The hotel is really old, the decoration, furniture and everything reminds 80's to early 90's. With a first impression the room was clean, not shinning clean just clean. The price was very good.
Worst thing was the smell from the drains or bay, constant unpleasant stench emanating up into the room when the balcony door was open. This got worse late at night and early in the morning so maybe not the best place for an extended stay
I had a sea view with a balcony. A must if staying at this hotel as the rooms are basic to say the least. Paper thin walls. Very small bathrooms but nice products. The room was clean and the ladies who clean them are friendly and hard working.
Breakfast can we eaten outside with views of the harbour. Rolls, cake, cheese, meat, cereals and salad stuff. The coffee is poor and the 'juice' squash. The young man who clears the tables is efficient and takes a pride in doing a good job and is a credit to the hotel. I didn't like the cats and dogs joining me at breakfast, nor the loud group of Americans who were staying there. One spoke very rudely about me, she thought I was Greek. But that's not the hotel's fault.
An old elevator, maximum capacity 2 people for a large hotel.
Tiny and old bathroom. Very small room. The front door clashed with the bathroom door.
I do not recommend it, I would not return
Pillows were flat and stained, towels had lost the whitness.
While they claim to have renovated rooms, we were given extremely old, poorly maintained ones despite visiting during the off-peak season. Shockingly, they charged us €80 for this!
The location is good, and the sea views are nice, but the rooms are utterly unsatisfactory, which is a shame. I can’t even commend the staff, as they deliberately chose to place us in these subpar rooms when renovated ones were clearly available.
But location is by the sea but closest beach is 15 minutes walk away. Hotel has a pool on the top floor from where is amazing view.
Breakfast good, eggs, ham, sausage, yogurt, fruit....
Staff helpful.
Hotel clean as can be because of the conditions of furniture
The location is on the Main Street of Samos town.
The island itself is beautiful with lush greenery on one side of the island and the towering mountains on the other. Pythogorian was the former capital of the island and is lined with tavernas and bars all overlooking bay, where you can watch the pleasure boats coming in and out, or hop on one yourself. There are a few shops up the main street but not too many to spoil the tanquility.
The Ephilinus Tunnel is just above pythogorian but be warned it is like entering a tomb and very narrow once inside, it has a narrow path leading along side a 40ft drop that is covered over by thin wires, definately not for the faint hearted!
Karlovasi is one of the biggest towns on the island and has loads of shops, supermarkets and bars but it wasn't as pictureaque as Samos Town or Pythogoran.
Most of the islands beeches are pebble but there are is a lovely beech at Psillis Amos, approx 6kms from Samos Town, which has lovely soft sand leading right out into the sea. The sea here isnt too deep for quite a way out so is great if you have kids. The views of the Turkish mountains is breathtaking from this beach.
We went on a day trip to Kusadasi in Turkey for the day the cost of which was 42 euros each for the day and what a day. We had so much fun in the bazaar and what bargains we bought - spices, perfume, jewellery, clothes. If you have ever been to the bazaar in Marmaris and thought it was big then double the size in your mind and you have the Kusadasi bazaar. You can go to Ephosos from here also it is only 20 minuites on the bus or a taxi cost around 40 euros - but with bargaining you get this down to 30 euros. Kusadasi itself is rather built up and touristy but its nice for day out.
Hiring a car was the best thing we did. I got lost in side streets, ended up on deserted beeches, drove up mountain sides and scared myself to death on the way down, found beautiful bays with nothing there but a few fishing boats.
All in all we had a great time and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Samos and the Samos Hotel in the future.
