Hotel Írottkő is the only hotel in Kőszeg that is close to the city center and has a wellness department. That's the end of its benefits. The building has not changed since the eighties. Cleanliness is not the facility's forte. The breakfast is fair, but there is no dessert. The staff is nice, except for the reception lady of the wellness department, who is noticeably disturbed by the guests.

We stayed here for a week in early July in the middle of a heat wave. This hotel sits exactly on the City Square facing the main church of the Sacred Heart in the quaint little town of Koszeg, Hungary. It's near the Austrian border. The location is fabulous. You are within steps of the original castle and can learn about how this little town stopped to invasion of the Turks so many centuries ago. Quaint shops and cobble stone streets. The main square is surrounded by coffee shops and restaurants and a few stores and banks. Wonderful!

The hotel is a 3 story, mid-20th century hotel. STaff are friendly once they get to know you, and a couple of them speak English. The lady manager is lovely and will spend some time speaking with you, but you generally have to approach everyone here first.
There is no air conditioning of any type in this hotel. It was soooo incredibly hot and uncomortable in our room, even with the windows wide open (we were on the 2nd floor), that we broke down by day 2 and bought a fan at the local hardward store! They didn't even have a fan for anyone to borrow from the Front Desk. I wonder how the elderly guests made out? The hotel was always full of groups and busses of tourists. Perhaps because they are so popular they don't need to worry about little things like this?

Our room was very small with 2 beds. Mattresses were like futons (typical in many parts of Europe). EAch bed had 1 duvet and a terrible, useless pillow. The bathroom was old but very clean and acceptable. Housekeeping staff were pleasant and our room was always made up nicely for us. We left them a small tip every day.

We ate in the hotel restaraunt a few times. Very good and the price was very reasonable. They also have a nice little coffee shop at the front of the building and you can sit outside and watch the people go by. But it was just as easy to stroll into the Square and eat at the wide variety of restaurants and coffee shops there. Don't forget to go to the Turkish coffee shop just to the right of the front door of this hotel. It is the oldest coffee shop in the town and the decor is reminiscent of the days of its founding by the Turks. And their pastry is fabulous!!

We really cannot say we liked this hotel. It served its purpose for us. However, there are very few hotels in Koszeg and only 1 other on the Square and it was not much better looking than this one.

You cannot get a better location in Koszeg than what Hotel Irottko has - right on Fo Ter, overlooking the cathedral and cafes. The building itself is an ugly Communist style hotel completely out of sync with the beauty and history of Koszeg. Make sure you get a renovated room with a view of the square and a new bathroom. The rooms themselves are a little tired and could do with a refresh, some new mattresses and definitely new pillows. Breakfast is OK for a Hungarian hotel. The price of the rooms are a little too high for what you get (18,500 Forint per night for a double). But they do have a wellness centre and the spa is free - perfect for kids. Parking is also free. However, I would hate to be there when it is hot as there is no air conditioning.

We spent one day in this charming city and stayed in Hotel Irottkő for the night. The hotel locatef in the very downtown. Everything in the city can be reached by foot. The hotel is a bit old fashioned, the rooms are not modern but clean. The bathroom belonging to the room is renowed and clear. Breakfeast and dinner wad fine and delicious. Personal was helpful and polite.

Very pleasant hotel with helpful staff mostly able to speak English. The rooms are arranged over 2 floors looking down to the main reception, which is spacious and airy. Our room view was over the square and directly opposite the church which was lovely. Breakfast was good and there was a large area for eating outside. Due to the heatwave we didn't use the sauna area, the salt sauna looked interesting though. The location of the hotel is ideal. Our room was very hot but luckily a fan was supplied. Getting to the hotel might be difficult unless you had a car, which allows it to remain unspoilt.

Situated in the center of Kőszeg, walking distance from the historical sites of this beautiful city, is rather convenient.
Rooms clean and functional, still the furniture in somewhat poor condition.
Though planed my schedule finally not allowed to experience the wellness center.
Personnel was polite. Breakfast was OK. In the afternoon room was a bit hot, still after a shower I could take a comfortable beauty nap.
WiFi functioning only at a basic level.

Located in the center of town. Everything is clean, staff is friendly and helpful. Furniture and in-room-carpets have seen better days. Some nice antique pieces of furniture in the common areas to look at. The breakfast room has university canteen ambiance at best, food quality at breakfast is mediocre. Rooms are small, but functional.

This hotel is the biggest one in the lovely town of Kőszeg. However, my experiences were mixed: compared to its price, the room was ok but old-fashioned, tv was ancient, warmwater needed some time to "arrive". Breakfast is ordinary. Surcharges are sometimes hard to understand. I don't know... - could be better.

The hotel is convenietly located on the main square of Kőszeg. Built in 1979 and the design still shows off the 80s. We stayed in premium rooms, rooms are dominated by the hard beds leaving limited free space to move around. Bathroom is ok. Make sure to book a room with a view on the square!
Breakfast was as usual but dinners were very-very tasty! Typical Hungarian home cousine from it's best.
Wellness: sauna, infra sauna, jacuzzi, salt room but no pool, no gym.
Parking is available (open air) for 400 Ft / night. Free wifi is available and worked fine.
So this hotel is great as a starting point for the area.

Can I get transport from Vienna Int'l airport to Irott-ko hotel?
Answer from
Koszeg, Hungary
Dear Betty P, You can travel in Koszeg taxi, train or bus. Here is an opportunity: 1. Take a train or a cab to Vienna (Westbf). 2. From Vienna, take the Railjet to Budapest, but GET OFF AT GYŐR. 3. From Győr, get a train or bus to SZOMBATHELY. 4. From Szombathely there's a small train heading to Kőszeg. It may take 5-6 hrs due to changing trains. Best regards, Hotel Írottkő
