must, delicious, my only criticism would be that it only comes with one sausage and one bacon, my partner wanted that little bit more. The following morning he asked for an additional sausage with his breakfast which the staff were happy to provide. We chose to leave our car at Melville and uber into Edinburgh City centre which cost approx £15 each way which was well worth it to us. Thank you to all staff at Melville, each one of you provided us with a smile and were always very happy to help us and made our stay so wonderful, we will back 😊
