The lobby is unpretentious and the rooms, though rather old-fashioned, perfectly adequate for our needs. The shower worked well, with plenty of hot water . The beds were just about acceptable.
We enjoyed eating in the hotel's restaurant. We found the Thai food tasty and surprisingly cheap This was true of lunch, dinner and breakfast.
I noted the honesty of the waitress when she discovered that we'd been overcharged on our bill for dinner. The prices were so good, I was not aware of this until she returned with the corrected check-bin.
This typified the staff. We were made to feel very comfortable.
We liked the setting, too. The river is beautiful and a walk along the river bank is worthwhile.
This part of Thailand is not well-known by tourists; it is worth a visit.
first night at front very noisy from 3am with some sort of local radio outside broadcast claimed the hotel in the morning when i requested a room change.
room change granted BUT i clearly booked/required a double bed but had to push 2 singles together.
ditto when changing room, otherwise an extra payment of 500 baht/ £10 needed.no dice from me.
breakfast ok with little choice.
be warned NO SWIMMING POOL as shown on trip advisor ameneties main reason i booked.
cost 2240 baht for nights inc breakfast for TWIN room double 2800 baht
hotel later told me a double room at rack rate was only 1000 baht per night yet still wouldnt give me a double even though i had overpaid on internet booking via trip advisor partner !!
first time this happened in fairness, as internet normally best rates i find.
would try several other hotels before i would return here.
stayed with my thai girlfriend so there were no language hiccups, just fairly incalcitrant front of house staff.
We had looked at other hotels in the city and nothing came close to this hotel. Overall, it seems this was the best hotel in the city. Will definitely come back again if come by Kampeangphet again, and will recommend to anyone visiting the city.
Our overall experience was positive, so I will relate the bad news first. Our only significant complaint in relation to our stay arises from our single evening dining experience in the hotel restaurant; we were very disappointed. Although the quality of the food was, broadly, satisfactory (apart from an undercooked pork chop), the service was not, in that it was horribly and unevenly slow. One of our party had finished his spring roll starter and sweet and sour chicken main course before two of us had been served with any food at all. We felt that a 45 minute wait was unacceptable, as was the fact that a complaint elicited neither apology nor explanation. Our dissatisfaction was aggravated by the fact that the dining area was only half full. Perhaps we were just unlucky on this single occasion; we shall never know, because we shall not be repeating the experience.
The rest of the hotel facilities were fine and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
On a happier note: the hotel is well located, close to the bank of the Ping River (within a minute's walk) and only a couple of hundred yards from a lively night market. There is a 7-Eleven store (24 hour service) also within one minute's walk. The well maintained car park is directly across the road from the hotel front entrance. We had reserved our two rooms in advance (booked direct by phone) and check-in was welcoming and efficient - took about three minutes. We were allocated reasonably spacious accommodation on the fifth floor and we never had to wait more than a minute at the most for the arrival of the lift (elevator). One of our rooms was on the front side of the hotel, the balcony enjoying the promised river view; the other was on the rear side, where the balcony vista is somewhat less attractive. Both rooms had the benefit of a usefully strong free WiFi Internet signal - the reception staff provided the required password immediately upon request. The air conditioning in both rooms functioned well - the electricity supply being governed in the usual way by the presence of the room-key fob in its wall mounted slot.
One of the rooms was furnished with a single king-size bed, the other with a pair of large and comfortable single beds. The bathrooms were well appointed, each having a full size bath tub, and everything in the rooms worked fine including the multichannel cable TV, the refrigerators, hair dryers and coffee making equipment, with plenty of electricity points available. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and well furnished, ample storage space being provided both for clothing and other luggage. Both rooms were made up quietly and unobtrusively on both days of our stay.
All in all, this hotel offers good value for money, especially bearing in mind that the rate is inclusive of a buffet breakfast which was more than adequate - very enjoyable, in fact. We shall be staying there again when we next visit Kamphaeng Phet, although we shall definitely be taking our evening meals elsewhere.
