We were so lucky to find the Niriida Guest House this summer. We were blessed with gorgeous weather and, more importantly, the exemplary service given to us by our hosts (and owners) Dennis and Dietmar. As others have said, nothing is ever too much trouble for them and they are lovely, sincere guys. They made our trip, with their friendly faces and warmth, as well as their super recommendations (always intuitive and always 'bang on the money'). The location is idyllic, as others have said. It is a wonderful place to kick back and recharge your batteries. We had active days when we were keen to explore but plenty of others when we were just happy to be lazy on the nearby beach at Kommos. I'm sure we were amongst the least active guests at Niriida this year - no walking boots in our suitcases! The design of the accommodation is minimalist, with wonderful clean lines, neutral shades but splashes of vibrant colour. Everything you need is provided and it is all of the highest quality. Kamilari has a decent array of tavernas with wonderful, well-priced food. Moreover, the Cretan people are just so welcoming to their visitors - service always comes with a smile. It really makes you want to return again. This was one of our best holidays in recent years, largely due to our hosts who were a joy and always ready to steer us. This is the last season that Niriida will operate as a B&B: next year it will be available as a three bedroom property to rent in its entirety. Although things won't be the same without Dennis and Dietmar, I would highly recommend the property as these guys have created the perfect holiday 'home from home' for a wonderful break. And even though the guys won't be there in person in the future, I'm sure you'll feel their influence - in everything from the ambience, fixtures and fittings to the helpful and practical information they will surely provide. Highly recommended.

Niriida Guest House is located a top a hill just outside of the charming Cretan town of Kamilari. The owners, Dennis and Dietmar, are delightful hosts and work very hard to make each visitor's stay a truly enjoyable experience. They have the unique ability to immediately sense their guests' likes and dislikes, and make remarkable suggestions on which beaches to visit, the best Taverna for an afternoon break and, of course, the right restaurant for the evening out. These gentlemen are truly amazing hospitality providers. The three units afford privacy and attention to every detail. Modern and clean lodging, with a delightful morning breakfast on the main terrace... all overlooking the beautiful olive groves and mountains beyond. For a true sampling of this quieter side of this Mediterranean jewel known as Crete, I highly recommend a stay at Niriida Guest House

Dennis and Dietmar were the perfect hosts making our second week in Crete fabulous. The guest houses are stunning, beautifully designed and every detail accounted for. The roof top is an especially fantastic feature from which to gaze at the stars at night. Breakfast is a veritable feast from which to kick start the day and both our hosts were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in helping us plan the activities for the rest of the day, be it sights, beaches or restaurants. Everything was absolutely perfect and we couldn't recommend the guest house highly enough.

I usually don't write reviews. But the stay with Dietmar and Dennis was just so absolutely perfect, it was incredible. The place is beautiful, the house is so well designed and the two are honestly the best hosts I have ever met. I hope we'll be back soon. Thank you Dennis and Dietmar for everything, including the wonderful breakfast, the great recommendations and for making us feel so at home!

I don't think my wife and I could possibly think of enough good things to say about our stay at Niriida. Dietmar and Dennis are true experts at their craft. The villas are gorgeous and designed in such a way as to maximize privacy. Every little design detail is totally intuitive and it feels like your every need has already been predicted and planned for. All of the fixtures and the sheets, etc., are of the highest quality. We particularly enjoyed having a bottle of wine on the roof terrace and gazing at the stars/sunset. The breakfasts every morning are totally off the hook gourmet and involve approximately six or so elements that rotate daily. The eggs, cakes, yogurts, and homemade jams were the best we had in Crete, and indeed I don't think I've had better at any time in any place. We particularly appreciated the use of the local fruits and other products every morning. As an example, one morning an element of the breakfast was a sort of version of dakos in which the "bread rusk" was made by Dietmar using local carob flour. Suffice to say the breakfasts are an event unto themselves. Finally, southern Crete is gorgeous and we would have had a wonderful trip perhaps regardless. But our trip would not have been nearly so wonderful without Dietmar and Dennis's very thoughtful recommendations for our daily adventures. These ran the gamut from scenic drives, to secret beaches, to a little taverna in a tiny little hamlet near (or in? I'm not sure) the Amari Valley where we had one of the most enjoyable and incredible meals of our trip for about 19 euros. We felt their recommendations really helped us have a string of incredible and enjoyable experiences that made our vacation. When I say Niriida is perfect I mean this: when we checked out we tried to think of any detail at all with the physical accommodation or service that was not exactly as it should have been or better. But we could think of not one single thing that did not live up to or exceed our expectations. This is an usual feeling. Normally even great hotels have one or two little foibles that could be improved. Not this one. And in this respect, I think Niriida is on the level of some of the fanciest five star hotels we've stayed at in major cities. So in conclusion, this place is an absolute treasure and if you are lucky enough to secure a reservation for next year before their calendar is full (it may be already for all I know), just do it you will not be disappointed.
