The resort is nicely located , we stayed at the king cottage. The cottage was clean but could need some “love” and upgrades...also awkward I found was the big window facing the street, and people walked by could look into your place if the curtains weren’t closed...so no view if you wanted some privacy... the food in the next located restaurant was only average for the price they charge...it was way better few years ago. I love the Sunshine Coast as its a short getaway for us, but most likely don’t return to the Ruby Lake resort.

Better than pitching a tent. The grounds are certainly uniquely eclectic !! The best things were the silence and the excellent dinner at the attached restaurant La Trattoria. also the bed was comfortable so overall it was OK.

I booked a stay at cabin 10 for a special mother/daughter holiday thinking that for the price we would have a room that reflected that. We love rustic, back to nature type places and have stayed in many over the years. This place was extremely disappointing. Our room was late in being available because they stated there had been a big event the night before and our room was left in a disgusting mess. Mistake number one. Staff should not be informing guests that their room was left in a mess. This already starts to conjure up visions in ones head. Before we even walked into our room there was a trailer parked right outside our patio. The patio had a worn picnic table with no personal touches to make it feel welcoming. Upon entering there were cobwebs on the door and the inside was poorly lighted. The duvet cover on the bed had yellow and red stains. Upon complaining they were immediately changed but the housekeeper said the ones she replaced still had a few stains. Needless to say we weren't excited about crawling into the soft beds. The bathroom tub had mold, window screens open at bottom so bugs could come in and the ceiling fan had so much dust and cobwebs on it that we wouldn't dare turn it on. Yes some things in the room had been renovated in recent years but certainly not quality renovations. We could only imagine what the carpet held in it. Okay for $100 a night one might expect this but lets do a reality check. $250 is a disgrace to charge for a room in this condition and so dated. Rustic can be the best but only when clean and cozy. I made a phone call to the manager to express our disappointment. The assistant manager was on duty and she apologized and offered complimentary water boat rentals (no time to use these as we had dinner booked) and 2 complimentary appetizers (turned out to be only for a side salad or bruschetta) . She offered to have the housekeepers come back to do a deep clean. Now we ask ourselves how a resort that charges this a night, would not be doing a deep clean every time between guests. Dust and cobwebs don't collect overnight. There seems to be no pride in ownership, just a grab for the money at this resort. She did also offer us the opportunity to get our money back but on the sunshine coast in summer, there is no availability and if we could have left, we would have. And so the point would be that due to the popularity of the sunshine coast, the guests keep coming and this resort isn't putting money back into their rooms because I guess they don't have to. My advice is to book far in advance at another resort. We stayed for $50 less the next night at another place that was far superior right on the water. There is a strange, incomplete feel to the whole resort as tho they have tried to become too big without the quality udgrades and personal touches needed for the units they already have.

We spent two nights "glamping" here in June. We had "glamped" before and found it to be a great experience but this time we were disappointed. The setting at Ruby Lake was great as we were able to sit out on our balcony and take in the wildlife. The safari tent and amenities were not what we expected. There were holes in the canvas and in the wooden structure. The chairs were not comfortable, only 2 rough towels were provided (no face cloths or hand towels), the lighting was poor and there were mice in the tent. I must say however, that the on-site restaurant was fabulous.

We came for our first wedding anniversary. We live on the Sunshine Coast and were excited to finally stay here. The Rainforest tent was the most special tent. Tucked away privately with its own outdoor shower and port a loo. This resort is rustic, so be prepared for that environment. But if this is your thing , this place is magical. Turtles , ducks and the forest and you. The friendliest staff and delicious food. Breakfast can be arranged To be delivered to your tent from the local bakery. It was so nice and a great touch. I can’t rave enough about the staff. This family own resort makes you feel special. We rented paddle boards and a canoe, slept in and dined. We ordered strawberries and sparkling water for our arrival. It’s was perfect. It was an amazing weekend in the forest. If you’re looking for a romantic rustic weekend. Book the Rainforest tent. If you have a family , they have family tents too. Fun, funky and friendly. The lake across the road is so warm for swimming and floating. Listen, if you’re looking for 5 star service from a fancy resort , this may not be your thing. But if you’re looking for 5 star service from a rustic camping environment.... this is the place. !!! Thank you to all the staff and the Skookumchuck bakery for making our weened fabulous!! Niki and John
